So happy to finally be playing this game. It's really good! I also like playing it in handheld mode the most and the game looks fantastic imo. playing console level 3D platformers on a handheld system like the switch still feels like a dream
For a port its impressive, the only issue I have with the switch is how pixelated it looks in handheld mode; this wouldn't necessarily be a major problem if a ton of levels in Crash 4 didn't hide boxes off screen, or the many cases boxes are placed meticulously throughout the detailed backgrounds; such as the tires in one of the earlier stages. If you don't know where those boxes are, then I can't honestly tell how you are meant to find them with how fugly the game ends up looking in handheld mode. Aside from that however I am impressed they managed to get it running this smoothly.
I'll test the Switch version tonight as I'm just playing it on PS5 atm and it looks incredible on that. Honestly the fact they managed to get this game to run on the Nintendo Switch at all is an achievement regardless of the compromises that had to be made.
It's still insane they haven't released physical in Europe despite it literally being seen on the crash website, and the fact CTR, N Sane and Spyro all got PAL physical releases.
I play games mainly on PC but i have Crash games on my Switch too because i want the option of playing it outdoors or off the couch/PC desk. Its a given that graphics have to be toned down to match the Switch's capabilities but don't forget that at a much smaller screen size the graphical downgrades are not that jarring and you won't miss the 'missing' dynamic lighting/shadow/particle effects when you are not playing it side by side with your PS5/Xbox/PC.
I've just been looking for good games that seem appropriate on The Switch. So far Animal Crossing definitely one of those games. Mario 3D All Stars, Pokemon Sword, Zelda Breath of the Wild. Got some good games so far for the Switch I just got. This Crash game seems like a good game to add. Maybe even BioShock and the Ninja Gaiden collection supposed to come out in a few months too. Still missing some Metroid, but these are some good games for The Switch it seems. I already own the Crash trilogy(the original 3 and remade ones) on PS3/PS4. Getting 4 on The Switch might be a good idea.
Crash 4 is an excellent game! I got it on PS4 when it came out but I'm sure anyone interested in getting it for Switch would have an equally great time.
One quick note is that the Switch version is $40 (not sure about other regions). That's a full $20 cheaper than the next version available. Maybe Activision knew the cutbacks were going to be a tough pill to swallow for many people so the cheaper price was a way to placate them.

I don't really care that much bout graphics, I mean to me if it run smoothly and bring a good experience then I'm all for it. It definitely feel nostalgic and plus this game being on switch is like a bonus point, I can play it handheld, anywhere and anytime.
Tbh, I was so glad when I saw this mode because I played through N Sane Trilogy for the first time on Switch a few days before Crash 4 released onto Switch... and my god I feel like I’ve been rewarded for all my deaths

Being a very longtime gamer, I just simply remember when basically EVERY Dev had a sadistic streak when making games...partly to pad length in the beginning. It’s all good, I usually play games on hard difficulty to start, but old school games like this you don’t really have to.
@@jeremys7131 I reckon the N64/PS1 area had the difficulty just right, not too easy but not too sadistic, I also hate how modern games tend to hold your hand and give you massive tutorials, I’m glad this game doesn’t do that.

Am I the only one who wants a spin-off of this game following the adventures of Tawna in her own dimension, the so-called 'Tawnaverse'? Hell, they could even just call that hypothetical game Tawnaverse, perhaps even making a spin-off SERIES out of it.
This game is undeniably beautiful in every way and this is the only Crash Bandicoot game that I have ever played I do however own Crash Nitro fuel racing on my switch as well as the original trilogy also the mobile game is amazing

Based on the gameplay here, I would say that this took inspiration from 3D Mario, with the alternating platforms disappearing and re-appearing, for example! :-)
I bought the switch port on day one because I wasn’t able to get this game earlier, my god it’s an amazing game, will most likely become my favourite Crash game after I finish it.
So in terms of hard numbers, what is the resolution? Activision swore on record that the Switch port would be 1080p docked and 720p undocked, but that's clearly not the end result.

If you have any other console, than no. A worse frame rate and load times being basically the same. Get the other versions because the do play better. But if this is your only way to play it, sure. Get it. It is still playable, and the downgrades aren't deal breakers But 60 fps does make the game play so much better

It's harder than the original three games but you have infinite lives, so it's difficulty spikes a lot earlier than normal. I didn't have too much trouble with the trilogy, but I am dying a lot on early levels. The gameplay loop is similar to Celeste, where you are dying to learn the layout of the level and are focusing on getting to each checkpoint.
For casual run then it's pretty easy and fun easier than the N.Sane Trilogy I would say, for 100% or even 106% a world of pain is waiting for you and I mean like NES pain - Ghosts & Goblins, a bunch of LJN, Battletoads that type of pain.
When a game is brought over to another system or PC, usually with changes that aren't significant enough to call it something akin to a remaster or remake.
They did a better job at this than they did with Insane Trilogy. It looks really close to the xbox version. It just looks like it's lacking the resolution...probably 30fps vs 60fps.
the fact that they have tutorial prompts like "jump on the tnt box to start the countdown" is infuriating. Crash 1-3 didnt need that, why would Crash 4 need that?
Because most modern developers think that adults are buying these games for tiny tots, But even when I was a tiny tot, I didn't need those kinds of tutorials! I learned how to beat Super Mario Bros by myself when I was only 5 years old!

Haven't played on my nintendo switch in over a year but now since crash 4 is out I'm back on it !!! Love this game
A game with Richard Horvitz' voice acting is a instant cop for me. He voices Lani Loli (The Blue Mask) btw.
He was also Kaos in Skylanders I believe. He's very talented

I would’ve definitely gone for this version if it had come out with the PS4 version, but now with the PS5 upgrade, I really don’t want to double dip.
This may be weird, I kinda like the reduced frame rate. It reminds me of stop motion animation and I think it looks great on Crash!

ye tho even tho retail is 60 u can easily find a copy of crash 4 on ebay for ps4 or xbox one for 30-35 dollars cuz its a couple months old now.

I like how infinite lives mode is called “Modern Mode”, low key labeling today’s gamers as casuals. Lol.
limited life is useless anyway because all it does is let you restart the entire level when game over which is annoying

TL:DR, the switch port is incredible, and the only way I can describe how it runs so well is black magic incarnate.

Absolutely! You'll miss out on some of the references, but this game is absolutely fine on its own!
