this is how a bike review should be made. i can go look up specs myself. i dont need my reviewer to read a spec sheet to me. bravo guys, loved the vid.
Standing Sprint Intervals: Put it in your highest (hardest) gear and go as hard as you can for ten seconds from a standing start. Then rest for 1 minute. Wash, rinse, repeat 10 times. Warm up for 10 minutes before hand, and cool down after. You won't want to ride again that day. 🙂
One of the best product "review" videos I've seen. Great mix of personal and technical information. The video, shots, edits, and action were also awesome. Great job and keep these coming!
Ignore the haters, it's awesome having a subjective review. When I got my new Emonda it was just a dozen channels listing off specs and approved marketing material for 10 minutes.
Finally a great bike review! Specialized making a great decision to get well-spoken, experienced riders to talk on the aspects you can't get from reading the spec sheet. Great work Jeff. Can't wait for the longer-term review.
I got to be honest we all love cycling videos this is just what I need to get it going the blood I love it. I always watch these before I go out and get my body moving. I love when I always watch one of these, and then put up my heavy playlist I love like Delta Parole and then I just go haaaaard!!!! Tactic hasnt let me down yet.
Great review! I’ve seen probably 20 reviews by the big sites and they all just requote the marketing material / use the stock footage. Having real world use - eg how it feels over a pothole on a downhill / how much confidence does the handling give you is much better to the average rider / racer not on a pro tour team and cuts through the marketing blurb much better
Cool review. Love the colour of that frame too. Weight comparison with your Venge not really apples with with apples though: no pedals on the SL7 when you weighed it and it’s the S-works spec, so its several thousand bucks of lighter wheels/components vs your Venge Pro. Would be interesting to know what the weight difference is with the equivalent S-works Venge.
Great review! One thing I think would be great to add to your videos is the locations where they are shot. You mentioned that you found a road in San Jose region, with low traffic, etc, and it would be nice to share the location, so besides showing good bikes you also share good riding spots in NorCal ;)
After seeing your great review I can see how aero this is. Lovely colour, similar to Oxford Green on my old BMW 540i. Price though is crazy and also the parts. So are there many 2020 Venge's around ?
Loved the format. Two knowledgeable cyclists going at it and showing different shades of the bike... but would say this is more for current Specialized owners (very oriented). Sponsored riders by Specialized, praising the bike to be awesome goes little to sway me on how objective the review is.. but really like the concept. Suggest you stack it up against Cannodale SuperSixEvo Hi-Mod, new Émonda SLR (keeping an USA theme) for the long term review... nice job guys !
i just bought the Sl7 green prism color --Loved it ! have only done 4 rides and i can feel the speed as well as how quick it handles----had the venge vias so this one feels more scrappy....whats the weight of a 44 frame ?? is it 920 grms?
Damn, Jeff. Went from an old Felt with chinese off-brand wheels and parts to a Venge and now a Tarmac SL7. Truly "started from the bottom" and now we're here
best review yet - Brilliant vision of fast riding - the competitors on uTube all blurb out spec's rather than experience. well done. You guys should do all the tests as you are putting the bikes to real life situations
@@5speed735i I think the rule of thumb when being filmed or photographed on a bike is to ALWAYS be seen on the BIG CHAINRING. Otherwise, you'd look like a wimp.
Drat... I've been avoiding all the hype about the new Tarmac... now I want one. Just not enough to pay for it. But a gift would be graciously accepted...
good to see corporate brands seeing the power youtuber channels have now. You got more views than cycling tips and almost as many views as the mega scripted production big s made. Good work!
Still though, my 2019 rim brake Trek Emonda SL6 is lighter even with alloy wheels and ultegra. So... Is this a Tarmac or another weirder Venge? The tarmac used to be a lightweight beauty, the Venge an aero weapon. Now both seem to be the same bike, so I don't really get it. Then again I wouldn't mind owning one... Good to see you reviewing the bike too.
Great that you're getting this opportunity to review it, but where's the disclaimer on the nature of the partnership like you did on your Akaso camera video? Are you getting paid by Specialized for this? Did they have any input on the content prior to you releasing? Does Specialized get special treatment here?
As a cat1 sprinter did you go with the 48/35 front rings? Was that undergeared on the top end for you? Do you think the ride is “harsher” than the sl6?
I like both. ISM is probably better when crouched really low, but I had no reason to switch from the Specialized power saddle which came with the bike.
I ordered one in this same color back in October. It finally came in 2 weeks ago. Going with ENVE wheels and aero bar and SRAM Axs. Conti 5000"s Can't wait for it to be ready!!!
I quite like the evolution..from the video some time ago..where you were saying...you do not need newest shit, look what I am racing on...to ..."specialized gave us a latest Tarmac for review"
When Sean Kelly was racking up an impressive number of top level wins on a flex-a-noodle Vitus 979, I wonder how concerned he was about the current trend for stiffness? I think spaghetti that's been cooked for 10 minutes too long has more stiffness than the 979. One question I do have - where was the review done? I'm in NorCal and looking to get back on the bike and those look like some interesting roads.
Great review guys as usual. I wonder if Specialized licensed that wheel design from HED like Cannondale did for the SystemSix. The SystemSix was the first to do that with the rim being wider than the tire and it is clearly the fastest wheel design out right now. One has to wonder if the Aero bike category will become obsolete with this new wave of UCI limit GC bikes with aero profiles.
Yes indeed..I own both emonda SLR & SL7 s-works tarmac...both are quick, nimble, light, fast, slight aero, etc...I prefer my SL7 tarmac over my emonda SLR..I prefer the shimano 12 speed di2 drive train on my SL7 over the Sram red etap on my emonda..the SL7 is also stiffer and seems slightly faster like it's asking for more and more speed..lol
Hope you can make a video about styrkeprøven in the future.. Its a 540km annual race from Trondheim - Oslo. Would be interesting to see Mikes Bikes represented :)
At first glance it looks like the Allez Sprint but in carbon fiber instead of aluminum. And the top tube appears to be some what sloped. I’m waiting for your final analysis on this bike. PS, is the frame set available for purchase ?
Is it a Varmac or a Tenge? The weight of 15.56lbs sounds good with that Etap setup. But the Tarmac sworks SL6 Disc with CLX50 and Dura Ace DI2 (similar build) weighs 14.74 w/o pedals. I do wonder where the extra weight came from.

the bike looks top notch . also you should do a sprint training video like how do you get so good at sprinting.
Ride hard until you taste metal
I have a couple sprint videos on my channel. I also have some workout videos to help with sprinting.
you get good at sprinting by sprinting

Agree on the vertical compliance. There some clever engineering there. Compared to the Roubaix, the SL7 is only slightly less comfortable.
