I know that this video is rather old, but you should know that the Brymen BM257 is widely available in the USA where it is sold under the Greenlee brand name as the DM510A. I note this so folks in the USA can pick one up if they want one.
I'm in the US and just received a Bryman 869s. I bought it from tme in Poland. Their shipping time was amazingly fast, about 5 days. The initial calibration seemed to be off measuring DC voltages, almost like it had never been calibrated. I found a reference on the web that described how to calibrate it and with a precision 5v source I calibrated the zero and 5v levels. Now it reads within a couple of 10 thousands. Now it's an amazing meter.
I have both the 87V and the Brymen 867s on my workbench and have to say that, IMHO when it comes to electronics work, I prefer the Brymen. Having the dual display is a major plus as it becomes easily noticeable if there's an AC element when measuring DC. It's not as evident with the Fluke and you further have to interface with the meter in order to see the AC component. Then there's the little nuisances like how the Fluke defaults to AC so for DC work, you have to remember to put the measure in DC mode. The Brymen remembers the last setting. Then, of course, is all the additional functionality the Brymen has. Brymen is a great way to go.
No, I have not reviewed the Tekpower TP4000ZC...and it has been suggested before....so, I've just placed an order for one. Thanks for the suggestion. I have done a quick demo of an antenna analyser in a video on a DIY antenna build. I hope to do more when time allows....in my "to do" list ;-)
Your audio is just fine on this video. I am hard of hearing & I use the computer speakers, & the level is quite comfortable with the gain set at about 20-25 %
Hi Mr. Lorton. Will it be possible for You to do an unboxing of the Testo 770-3 clamp meter. I would be very grateful if You could do it. I thank You in avance. I hope to see you soon. Bye.
I know some vloggers that install sound absorbing panels behind the camera to absorb the background and echo, they've panned behind the camera they use with a second camera and you can see these 4x8 foam walls and lights to improve audio & video quality. plus having a stereo microphone (if you're not using one) will add to the sound quality as well. If the sond input is maximized, it will make sound editing MUCH easier. good luck, and keep the video's coming!
Thanks for introducing me to the Brymen multimeter Martin. After watching quite a few TH-cam videos on multimeters (I'm a beginner electronic hobbyist) I ended up buying a Brymen BM869 from www.tme.eu/en/. I took only 4 days until it was delivered. They used DHL for the shipment. Just make sure you add your suburb and postal code. I don't think they have fields for those when you register. Only realised it after I registered but e-mail them the next morning asking them to add the details which they did before shipment.
I had no idea you lived in south africa, lol. I live in US and im having a hard time finding one. I did find the link in your description and happy I did, makes me more at ease that its a reputable website to buy from.
I know this is an old video but if you have a 'Normalize Audio' setting in your editing software this will bring your high peak volume from your music down a bit and the quieter vocals up. Although i think TH-cam maybe be doing this automatically now(this might be in youtube upload settings).
+Pickled Onion Or even a better, a compressor that will dynamically adjust the volume and not just base the volume level of the highest peak in the recording
When I did test without the load resistor it worked fine even when I varied the voltage from the PSU. I 'll do this all again on video to see if I'm missing something.
this multimeter is obtained with the green lee brand the DM860A, but the DM830A is the same as the fluke 87 v with a little more functions these green lee multimeter are excellent nothing to compare to fluke
Thanks for all your feedback. My existing camera does not have a mic input so I hope to upgrade to a camera that does and has better audio control. As for the sound panels....I'd have to move my lab....not on the cards yet ;-)
Can't wait to see that Electronic DC load completed, I really want to build one. Had few ideas but they are based on PWM controller and a big ass mosfet with 2 car light bulbs at 55W, the problem is that you cannot get small loads in this way :(
I would like to know if any IR-viewing equipment can feed a laptop or TV instead of relying on some tiny portable screen. It would probably be cheaper, too, if it has no built-in screen.
Hi please tell the do's and dont's with a multimeter and the safety measures. We came across some blasts in the multimeter by not keeping in proper mode for measuring it.If already covered in some video of your's please let me know or other wise by making some video..
Please accept this constructive criticism. I need a new multimeter and came here to see what your favorites are. Skipping around this video, you are mostly talking about production of your videos, making errors, future video plans, sponsors, etc. etc. All of this should be in a separate video for your subscribers, I don't have time to sit through it all, which makes this video useless to me. Your videos are professional level in terms of recording equipment, editing, lighting etc, but the content needs to be streamlined.
what about maybe getting some of those egg-carton packing foam panels and hanging them behind the camera and off to the side (out of frame) they are relatively cheap for the smaller ones, I checked on Amazon, under 10$ US good luck!
Use a compressor to compress the audio, then a limiter. Your audio and any I/O of audio will remain the same. Yes, I know this video is old from 2012 and its now 2017. But it might help someone new watching or someone in the future of year 2025
Hi Martin, I really appreciate and learn so much from your DMM video reviews! My research (thanks in no small part to you) has pointed me towards the Amprobe AM140A. This looks like a good DMM to me (within my price range) but I can not find any reviews on it. I understand Amprobe was purchased by Fluke a few years back. Do you have any comments on the Amprobe AM140A or similar AM160A. I'm respectfully asking you if you would consider doing a review. Thank you for your time, Roger
Audio is much better. You must have had a bad storm as half way thru the show I could hear the rain clearly. It was not loud enough to effect your audio. For me, I share technical information via Goggle+ (which I have done for your videos). I like Google+ because most of my contacts are of a technical background and provide technical posts not just someone telling me what they had for breakfast. Have a great day, Tom
Just ordered the EEVblog BM235 digital multimeter from down under... The only con is that it was not a Fluke, only have a very basic Fluke from the last century with only two holes for the leads. when you make it see why the mosfets heat up on my speaker thay get hot i do not know y thay do you can run it on 24or12 volts but you will need a flyback out of a crt ok have fun it dose work ok.
how do i post a web link on youtube let me now on that ok have a good one ps if you have to make a video on it it may help alot for me to hear about it.
Though it's hard to be 100% certain, I believe the 869s is the DM-860A, despite the proclamations others have made that the 867s and DM-860A are the same. The main practical difference between the 867s and 869s is the 869 has a VFD function and according to Brymen's website, the feature = "VFD-V and VFD-Hz Measures Fundamental V & Hz of most Variable Frequency Drives". I believe Brymen's product pages for the two meters erroneously lists the VFD function under the 867s as well, but if you download the catalog, the comparo of functions and features clearly shows VFD on 869s only. Since Greenlee is more of an industrial application type of company, VFD function makes sense to have. The user manual for the Greenlee DM-860-A claims to have the same VFD function. That's my best Columbo for you on that.
can you make a plasma speaker if you want to the schematic is on googles image type in plasma speaker and you will see a easily to make schematic it will be in 2d image ok good luck on it
I contacted Brymen in taiwan about why it wasn't widely available and if they would supply them to me for resale but they would not because I am in Denmark and they already have a seller here and they didn't want me to do global sales because that would tread on other distributers' areas. I communicated to them how stupid that was since the danish seller is hidden and only seen is very small circles but the idiots did not respond to logic. thus...nobody buys them. iirc some sell them for 170$
Go to 6:36 for favourite multimeter thoughts. :-) If this comment helped, thumb it up so others find it easily. :-D

I've really learnt a lot from your presentation. At least now I know what to look for when I need to buy a DMM.
Thanks for every video you make on you tube, always useful
Thanks again for your feedback Tom. This month has and will be crazy busy for me so I hope to get Google + sorted in the next few weeks.

Your tutorials are great. Please keep up the great work,
Arthur Coleman I agree Mr. Coleman....very useful stuff....!!
Most of the IR viewing kit these day does have output to a TV or laptop but keep the screen for portability.

Cool idea....but yes, Dave Jones design certainly does well on small loads. Hope to get to the build in about two weeks time.

Hello, you mentioned we can get the Brymen DMM's in South Africa. Where about can I look to find one?
looks like Brymen in the USA is labeled Greenlee, like the Brymen BM-867 is the Greenlee DM-860a
Yes, and 70-80% higher price.
No...perhaps I should ask folks to post a video response....very good idea, I'll suggest that.
Thanks for the post.
Hi Dan, very interesting feedback on Brymen. I certainly don't understand their logic.
What I missing: how fast/slow reacts Brymen in resistance measuring mode compared to others.....;-)
Best regards from Germany
Cool, I'll have the thermal kit on the list soon then.

Yup, thanks, I already auto update twitter and face book when I upload.
Hi could you please assist me in purchasing a brymen 869s multimeter. I cant get a supplier in sa
your website URL is not resolving with my DNS client , why ?... Do you still register it or not ?... update us please , thank you...
I would really like to see some of the Fluke thermal equipment.
I've got two fluke 87-5, you certainly pay for it though...

So what are your thought's on the snap-on EEDM525E made by TPI
OMG! When you showed the Metrix, you captured a big hole just to the right of it. When will you capture an electron? :-)
The audio levels sounded good on my end here.
My GoTo is a Fluke 87. The original 87....

Yeah I've seen his videos, seems good, just wanted a second opinion
do you have a video on people giveing you suggesting on makeing things and projects to make at all by the way
What are the differences between the Brymen BM869 and the Brymen BM869S ?
The Brymen sister is the Greenlee DM 820 DM 830 and DM860.
Have you reviewed the Tekpower TP4000ZC or on the amateur radio side, any antenna analyzers?
Sound seems fine for me ;-)
Yes I hate that varying average volume on tv and media ..there is no standard .
Made me smile! ;-)
Fluke thermal cameras review, for sure!
Check TME for buying
when you make it see why the mosfets heat up on my speaker thay get hot i do not know y thay do you can run it on 24or12 volts but you will need a flyback out of a crt ok have fun it dose work ok.
Use the fluke thermal imaging camera whit the dummy load to see what componement gets the hottest.
love your the move
Thermal camera on the list ;)
Hi Tom, to post a link reference in a comment without it being rejected you need to do it like this: mjlorton(DOT)com.
Cheers, Martin.
I didn't know you were havin audio difficulties; I thought I just couldn't understand Brits or Aussies
Why are all these multimeters the size of a small car?
how do i post a web link on youtube let me now on that ok have a good one ps if you have to make a video on it it may help alot for me to hear about it.
What other model number is the Brymen BM869 sold as? I cannot find it here in the U.S.
Is it a Greenlee part number?

15 minutes? No thank you. Just recommend a meter. Glad I didn't listen to this guy talking about his other videos.
+robot ninja Talks alot about nothing. Came here to learn about meters.
Too many "what have you"(s)!
Too much talkig, too much !
Blah blah blah...
