    About 9-10 years or so ago I wasn't too sure about my career path and I stumbled onto your channel I think I was looking at understanding Ohm's law (could've been something else, maybe a multimeter review) then I saw all the gear you had it was so cool to me, I didn't know what a multimeter was or an oscilloscope was at the time. Long story short I got two degrees and a fantastic job and all this was inspired by what I saw here. Showed my brother your channel and he got into electronics too and he's now designing power management systems.
    Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. You were that spark. Maybe one day I can pay it forward like you did.

    Just wanted to toss my own thanks, appreciation and well-wishes into the pile with all the others. I was just sorta wondering myself at the fact that it's been twelve years since I began operations in a new studio of my own making/ modification, and since it's a recording studio, I've done much of my own electronics repair/ maintenance/ modifications. You've been a tremendous help in all that, and I even have you to thank for my new repair bench setup, for which I chose a Seville Classics UltraHD lighted workbench, as it seems you have as well. Just set it up, and I have to say I love it.
    Anyway, thanks for all your hard work, and I hope you're enjoying the beautiful Southeastern U.S. as much as we.

    Does Dave Jones check his stats every minute, does a bear sh*t in the woods ..... Hell yeah !

      Love Dave's stuff, but his recent video on "Building Wealth" was pretty cringeworthy.

    • @Handlebar-MustDash
      @Handlebar-MustDash 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@trickyrat483 Absolutely, I did too at one time, he did some great content and reviews back in the day and likely still does. Obviously comes down to personal preference of course and Dave is one of the leaders in this field along with Martin (MJLorton) and ElectroBOOM, the Iranian/Canadian guy who always electrocutes himself, very funny guy.
      I can't recall which meter Dave reviewed a few years back but he was calling out the meter for using the exact same design principle as a Fluke meter but on the cheaper meter, he found that design solution to be unacceptable yet on his review of the Fluke meter with the same flimsy mechanism, Dave mentioned nothing of it. The design flaw or weakness was on the internals of the selector switch but I cannot recall exactly what it was. Fluke build fantastic meters without a doubt, safety second to none, but to call out another manufacturer for using a similar design solution was hypocritical. Both were bad. I stopped watching him around then as I felt Dave wears his ars* on his sleeve to coin a phrase.
      Not seen that recent video you mention but I will check it out.
      Discussing his analytics and finances if that is what he was doing is poor form in this current climate particularly when many people have struggled financially with these lockdowns, causing mayhem and resulting in job losses in many cases.
      Martin has always been great and made it clear that electronics are a passion to him and retained his integrity throughout. He makes you feel as though you are on the same journey as him, discovering things together whereas Dave seems to have an ethos of 'Look how much more I know than you'.
      Martin has consistently refused to sell his soul down the river, recommending shoddy equipment is something he absolutely and thankfully will not do but for Dave, I get the impression that everything has a price though I may be wrong.
      Every single rule change on TH-cam that is not in his favour and hit him in his pocket seemingly always results in a 2 hour rant disregarding the fact that his viewers, the vast majority are not TH-cam content makers but electronics engineers both amateur and professional and tune in for that.
      Not sure if Fluke advertise on his Forum or just like the rest of us, he simply understands that Fluke make excellent equipment but I have seen several design flaws even in Fluke meters that just seem to get glossed over by Dave the Rave in his Fluke evangelism. Martin was well ahead of the curve when he began discussing the merits of Brymen Multimeters which in many regards are better than Fluke in the features you get for much less money and greater resistance to high voltage spikes, there is a guy who performs rigorous safety testing on very many meters from the US who's channel name escapes me and Brymen generally surpass Fluke in every metric throughout their range remaining functional at over 10kV on the 800 series meters, something Dave's own meter (the none Brymen model) could not do also. I have a 525s model Brymen, same form factor and features (give or take a couple) as the 800's and a fantastic meter I have had for around 9 years without any problems whatsoever.
      When Dave focuses on what he knows best, his content can be great but prefer Martin's style and honesty myself, and ElectroBOOM's content for the humour and overall silliness at times.
      Have a great day, cheers

    Crystal ageing also tends to reset on orientation change, and yes they are sensitive to voltage drift. Soldering the crystal will cause a step change in drift, so best to use a socket for the crystal, though this also adds in other things like contact noise and more thermal offsets. Best to keep the crystal shock free, in a temperature stable environment, with a well regulated supply. Cascade references, so start with all being stable temperature wise, then use the most stable regulators nearest the oscillator, and let the others provide a more stable supply to them.

    I've been running my SBMS-120 for about 4 years now, first on a 4S and now a 7S LiIon battery pack. It's still going strong. I like that you can set the internal balancing voltages. I have my battery top out at 4.0v/cell and the SBMS will balance to that voltage. Some of the BMS boards I have tried only balance when you hit 4.2v on a given cell.

    The things you mentioned, is the reason why would never have a you tube channel Martin, having spent my entire working life from 15 to 65, in the Radio /TV repair business ,with a hell of a lot of experience, I personally wouldn't to put myself through the situations you have. Shame about the shenanigans YT Creators have to go through these days. Great Scott did an update video last week where he was saying YT was tanking his viewing figures as they didn't want to push "tech. stuff" anymore. From the amount of utter mindless clickbait garbage YT "recommends" to me these days, we can clearly see where their priorities lie. :(

    Thank you for all your videos and your will to still keep up with youtube.
    You are on the same level as Shariar from The Signal Path: extremely detailed and long videos with information we can't find anywhere else.
    Take your videos about the history of timekeeping and GPS disciplined oscillators for example: I loved those, they were informative, interesting and made me wish to know even more, but unfortunately videos like those are for a restricted niche audience, as you said many people just do not sit and watch hours long youtube videos.
    But this is exactly why your channel stands out, just like the signal path: you tell us things that we have no other way of knowing, and we hear them from an expert who did lots of research and studies.
    I really hope you keep producing videos (whenever you feel it) with your usual format, honesty anytime I see you uploaded a video I put you on the TV (like I did for this video), sit on the couch and enjoy your knowledge and explanation.

    Your integrity and openness is part of why I trust your reviews. The other part is the experience you bring and your willingness to correct yourself as you learn. It seems this should not be rare, but in my experience it is, and I appreciate those in which I find this attribute.
    My greatest frustration dealing with certain tech providers is when I report an issue and they respond with something to the effect, "you are wrong, that is not what it does." Perhaps it is a communication problem, but it does not happen universally and is frankly a minority. Yet even then, it makes progress unnecessarily difficult if not impossible.
    As for the spam problem on this platform... There is an open source python project which can be run against a video or a channel and will flag and/or remove (if you own the channel) spam comments. Why a 3rd party is so capable of doing this and the platform is not...
    Congratulations on recognizing the need for a personal change. I look forward to what you share in the future. Best wishes on your journey.

    I think you might have to do a full charge and discharge cycle to fully calibrate the charge control. Because it evaluates the capacity of each battery (or Batteries in //) and it could think that some have a lower capacity.

  • @electrodacus
    @electrodacus 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Parallel batteries are just a very bad idea and done only by those new companies that do not have the expertise to understand that is a bad idea. All large manufacturers like Tesla, LG .... use either series batteries or have DC-AC or DC-DC output on tier individual battery so never parallel batteries.
    Any number of cells can be paralleled since that is in no way different from a single higher capacity cell but it is unsafe to directly parallel batteries made of multiple series cells.
    I still produce the SBMS now as the SBMS0 so separate BMS from charger but since a few weeks ago I run out of stock due to global semiconductor supply issues. There are components that I ordered over a year ago and there are no delvers timelines with some manufacturers extending the supply issue until 2023.
    Yes youtube has changed :)
