It just shows how much losing Gyro, his mentor, his best friend, affected Johnny, who is one of the most selfish and one of the most stoic protagonists, so much that he was crying through the entire battle with Valentine. And this is a series that constantly shows that real men do indeed cry.
Spoilers just in case. And you know whats the best? Its consistent with every protaganist so far, with the exception of Jotaro maybe. Jonathan crying over his father's death, and eventually saying his last goodbye to Erina. Joseph's entire breakdown over Ceasar. Josuke's when Okayasu basically waltzes right out of the afterlife. Giorno cradling Narancia in his arms, Jolyne as Foo departs, and during pretty much any scene where her father is present. Its fucking amazing.

steel ball run is by far the best jojo part out there, apart from stone ocean, which I am waiting to get animated, the adventures and the character developement, the nostalgia from the first time Johnny met his best friend Gyro and learned the power of spin, up to the moment he achieved the ultimate infinite rotation energy, which could bypass even Valentines love train, the friends they made on the way and the turns of events that the story took, the plot twists, the unexpected decisions of the characters is what makes steel ball run so great. I could never see myself forgetting this part, even at old age, it will always live in my mind

in my opinion the boy dying even after Gyro got amnesty was a great touch it really highlighted the theme of fate and the whole ball hitting either side of the new ideology
You can’t control the ball over the net, the boy was doomed to die young. Even if the actions of Gyro are rendered useless in that regard, the very beauty of his journey is that through him, on the other side of the globe, people that would have died, didn’t. Of course he wouldn’t know that the boy died anyway at the end, but I think the attempt at pushing the ball to one side was not meant to actually happen, as Gyro says, you’ll never know, fate will tell. The journey itself was what he wanted to accomplish most of all, and if he comes in on top, then better the satisfaction, but he found his at the end anyway
I just finished part 7 yesterday this part is such a masterpiece and this scene is just one of my favorite scenes in all of anime and manga this was an amazing edit
