  • Sharing the top 3 sexist comments I got last week, some more mean comments other ladies got and examples of mean comments especially women in the mountain biking world face. Also, I share how I react to them, why I've started to enjoy some of them and how to take hate and bullying (and sexism) less personally.
This is the instagram post I mention in this episode:

I've been watching your coaching video's for a few months. I watch other coaching video's as well. YOU are a TEACHER. You break it down and make it easier to understand which is necessary for learning. Often these days people label others. This is UNHEATHLY for us as people. That's all we ARE PEOPLE! Ignore the ignorance and KEEP TEACHING. I wish I could ride half as good as You. I'll continue to watch you and continue to learn. THANK YOU ROXY!

Thank you so much for your inspiring words. As a woman mountain biker who also works in a male dominated field, I have run up against so many male egos and sexism. Your insight and advise is spot on.

This was a great podcast, thank you.
I would like to say that I've been involed in physical sports, hobbies, and occupations my entire life. Everything from rock climbing, mountain biking, track and field, and martial arts, to metalworking, welding, factory work, cabinetry, logging, etc. There are obviously differences in physical limits between men and women, esp when it comes to peak strength and explosive fast twitch movement, but my experience is that women always make up that difference with technical skill and experience. If you pit two elite athletes against each other at the top of thier game the men tend to win but in the real practical world there's just a point where strength advantages don't help you anymore. I've also noticed that when men start to get exhausted they tend to want to just hit harder, or obsorb more of the abuse and try to just hold on and force or muscle thier way through the pain. When women start to get exhausted they tend to default to thier training and techniques and they tend to rely more on thier strengths and just breathe through the pains and struggles. Men are not better at sports, they are different and they approach problems differently. I've lost just as many races against women as I've won, and I've never once felt like I had any significant advantages or disadvantages in those races. I, as a normal non professional athlete, might win a sprint straight up a hill, but on a dynamic trail with lots of turns and difficult features I have very little, if any, advantages.

I’m a Vietnam Veteran Marine Sargent and the bravest people I know are three women friends whom I’ve known for years. Ignore the fools, they have chosen the easy path in life.

As someone older who doesn’t dress AT ALL provocatively and who isn’t particularly “pretty” I’ve been shocked at how cool and supportive the dude’s out on the trails have been. Maybe I’ve just been lucky or it’s the difference between actual people putting themselves out there vrs the couch surfers who maybe fear they won’t measure up. Bike shop personnel on the other hand always leave me a bit baffled tho. You would think women’s money isn’t green here in The States. It’s just ridiculous. It’s great that you are at the point where you are not taking negative comments personally. It isn’t anyone’s responsibility to appease those who feel threatened or weak who act out by projecting it on to others.

Roxy i ran into an incredible amount of gifted women in the sport when i first started amateur racing . i was always blown away by their abilities ! and the best part of all; most became my friends .and i really do believe those suckers are jealous .

hey, your videos are great, I have learned more from watching and listening to you than pretty much anyone else. Easily one of the best MTB coaches online! It's sad that there are so many nuts and creeps out there but you have a great attitude. Respect.

For me, you are the greatest MTB teacher on TH-cam, you are the only person that I trust to give advice for mtb skills. You discribe the process in such a way that its easy for me to apply. Keep up the great work!

I loved this episode! Isabeau Cordurier (a top enduro racer) has had stage times that would put her on the podium in the men’s races, so sometimes women can equal the men in sports.

Thanks! In which race was that? In all the races I researched the top women were always in the middle and mostly last range of the men's times.

My mum always said if have nothing good to say keep quiet! I,m a man and love to watch the women’s DH over the mens as I can learn more because it is easier to see the body position on rough parts of the track and cornering. Every day is a school day thank for sharing.😊

Hi liebe Roxy. Unglaublich welchen Hass und Frust die Leute in sich tragen! Extrem traurig. Wenn die Leute nur ansatzweise deinen wundervollen und fröhlichen Charakter kennen würden, dann würden sie sich selber hassen. To all the haters: stop your useless comments and get your lives and brains in order.
