      Actually one eye closed is a compliment. They say. I trust you to close my eye to you but I keep my other eye on the surroundings.

    From what I understand the tail base is a major trigger point & should b respected. It seems that forcing the tail base issue just makes them b suspicious longer.

      Nope! Well partly lol. It’s commonly thought to be that. but since it is a trigger point, then knowing you’re not going to hurt it increases the chances of taming. You can find that tip everywhere, not just from me.

      I get that but plz don't fall n2 the trap of 'everybody is doing it, so it must b rite' n ur life. This thinking has caused many great things to stall out progression wise. I have a feeling u could befriend an ig without triggering it repeatedly & likely go farther faster. Not from my experience with igs but with other animals I have fostered or kept. I think stronger bonds form when the befriending doesn't go against the species natural inclinations. Kinda like an iron fist forms blind obedience but kindness & patience form loyalty & love.

    What if my iguana closes his eyes with his mouth open? So he does close his eyes but his mouth is open for a little bit, then he closes it?

    Mine took a while to chill, but giving her food every time I was done holding her helped, now she just accepts me as the tree that feeds her lol, does random hate the colour red too?

    Watch holding the tail while he is stressed it could trigger a tail drop and no one wants that. Good video

      @@Wickedreptiles thats great! Hopefully your iguna makes it strong and healthy. Mine passed away a couple of months ago. He died from escaping my room and my dog attacked him. Since then i got a bearded dragon. Good luck on your own!

      Iguanas (most specias) don't drop there tail, as they have no regrowing tail ability

    Thanks I just caught an albino one it's kind of fully gold and it eyes are red so I think its an albino and am gonna try to tame him and keep him as a pet
    It's about the same size as the one in this video

    When a iguana closes both eyes they do this to reduce stimuli and shut everything out.

    Nice video beautiful iguana to I got my first iguana wen he was about 8 weeks old an it literally took 2 an half years to pet him he was so so mean but I never gave up on him. I would stand by his cage an talk very soft to him every day I did this an now I can hold him but sometimes he still opens his mouth but nothing at all like he used tone.

    My iguana is Similar to Rango she is a female red iguana whenever she lets me hold her she tends to try to bite me We do have a harness for her but she did try to run but I caught her

      Hmmm, just try the methods in the video. Try petting her for a couple of weeks and see if the aggression has qent away, if not, then contact me again

      Yes! Try waiting a while until he gets used to your hand before trying to tame.

    I have a iguana about a year old maybe alittle bigger. Not sure, have had him for about 2 months and I can’t do anything, a lot of people say to pick him up, angry or not, and slot of people also say give him time, he’ll come up to you when he’s ready to be picked up.

      I usually say the same. I say wait. But in your case try both. Since hes showing no interest in your hand, maybe try to gently pet him a time or two daily until he gets ready to get in your hand

    So had my red iguana for about a month an has this thing he where I can go in and grab him just fine and I think all is good but he will sit an just hit me with his tail do you think its an thing attitude or early signs of an aggressive reptile

    The only time my iguana was aggressive is when she saw a dog I took home bcz he was homeless and there for I took the dog for shelter other than that she not aggressive with humans only with dogs she territorial with other lizards but does not attack ppl or stuff. Only when she seeds dogs

    Hey. I have a savannah monitor (juvenile) probably a bit younger than your iguana. It acts the same way as your lizard when I hold it. My sav also hisses and runs when I try taking it out of the cage. Do u think this will work with a sav?

      It should. Savs tend to be more tame over time. Keep doing this method often and it should hopefully work. If not let me know and i can get in contact with you personally.

    I can't even get my eguana to get on my hand and she is so spoiled!!! She tries to tail whip but at this age it doesn't hurt.

    Mine does the same thing, I think it’s cute when it does that. But I make it calm I talk to it, I spend more time with it. I take care of it the normal way as I should

      My blue iguana used to do that. All I did was I start taking him out everyday when he was sleep because that was the only time he lets me carry him. Then I start trying to hold him in the daytime and he start letting me.

      @@bagzin8600 I have a blue iguana and when he starts running off I try to trap him in a corner and grab him. Even though it makes him a little scared, he calms down once he’s out of the cage. Just watch out for that tail, even when they’re little they hurt!

      Yes ppl have lost fingers they have super sharp teeth that’s why it’s so important to work with them..

      Jennifer Eddy right, especially when the iguana is larger. When they’re babies I couldn’t imagine it would be anymore pain then a small cat or dog bite, but in the future they can take fingers off and leave pretty gnarly gashes in places.

      Yeah it ain’t too bad as a baby but when fully grown I definitely would hate to be on the end of that bad.. I have 2 that I work with none stop and have 2 tegus so I always have to make sure I’m working with them so that never happens but with big lizards no matter how much you work with them and how nice you get them that’s still always a chance but you no that.. but yours is a handsome boy

      I would suggest not trying then, do frequent cage cleanings and make sure it gets used to your hand. If it’s aggressive/defensive against your hand then it might be best to wait!!

    in order for your iguana not to be scared of you you have to hold it for at least 5 to 10 minutes a day for it to interact with u

      Hahaha. I wish it was this easy. You need to hold it for 2-3 hours a day. Maybe if you hold it for 5-10 minutes for the next 100 years it’ll be fine though!

    I just adopted a baby iguana about 3 days ago, how long should I wait before handling him? some have told me wait about 2 weeks and others have said start right away. I believe he is a male about a year old and the rescue said he is pretty nice but he is still kind of scared and skiddish.

      Always wait at least 2 weeks. Let them adapt to their enclosure before handling. Whoever told you to start right away is wrong! Hope these tips help! Good luck with him!!!

      Dont go over the head. Hands out in front, slowly reach under him to pick him up. If hes not having it or being defensive, let him calm down a while and try again. If you absolutely need to get him out try to make it quick and calm.

      Yes! That’s normal. If he’s still scared of you or flighty I wouldn’t recommend touching or holding. Just let him get used to your hand in cage cleanings or pickups!

      Not just bad advice but super unhealthy and stressful to the lizard. Closing the eyes is not them relaxed and falling asleep its like when your upset mom said yes but dad said no so you run to your room an shut the door to block out the world around you because you HATE IT !
