This game really did a better job at showing why the Vorts aren't monsters. In the original you just come across some non aggressive ones, but I think there wasn't much explanation as to why they are like that.

It was shocking and disgusting that the Alien Controllers are forcing them to do their dirty work, and it further proves that the Vortigaunts are just misunderstood. Its so cruel and sad to see. But overall, you people at Crowbar Collective did such phenomenal work in doing a source remaster of Half-Life, and so does the awesome music for both the Black Mesa and Xen story arcs. You guys deserve your place to be one of the best mod turned indie developers out here, and that's an achievement you'll hold dear. 😎👍
Upon seeing the alien grunt beating one of the three in the first area I couldn't stomach the idea of hurting them let alone killing one, even when when forced to fight me I avoided killing them. Only the alien controllers
What I enjoyed is the combination of this track with mind-scrambling audio effects as the Controllers are trying to get into your brain. Truly great experience. Thank you.
I had the same bug and took it a similar way at first; Controllers trying to access your electronics the same way they access vortigaunt implants or whatever. I think it would be a genuinely good addition if it was implemented authentically but turned down. Maybe add a little chromatic aberration too, to show the HEV suit is on the fritz.
Agreed, that would be really authentic, and scary as well. I nearly jumped when heard this at the first time, the sounds were so screeching they felt like a computer virus voiced by a synthesizer. Shame it is just a glitch. Maybe a mod will appear to add these effects to the game.
I've been playing Black Mesa since 2017. Not very long ago it became my favorite game, and it changed my life. I have since had 200 hours in game, almost monthly playthroughs (lately bimonthly), and to listen to these songs all the time, having memorized each one. This new batch is some of the best to come, certainly the most cinematic (a welcome change from the old soundtrack). It has brought me to tears, and I am so glad to have a new series of songs to memorize.
I legit cried when I heard the Vorts crying and acting all frightened. I felt so guilty for killing so many of them before, even though I had no choice. They really hammered home the whole "the Vorts are enslaved, they don't want to fight you" element in this remake. I didn't kill any of them for the rest of the game and swore to free the Vorts and try to atone for my sins against their people.
Wow so everything that got sent to Earth were either beings enslaved by those brain alliens, or innocent creatures that have no ideea whats happening, like the headcrabs or the eye dogs.

This track got me by surprise on my first playthrough, its a shame the game crashed a lot of times thanks to a corrupted save file but once I got it running right it got my blood pumping to hit every Crossbow dart I had
When the Controllers came and took control of the Vortigaunts, I went my way to destroy every single Controller and not hurt a single Vortigaunt. The revolver is an amazing weapon to deal with those Controllers.

Imagine being a slave and this Dude with a Crowbar from another dimension shows up and obliterates your opressors. No wonder Freeman was later regarded as a Holyman by the Vortigaunts. He is like an agressive version of Jesus to them. I always pictured Gordon to be totally angry at this point. Black Mesa did a great job to further drive this plot point which was absent from the original game.
I feel a little bad that I've skipped this fight on all but one of my playthroughs, just because it means I'm also skipping this track. But I also don't want any vortigaunts to get hurt, so I guess sacrifices must be made.
@@rx-0gundam393 There's one vortigaunt that always dies when the controllers attack, whether you kill any vorts yourself or not. You can see another vortigaunt weeping over its body once the fight's over. That's why I always skip this fight (by piling up boxes to reach a window to the snack pod room); so that one vort doesn't have to die.
I love how this part gave better clarity on why the vortigants are good guys in Half-Life 2.

I like how Black Mesa expands on all things that couldn't be properly done in HL1 because of the limitations of the time
Black Mesa does a better job at communicating plot points than HL1 overall.

I'm fairly certain that there will be an achievement where you have to beat Interloper without killing any Vortigaunts.
I honestly tried to do that myself and I think so far I have succeeded.

what made you love the game so much?
I'm not sure exactly. I love the details and how they play out, often visually. It's just my favorite game for reasons that I can't quite explain

Oh, you didn't have to. If you killed the controllers linked to the vorts, those vorts will go back to being peaceful and cower in fear

Interesting detail I noticed is that this one of the few Xen pieces that doesn't have vocals in it. I feel like it was intentional.
