    Very nicely put! Duty itself is not the issue, but how the characters themselves go about it. A lot of things could have been avoided if they simply chose more carefully or without their biases, but if that were the case, we wouldn't have the story we have.

    The real villain of House of the Dragon is whoever styled young Laena's wig in the early episodes. An SNL skit should not have better styling than what it's spoofing. At least adult Laena and the other Velaryons look good.
    Also not really sure where to put this, but since you're wigged out about having to defend Sir Criston Cole I will say that I begrudgingly find him hot. He needs to be dragon roasted expeditiously and his sex scenes with Alicent exist only to test my faith in humanity. Simmering resentment aside however, I do have to live with the shame that I like looking at him. This fandom makes monsters of us all.

    The "villain"" for me kinda are the writers? I don't know how to explain it, but I just feel how much they try to " bias " our pov. My main issue is that they don't own up to have a true villain in a way?

    They say it's team black vs. team green, implicitly saying that both sides have their " shortcoming' but they put two wrongs that are clearly unbalanced. Whose team are you on? The block where rhaenyra stage her husband's death or her rap*ist brother ?".
    Obviously, If, had to choose like you, I am team black, but I can't stop this nagging feeling that the writers are being too obvious with the evil side of team green and too lenient with team black which makes me "annoy" to choose team black ? Like when they made aegon a rap*ist my reaction was "of course they made him one…"

    Alicent was a child bride. When viserys said to a 15 years old alicent "do not speak of our talk with rhaenyra, she would not understand" I had shivers. And yet the way they depicted him as a "peaceful, loving husband and father? He called rhaenyra his only child and not once did the writers thought that it would be useful to show how such statement/actions can have an impact on his other children and the team green vs team black narrative they are pushing ?
    Aegon who was the son viserys wanted so much suddenly reduce to nothing?
    Aemond lost an eye by his cousin's hand? But they do not focus on that at all. Rhaenys decided that fleeing with her dragon was worth the life of thousand of innocents ? Daemon murdered his first wife, married a child as the second and choked the third when he realized she was the queen and he was the consort? Lucerys took the eye of his cousin, but they do not show how it affected him?
    But not once do they focus on those points that are for me very important moments in the show and in the life of the characters and would help the narrative and marketing choice of team black vs team green.

    • @angellover02171
      @angellover02171 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The main cause of the dance was Otto Hightower, and he did his best to get between Viserys, Daemon, Rhaenyra, Corlys, and Rhaenys. Also, if Viserys waited to have a child with Laena, that child would have been to young to be king. Even if everything was fine it would have e pushed issues down the line.

Otto will take R's then D's said if he has to choose between them. So R's will have if we presume ( that she is still friends with Alicent. ) backing of her husbands house and house Hightower could get House Tyrell.
      If she married someone powerful from 5 great houses and promised marriage alliances with her children.

    If your logical argument is bound to DUTY - YOU MUST ACCEPT THAT ALICENT IS THE VILLAIN OF THE STORY! (Not yelling I use caps for emphasis.)
    When a woman marries, HER ALLEGIANCE MUST CHANGE TO HER HUSBAND - AND IN THIS CASE - THE KING OF THE REALM; WHY IS SHE STILL WEARING GREEN?
    The episode where Otto
    Hightower has the princess followed, ABSOLUTELY SHOULD HAVE BEEN THE NIGHT HE'S LIFE ENDED - THAT'S UNDENIABLE. He is fortunate that his daughter is the queen of the realm, but that's where the buck should have ended with Alicent; because her husband is a dragon and the king of the realm.
    Alicent indeed goes on a journey where she finds out that the princess has lied to her, but by the end of the episode she comes into the wedding in a green dress. ALICENT HAS NO RIGHT IN MARRIAGE OR AS A SERVANT OF THE KING TO EVER THINK SHE CAN HAVE DOUBLE ALLEGIANCE TO HER HOUSE AND TO THE HOUSE OF THE DRAGON AT THE SAME TIME!
    She can desire that her children be the ones to be the king's heirs, but any situation where a king has multiple wives and he chooses the heir usually has the same results of a woman wanting her children to be heir (I'm thinking of the movie Prince Caspian now.)
    But the very fact that Alicent is still wearing green openly, lets you know she's out of her place as her husband's wife; HER LITERAL VOWS STATE THAT SHE WILL HOLD HIS SECRETS! So the fact that she finds out that the princess is lying to her, and then decides that she should help her family - no darling, SHE IS DUTY BOUND TO HER HUSBAND AND HIS FAMILY; ALICENT IS THE VILLAIN! Her family and her whole line is going to pair dearly for her getting out of her place, and not obeying her duty to her husband and his family.

    • @ChroniclesofNoria
      @ChroniclesofNoria  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks for confirming that the caps was for emphasis. Cuz I was legit the 50cents meme being all like "what did I do?" 😭😭😂.
      Oh her family does pay dearly for her not stepping out and not fulfilling her duty to her husband. Which is why I said at the end of the video that duty has its multiplicities. In marrying the king, she fulfilled her duty to her father and her father's family. But that also meant that, her duty to the king wasn't absolutely as it would always be torn with the duty that brought her to their marital bed. It's like with Margaery in ASOIAF/GOT. She might have married Tommen, but she still had loyalty and duty to House Tyrell. It's a fucked up thing that their system and society pushes.
      And yes. I am 100% behind "Otto Hightower should have lost his head that very night". Unfortunately, Viserys throughout the entire show keeps failing in his duty as king cuz he holds on to his duty as father and husband to varying degrees, and it's why he really is a most ineffective liege.
      Duty really does punish them all eventually for not realizing that some duty trumps others, but goads them into thinking that all duty is equal and the same.
      I find it utterly fascinating really 😀😀. Thanks for the comment ☺

    I don't support Rhaenyra for 4 reasons: 1) being a monarch is an entitlement, not a human right. So no real injustice was done to her. 2) Both her AND Aegon had valid claims. Because their father never bothered to create a written law for inheritance rights that would secure Rhaenyra's claim over Aegon. 3) Her father the king wanted her to be Queen after him based on nothing but his words. That's Absolute Morancy. It's the most tyrannical system of government in history. 4) Rhaenyra was completely self-serving and never gave a damn about the rights of other women. She just saw herself as the exception. She even mocked Rhaenys for not being special enough for men to accept as Queen and claimed that she is.

    • @blurose6348
      @blurose6348 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I heavily disagree with the first part. Mostly regarding how it applies to Book!Rhaenyra. Book Rhaenyra was eight when she lost her mother and became heir. Especially your quote about how “no injustice was done to her”.
      In the books, Viserys is a little bit less accommodating to her. Her marriage to Laenor was arranged by the council despite the rumors. And he threatened her that if she did not relent to it he will disinherit her. And yes, he still made no precedent, married alicent, and impregnated Aemma young at thirteen causing the miscarriages and eventual death that all this stupid mess (relevant in the show and something maesters warned him not to do).
      Alicent and her had a great step mother daughter relationship. Until Alicent herself had her own children and dropped Rhaenyra in favor of her own children due to the succession crisis. Say what you want about this being the inevitable. But getting pitted against your half sibling at an age as young as ten is not a healthy environment for any child.
      Her sworn protector Criston Cole, whom she first encountered at a tourney at seven (when he was likely 16-20). Was implied to be a massive creep who turned on her when she rejected his advances: Ser Criston protects the princess from her enemies, but who protects the princess from Ser Criston?
      -Alicent Hightower to the court of Viserys I Targaryen
      Daemon was the usual creep he was in the show. Who brought her to brothels and maintained inappropriate relations with her all throughout. Along with Harwin, who was around the same age as Daemon.
      Essentially, the core tragedy and importance of her young life was that she was failed by every trusted adult around her. To say no “injustice” was done to her is a heavy understatement considering the lack of thought when it comes to her childhood. It’s no excuse for the things she does during her adulthood. But saying she went through no significant female prejudice or possible manipulation due to her status as princess is a bad way to look at this.
      As for the “entitlement”. Being a monarch is based on exclusive entitlement yes. But that means this criticism towards the nature of position can be levied for every Targaryen monarch and Westerosi lord. Rhaenyra’s flaw as Queen isn’t that she is “entitled”. It’s that she is impulsive and short sighted. A quality that influenced her ability to rule out of all monarchs. Not necessarily her status as princess. I’m tired of the discussion of Rhaenyra’s entitlement leaning up to this way instead of observing why she is actually a bad ruler not “nepobaby no. 1”.
      And for your fourth point. Yes, Rhaenyra is no girl’s girl. And she undermined the Massey daughter’s claims despite them being women who could be heirs. A major reason why I don’t support her (or Aegon for the matter). However, pertaining to your argument exclusively to Rhaenys. Rhaenys bitterly bit at Rhaenyra regarding her position as heir and took a jab at her being a cupbearer (a coveted position indeed but a demoted one unbefitting an heir who needs to attend the council; observe and actively participate to learn rather than being used as cannon fodder for posion). Out of jaded anger as an older adult who went through the same experience. And Rhaenyra just snapped out of anger. Not saying it was the right decision to go that far but Rhaenys was being rude herself.
