I just found this video! Hoping you still reply to comments on it all these years later… what are the colours that you used? I love that colour scheme (!!) but on my tiny screen some of the colours are looking like the same colour but in different shades, and I feel like I got it wrong 🙈🙈
I love your imagination and the designs you came up with. I have been researching polymer clay recently and the reason some broke was that the clay needs to be conditioned, (folded on its self about 15 to 20 times) this makes the ingredients in the clay start to work and makes it stronger. I also have seen polymer clay artists back their creations with another piece of clay, helping with the strength and durability of their creations. I just thought I would like to help, so I hope this was helpful for your future projects with polymer clay. Well done for all your effort and sharing this with us, you are an inspiration, keep up the good work.
I wouldn’t recommend using items that you use for food with polymer clay!! I understand it’s convenient but polymer clay isn’t necessarily food safe. It isn’t toxic, it’s just not recommended to use with items that come in contact with food. also if you plan on sealing it or making it shiny, DO NOT USE CLEAR NAIL POLISH. it will eat away at the clay and leave it sticky! I’m still figuring out what sealers I like. but there’s sculpey gloss glaze (which has mixed opinions), triple thick, water-based polyurethane, or UV resin. just don’t do clear nail polish! conditioning is very important too! If you don’t work the clay out well before you use it, it could crack or become brittle after curing. There is also such thing as overworking the clay! sometimes clay is too hard or way too soft, and there are techniques to help with both out there! based off of my experiences, Craft Smart is known for not being the best quality polymer clay, it can be super brittle even as raw clay, and in my experience it isn’t the most sturdy after being baked. I honestly wouldn’t recommend it, even to beginners. But some people are able to find use for it, so I wouldn’t completely ditch it if it’s what you can afford. I just personally haven’t had the best experiences with it! Sculpey III is a really popular brand for beginners, it can be soft and easy to work with, though it’s not always the strongest after baking. Mixing it with a another stronger brand (Premo for example. you can absolutely mix different brands! However you may need to change temperature and baking time. I always sort of average it out if I mix clays with different temperatures.) can strengthen it though! sometimes this brand can be so soft that it’s sticky, but it can also have harder colors too. Every brand is like this, but some are generally consistent in their working ability. take into account that your climate can affect it too, warmer climates can cause your clay to be softer and stickier, and colder climates can make your clay brittle and tougher to work with. Premo is my personal favorite. It isn’t too soft or too hard to work with (most of the time! I find that most black clays in the more expensive brands are extremely crumbly at first before conditioning) and it always comes out very sturdy. This is one of the brands I’d recommend if you plan to sell your creations. As long as you condition it properly and don’t underbake it! Fimo is another great one, but I find that their clays can be really hard and brittle. There are always exceptions to this though!! Fimo has some beautiful opal clays with different glitters in them, and they have white translucent which is my favorite thing to add just for a matte translucent touch. But they have wonderful clays in their Effects line. Kato Polyclay is best suited and made to hold really fine details. I find that the texture and smell are unlike any of the other clays I’ve used. The smell is very plastic-like and can be off-putting. The white can be too soft. I still have a huge block of black kato that is impossible to use. It makes my hands raw. a lot of professional sculptors use this brand for large scale, but it has been wonderfully sturdy and strong for me after baking. Your clay won’t burn if you’re baking at the right temp, even if it’s in the oven for an hour or more. It bakes at a low temperature. sometimes your oven isn’t correct in reading it’s own temperature, so if it’s a hobby you pick up, an oven thermometer is honestly necessary. The highest temperature I know of for baking polymer clay is 275. I wouldn’t ever bake at a higher temperature unless directed. burnt clay can let off small amounts of harmful fumes and could be dangerous to humans or pets. anyway if you read this entire thing, congrats and I hope it was helpful and not too confusing!! I’ve been sculpting for eight years, doing all kinds of different things with polymer clay. I hope this can help someone who may be interested in sculpting! This is all based off of my experience!

How do you push the clay out of the molds without damaging the clay? I keep pushing too hard and getting a finger or nail print on them and have a tough time smoothing it out.
Use a needle and go around the clay. As in go between the clay and the mold, then it comes out. the needle gets the clay unstuck from the mold you are using. After, you can easily fix the sides with your fingers.
Hi Lindsay Lo :) Thank you so much for providing such a detailed video. I have one question, I bought cheap amazon clay attempting to make earrings-- the earrings baked but the earring itself came out very oily? Hi. How many minutes should I bake it? Thank you
Hey! If you look on the back of your clay it should tell you! I found that it was different for every kind I’ve used!
When they bake do they come out glossy? Is there something we can put to make them look glossy?
Mine were matte, but I’m sure there are many different glosses you could add to make them glossy!
How do you push the clay out of the molds without damaging the clay? I keep pushing too hard and getting a finger or nail print on them and have a tough time smoothing it out.
Shoot! I didn’t use a mold for mine so I don’t have any experience with that! Sounds frustrating though, clay can be so hard!
