    In this video, I’m going to talk about the benefits of vitamin D as well as symptoms of vitamin D deficiency. In certain studies, Americans have been found to be the #1 population in vitamin D deficiency.
    Some of the main symptoms of vitamin D deficiency are a weakened immune system, candida or bacterial overgrowth, emotional ups and downs, hormone imbalance, trouble putting on muscle or losing weight, weakened bones or teeth, cancer, heart disease, or diabetes. Vitamin D supports having a healthy immune response, digestive health, hormone balance, and more.
    The biggest causes of vitamin D deficiency are not getting enough sunlight, certain chemicals from plastic bottles (BPA), and toxicity. Try to get outside every day for about 20-30 minutes of natural sunlight.
    Certain foods that are sources of vitamin D are wild caught fish, raw fermented milk, mushrooms, and eggs. However, there are small amounts in the food you eat.
    For a good supplement, I would recommend a high-quality vitamin D supplement. You don’t want to take vitamin D2, but you do want to take vitamin D3. For supplementation, take about 2000-5000 IUs a day. However, if you have a severe deficiency, then for 1-2 months, you may take 5000 IUs twice daily. Lastly, you want to take your vitamin D3 with some form of fat like coconut oil or avocado to help absorption in your body.

    I have been suffering for 5 years! My doctor told me I was just fat and that I needed to lose weight but I could barely moved I had pain everywhere in my body, dizzy spells, nausea, fatigue, headache, and brain fog. I became depressed and even suicidal. Yesterday I found out that my vitamin d levels are at an 8. I have been so sick! I will start taking vitamin d and I pray I will get my health back.

    I was so sick from my vitamin D deficiency that my doctor did all this blood work and we couldn't figure out what it was.. Finally my doctor called a psychologist (they thought I was depressed but I know my own body and I wasn't) and thankfully he recommended that we test my vitamin D.. Thank god he did because it was less than half of what it was supposed to be. I'm finally back up to a healthy level but my doctor still recommended that I continue taking 5,000 units a day because I'm no where near to much.

      You shouldn't take a "weekly" dose of Vitamin D3, you're far better off taking a daily dose of 10,000IU per day. Mega doses on a weekly basis don't do very much. You should also take it with Vitamin K2, around 180mcg for every 5,000IU of Vitamin D3.

I had found a Dr. Who recognized the deficiencies and gave me B12 shots as well as supplements for my vitamin D and Anemia issues, but she retired after her third child and I haven't found another Dr like her that really listens to me and addresses my Vegetarian diet. I agree! The average recommendations are too low, it was not until I swithced to 5000 iu (with oils) I saw drastic improvement. You want your levels to be in the higher and not lower range of normal, for sure.

    • @moderaterevolution504
      @moderaterevolution504 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@naominaomi6508 The RDA of 400 is likely if someone isnt already deficient just to maintain a proper amount. Its definitely not for those who have a deficiency. Also "normal" is a score of 30 or higher from a regular doctor. Endocrinologists want you to be inbetween 40 and 60.

    • @naominaomi6508
      @naominaomi6508 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@moderaterevolution504 I used to be around 8 ng, and was treated with very high dosage from endocrinolog. I got my levels up to 50 ng, and then was treated with calcium for several months. Too many doctors forget this important factor, that with a deficiency, we are automatically deficient in calcium. Body must have sufficient amounts of vitamin d for calcium to be absorbed. No doctor has ever told me this, only the endicronlogist.
      Unfortunetely my levels dropped back to low levels over the years, and I had docs telling me my levels were fine (20 ng, considered to be just within normal range for many docs where I live).
      We also have to fight getting docs to take tests as the "test is too expensive". We are adviced to take supplements; 10 - 20 mcg. It is ridiculous.
      I think if a person is naturally higher in vitamin d, can absorb it well from sunlight and has access to sun big parts of the year, 400 IU could be just fine. But that is not the case for many.

I also constantly felt freezing cold due to vitamin D deficiency. After prescribed high dosages of Vitamin D and going out in the sun for 45 minutes a day (even with sunscreen), these symptoms have greatly diminished. Also, I am not sure if there is sufficient research to back this up, but taking TURMERIC (curcumin) with many of my vitamins has greatly helped my health. Most times, nature is the nurture!

  • @bryangl1
    @bryangl1 3 ปีที่แล้ว +24

    Vitamin D2 and Vitamin D3 both convert to the same active form. The difference is that D2 breaks down quickly in the system whereas D3 remains very much longer. But your advice on the dosage of Vtramin D is absolutely correct, unlike some other TH-cam doctors. Also note that a function of Vit D is to convert calcium into strengthening bones. But in the elderly it deposits calcium on blood vessel linings. To correct this and have the calcium go toward bone strength, Vitamin K2 will correct the problem.

    • @bryangl1
      @bryangl1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@MattSamson83 Hi Matt. You need to be careful with high doses, as if high enough, there may be a risk of causing problems. I know directly that 10,000 IU of D3 is safe (although unnecessary, unless you have an extraordinary demand on D3 in your system). I can't advise if there are potential issues with your D2 dose, but it's probably OK. Remember, I'm not a doctor, but have the formal training to give intelligent, informed and unbiased comments. You should consider that while taking doses higher than the commonly recommended ones (which are usually minimum recommended dosage) there is both no point in taking too much over the most effective dose, because it's a wasted effort as you are gaining no extra benefit, and also the unused extra quantity may possibly head you toward unwanted peripheral issues. The problem is, with many vitamins, there can be disagreement over minimum effective dose/most useful and effective dose/maximum safe dose i.e., the level above which unwanted/potentially harmful side effects may occur. So, while I think you are OK, ir's unlikely you need that much of either, and tread warily with high doses. As with many things, you approach a point where "more ain't necessarily better".
