This was very refreshing (the glass-breaker rant). And the video brought back two memories. One, setting up the 10mm poly for my garden in Rockhampton. And Two, I used to buy those purpose-made glass-breaker/seatbelt cutter tools that mounted on a door pillar or wherever you reckon is a good spot. The moulded clamp held the tool really well and the glass hammer and the belt cutter were tools that really worked, because they weren't half-size add-ons to another tool.

Most of the high price is markup. They are actually reasonably priced at the dealer costs. Then vendors map tax is added. Many of the vendors have requested that map be raised more.

    • @tacticalcenter8658

@@herstal54s yea I can agree with that. These vendors dont even inspect the knives before shipping them, yet they keep asking for map pricing increases for profits. It's insane. I want a way to buy from the manufacturer without map markup, or as small a markup as possible. But yea at least spyderco build knives with better heat treatments and a few of the models use water cooled sharpening. Not to mention most of them are designed for users vs gimmicks like a fair amount of Benchmades.

@@tacticalcenter8658 I like both brands but Spyderco did itself in for with Shaman pricing with no material changes, just from TH-cam reviews/Instagram/reddit popularity (jmo). I’ve used the glass breaker on the back of my 917 many time for extrication. Yes I do have many other tools at my disposal. But It’s always in my gear and can be accessed quickly, plus it’s easy to control over penetration into the passenger compartment of a vehicle. So you don’t risk smacking meemaw in the dome with a halligan spike.

Very true, and I’ve always thought it to be beneficial when a tool has multi purposes. One tool that does more than one assignment, means having to bring a lot less tools and wasting time at the truck grabbing appliances. A lot of people that don’t want the glass breaker have never used it for actual real world application i.e a vehicle extrication or child/animal suffering a heat related emergency in a closed car.

The bailout is ment to be a bugout for first responders and military who use glass breakers semi frequently. I think it works as a good full sized back up knife for first responders/Military because of its light weight and thin profile. If you hate the glass breaker on the bailout, I suggest getting a bugout. The glass breaker is a great tool to have on your knife as a back up for your dedicated tools. I love my bailout for that reason, it’s a good back up to my Letherman raptor.

I had an omega spring fail in my bugout, and I dont know how it happened, it just felt extra weak when I pulled it out after carrying it all day, then my knife was shutting weird and somehow the blade cut through the spring... • @sqeeye3102
      @sqeeye3102 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I very much doubt the omega spring was in such a position that the blade could have cut through unless already broken. There just isn't enough room for the the spring to move into that position. I had an omega spring in my right side just snap in half from fatigue and no matter how much I used the knife both pieces stayed in place because they just had no where to go in between the frame and the scale. BM just uses terrible springs for the axis lock. I ended up getting aftermarket springs like you did but I had to bend them since they were too strong to replicate the feel of the old ones.

I use glass breakers on my knives, not to free people or myself from a car roll over as I think it’s not a tool for that, but I do use them.. sometimes for breaking glass, sometimes for breaking other things. I personally think they’re useful.
Lmao but I love your videos man keep it up please

It is nice. We’ve been using one of those foolish glass top electrics. Finally brought gas to the house so we’ll hopefully get something sweet like that.

I removed my glass breaker too and ground that Tanto into a drop point and it magically became what the Bugout should have always been 😂

I look forward to every video you put out. I’m not really subscribed to any other channels like yours. Would you recommend any other cooking channels.
But really. Does anyone else recommend any other knife channels? Thanks for all the non knife related content as well. 👍🏼

Hey Pete, @ 6:02, I assume you are cutting the stump of some tasty broccoli to throw it away? If that's so, I just wanted to let you know that you can eat the stump just like you can eat the rest of the vegetable, you don't have to throw it away. Of course, only if you want to. But yeah, it tastes literally the same as the rest, just a bit crunchier :)

So now, months later, do you still love the bailout? Because I love the bailout. And im rocking the 3v grivory version. It has reigned Supreme in my pocket over the last 12 months, near exclusively, dethroning manix2 in s110v.

Knowing how much you hate ladders I have a feeling that the glass breaker is not coming off that roof anytime soon.

Why the big fuss, could not care less if it was there or not. I'll use glassbreakers to cut tape on boxes just quicker easier and doesnt get the blade sticky

    • @ForeverUnknowing

Exactly this. Also, it makes a nice non-lethal impact tool. It's only useless if you only look at it as a glassbreaker.

You want to know what's weird, why do so many OTFs come with a glassbreaker? It just seems like the one type of knife to not try that with in close quarters is the one that might send a blade shooting out in the other direction back at you. You see it from Microtech, Hogue, M&P, HK, etc. It seems so strangely uncalled for.

  • @nunyabusiness8538

i think microtech puts a glass breaker on their knives as a legal thing..maybe in case of some court case it could be considered a glass breaker rather than a knife. i have no idea but that’s my theory. in the same way brass knuckles are sold as “paper weights” cuz of some little nibs

After watching Road Warrior, Fury Road, and Razorback in a single go, which are really just documentaries about Australia, I can confirm that Pete knows what he's talking about. Glass breakers are stupid.
