Wow dude! I don't think I've ever seen a breakdown and tutorial like that. Covering catchy riff, chords, theory, and style. And making something so complicated almost seem easy. And I've been playing, teaching, and performing for years. Thanks so much Danny! You rock!
Hey Danny, hearing you play at the 2:30 mark gave me me think that you should definitely do a cover of Mariya Takeuchi - Plastic Love, you got that same rhythmic pattern
Dude you’ve gotten so good! I remember watching all your videos a few years ago when you first started covering the Polyphia stuff, your tone and cleanliness have evolved so nicely. Keep it up man!!
now when you simplified everything and all came down to the specified list of steps I started realizing that i just dont have imagination to come up with a melody :D
I feel that. Melodies are so difficult. There seems to be a lot of processes for fleshing out a song once you’ve established a great melody, but not as much regarding writing melodies. To me, melody writing feels like the most human, and least automatable part of the process. I do find singing to be the most useful for me melody wise though.
The ability to explain something very complicated in terms that even an idiot like me understands it … that is a sign of true understanding and mastery of a topic. And now I need to stand up, get my hat to lift it before Mr. Danny Yau. This was truly inspiring and helpful.
Tim said he thought of the Euphoria riff while he was getting a haircut, so he stopped his haircut right there and hummed it on his phone so he didn't forget it
Amazing lesson. So simple in its theory and idea but the application is something I’ll be working on for a while lol! Never thought to play rhythm and think like a drummer before! Great advice - subbed 👏
You have just inspired me enormously! Thank you for explaining with and without music theory ! :) Now im off to experiment with different progressions and melodies and come up with some groovy melodies. And try not to sound like polyphia. i thought your songs sounded quite original! Rock on 🤘! :)
This just further explains, when tim said "most of my riffs are chord melody focused" or something appon those lines in his breaking down a riff series
Now I found new techniques that can improve my guitar playing just need to get my guitar and practice more and more everyday again cause I think it's time to get back to the one that saves me from depression
It’s easier to find and whip up a random melody than full on cohesive chord progression. That way your melody isn’t restricted to your starting set of chords.
Question The list of 4 chord loops I can use: The numbers 1 3 2 5 mean (E min7 , G, F#/D, and B7??) I have no idea. I think number 1 means root chord? Im trying to learn your song here. The Root chord is E minor. Fascinated, I love you added Dmin7 and G7 within E minor chord progression? Sounds great, I can definitely use that.
How to write a riff like Polyphia: just remember “JBD” (Just Be Danny)

Polyphia uses variations of the IV - vi and i VI v VI V a lot. Also e minor/g major or b minor/d major scale for a lot of harmonics.
That full riff at the end is beautiful! I wish You to get featured with Tim and Polyphia one day : )

Just wow.. the way you play makes me enjoy music in another way

Absolutely precious content. "The most important life skill (yes it exists) is to see things the way they are." Tks for sharing your wisdom, sir!
Wow your tone got even better
Hey Danny, hearing you play at the 2:30 mark gave me me think that you should definitely do a cover of Mariya Takeuchi - Plastic Love, you got that same rhythmic pattern
Honestly that part reminded me of Something about us by Daft Punk
This is one of the most insightful and concise tutorials I’ve ever seen in my life.
DAAAAMNN! High-key fire! Release it!
This was solid. To not only write in vein of Polyphia esque. But just general composition, this was super helpful!
Dude you’ve gotten so good! I remember watching all your videos a few years ago when you first started covering the Polyphia stuff, your tone and cleanliness have evolved so nicely. Keep it up man!!

Wow, that melody is fucking amazing. You should do a full song

Ichika Nito drawing in the back, Tim on the front.. this is channel is on another level!

ngl this was a LOT more helpful than the 'how to write a riff' series
I like you, you're an example of self-learning based on incredibles DIY tips
The drummer part is really interesting, never thought about it like that
i can hear all these great riffs in my head by i cant play good enough to make them fast enough before i forget. One day ill do it. One day.

Wow. Very nice approach! Not only on copying Polyphias style, but also on how to make it your own. Big thanks!
Wow ! Thank you very much ! You're a genius !
Awesome I love the concepts! Intuitive and simple while maintaining elegance
Love the tutorial!!! its short and simple🔥
That last step shook my brain up
and then as many harmonics as you can possibly use to break it up and you’re good to go
Thanks for sharing! That was really cool
I've seen Tim break down his method, and although your approach is different it's way easier to digest. Really loved this video!
Finally, you confessed the top secret.
Thank you for your service sir
Great tutorial man, the 'drumming' part was something I didn't consider and I'll surely try it out; thank you!

As someone with those same initials, I had to do a double take when you mentioned it in the video lmao
The Tim head is brilliant hahahah
Hey what kind of effects are you using on your guitar, love the tone

1:12 I did something wrong, I did this and added multi finger tapping and suddenly I sounded like Ichika Nito but I wanted Tim Henson

Only psychopaths start with melody first!! It´s like putting the milk before the cereal!!
It’s easier to find and whip up a random melody than full on cohesive chord progression.

@@GuitarHands I mean I know music theory so for me it´s easier to find a good chord progression so I always start with that
