Well if you have never read fantasy I would start with the chronicles of Narnia, by C.S. Lewis, Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling, or the Hobbit by J.R.R Tolkien
As much as it gets overrated by its fanatical fanbase the Harry Potter books are a great starting point on account of just how easy they are to read. Im not a fast reader and I got through its longest book (800 pages) in just a week and that was while juggling it with my uni course and my social hobbies. But if you want something more adult then try the First Law Trilogy, it has some of the most interesting characters Ive ever read and it has a great sense of sardonic humour that dosent interfere with the dark tone of the books. If you want a standalone maybe try Tigana.
My mom loves a good fantasy story, but she still hates the word "magic," especially if it's in the context of reality. Not that she hates magical powers or magical things in general; it's just that the very word "magic," in her opinion, is such an irresponsible word used by people who try to con or scheme their way through life. She likes words like "power" or "energy."
I’m wondering what your reasoning is behind claiming that people who read mostly just classics don’t know the definition of “good literature.” There is an obvious difference between literary fiction as it is commonly described and most fantasy novels. Most classics are classified as literary fiction and most fantasy novels are classified as, well, fantasy. By definition a reader of “literary fiction” (annoying as the term may be) is equipped to know what qualifies good literature, much the way a fantasy reader can know what qualifies good fantasy.
You basically illustrated what it was like getting English literature degree. Like we had utopias and distopias and a bunch of utter nonsense, but "fantasy" genre was not even mentioned ONCE. And the most hilarious is that a lot of 'classics' would be categorized as fantasy by our modern standards.
I want to read good fiction or fantasy book but don't know from where to start ,the only fiction or fantasy book I read was Germino Stallion and Goosebumps so I would really appreciate some recommendations from Veterans.

Hey there I'm a new subscriber and you are funny p.s have you read the books written Rick Riordan
Thank you! I read Percy Jackson back in the day. But that is the only Rick Riordan I've read
@@miketravelsnowhere6557 ok and he's also written Heroes of Olympus and Trials of Apollo and Kane Chronicles and Magnus Chase and The Gods of Asgard.
This was accurate before TV Game of Thrones. Then… these people is silent, and irrelevant
They were tricked into thinking game of thrones was fantasy for people who hate fantasy, and did for fantasy what watchmen did for comics, when in reality it was just part of a subgenre people didn’t know existed before the show came out.
Ugh people who say things like this make me so angry
I'm the one who doesn't read fantasy 🤣
🤣🤣 I’m an older brother and I love books!!
So true
"Fantasy books are all the same." middle school girls
"So are romances." middle school boys
I had to watch this video twice because I only realized by the end that the text on your chest changed every cut.
Hey a suggestion read "Berserk" it's a Japanese comic/manga.
Cool, thanks for the recommendation!
@@miketravelsnowhere6557 yeah you will really like Berserk it's a dark fantasy. As a novel reader you are already familiar with dark fantasies so you will have a great time reading it and like you don't have to imagine the world, creatures and other things they are already present there, the whole manga medium is great.
One more recommendation - Monster it's of course a manga.
I think your sketches would improve a lot if the editing was tighter, just far fewer moments of silence would improve the pacing.
Thanks for the tip!
Very accurate :)
He is the guy who probably doesn't realize.... That Mistborn is also kind of a spy thriller mixed with a darker fantasy world.
(Also before anyone replies... please no spoilers... I didn't finish the first book yet.)
I'm reading the Mistborn series (& Brandon Sanderson) for the first time, too!
Am about 1/2 way through book one.
Really enjoying his writing style!
Joe Abercrombie books are my next to try 👍
@@ladyfox6705 Yeah Mistborn is my first Brando Sando experience. It's pretty good.
I am so lucky that my entire family are fantasy and sci-fi nerds 🧝♂️
you're super funny n humorous you will be hyped one day
Serious question: why do you guys like fantasy? And what are some good beginner books?
The hobbit is where I started it might work for you.
So ppl i wanna get into fantasy but the genre is overwhelming
Some recs?
"Oh, okay, 'Lord of the Rings'"
(Pulls out what appears to be a flip phone and starts quickly tapping random buttons) 😅🤣😂😹😆😅🤣😂
“How can you take the story seriously if it has nonsense like that?”
Simple, it’s this funny little human concept called fun.
The Dark Tower series are decent too
I've heard a lot of good things about the Dark Tower series. I might have to read that series when I get through my backlog
Don’t tell these people Star Wars is basically just fantasy.
"Time-traveling space elves" loool
Would like to read a book with these elves
My mom loves a good fantasy story, but she still hates the word "magic," especially if it's in the context of reality. Not that she hates magical powers or magical things in general; it's just that the very word "magic," in her opinion, is such an irresponsible word used by people who try to con or scheme their way through life. She likes words like "power" or "energy."
In this special case your brother is right... Fr, it's the most none-of-good-qualities book I've ever read, and i've read a lot
Why are both characters looking towards the right-hand side, and not towards each other?
Good catch! :)
that’s my mom but with science fiction
Grand Teton on his shirt literally means great b00b in French 😂
lol I did not know that. Makes you wonder why they named a National Park that. :)
Why even care what other people read?
Close minded people are the worst.
Unfortunately they're the majority
This is literally my dad except he doesn’t read but he doesn’t like the movies
lol
I want to read good fiction or fantasy book but don't know from where to start ,the only fiction or fantasy book I read was Germino Stallion and Goosebumps so I would really appreciate some recommendations from Veterans.
Wow, ya have siblings that actually read? Im the only reader in the family. It is lonely.
Exsqueeze me, the witcher has INTERDIMENSIONAL ELVES?!?!?!?
Commenting 4 The algorhythm.
