    "A team that had guys on it like BEVACQUA..." The way he just spits the name "Bevacqua" out is absolutely glorious.

    A classic, if profane moment in baseball commentary and analysis. Mr. Lasorda was always entertaining and quotable, if you were willing to find ways around the off-color stuff. He orchestrates, starting slowly, and engaging in the classic crescendo of rhetorical geniuses. You go, Mr. Lasorda, you go.

    That one was a classic this is why Tommy Lasorda was and still is a boss! I had the pleasure of meeting him at a Dodger game and people think he is arrogant or brash. The guy was so nice and you could feel his passion he talked to me for several innings(we were sitting very close to one another) about the Dodgers, who he think's will do well, who he thinks will do poor. He was the manager or coach(whatever you want to call it) of the people and that is why we love him so much. You are the man Tommy Lasorda great answer lol fucking .130 CLASSIC ANSWER!

    I had the priviledge and pleasure of attending Tommy LaSorda's 88 Birthday. A private affair downtown LA with a dozen or so others most of us Veterans. Many people don't know just how much support Tommy and the Dodgers give to our Veterans. He is a true wealth of baseball lore and captivated the entire group with stories from his rookie year to the day he was released to make room for Sandy Koufax, which by the way he said, "was the biggest mistake the Dodgers ever made" LOL! I will treasure that day forever. Everyone was able to ask him one question and I asked him, "what did you say to Kirk Gibson after he touched home plate?" He smiled, looked me right in the eye, "that was one hell of a crazy night" Go Dodgers!

  • @janettemcclelland2959
    @janettemcclelland2959 9 ปีที่แล้ว +62

    The late Jim Healy regularly used this as a sound bjt on his radio show in LA. With lots of bleeps.

    • @martykatz5823
      @martykatz5823 8 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      +Janette McClelland Yup, Healey was more timeless even than these clips. And they were actually even funnier with all the bleeping. Weekdays 5:30 to 6:00 have never been the same since the dreaded 6:00 tone sounded for the last time.

    • @janettemcclelland2959
      @janettemcclelland2959 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      My mom became a fan after she heard this clip and the Dick Williams "you talk about chicken(bleep)"clip. The bleeps helped set up the punchline of Healy's stories. Sometimes he'd even be laughing after he'd use the sound bite as an effect. Sorely missed 20 years after his death.

    • @martykatz5823
      @martykatz5823 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      +Janette McClelland If my memory is correct, Dick Williams "you talk about chicken(bleep)" was actually related to this clip. Williams said it in the game where Neidenfuer apparently hit one of the padres batters. He was ranting about how the Dodgers had hit all these home runs against the Padres that year, and had never been thrown at, but the Padres hit one and Neidenfuer throws at the next batter. Eventually Neidenfuer was fined and Bavacqua commented "They should fine that fat little Italian too, he ordered it." And this clip is, of course, Tommy's timeless response to that.

    • @martykatz5823
      @martykatz5823 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +Janette McClelland By the way that one clip of Williams contained the clips Healey would use over and over again "you talk about chicken (bleep)" AND "Neidenfuer, my (bleep)!"

      ***** Do you even know what a "wop" is? I can assure you, that with a last name like McCarty, i most assuredly am NOT Italian. Apparently your knowledge of ethnic slurs is even less than your knowledge of baseball.

    This was a good one. Truth be told, the quote "couldn't hit water if he fell out of a boat" is in the coaches/managers handbook to be used as needed. Its been used before. But always a good laugh when used at the right time. This was one of them "right times" RIP Tommy. Look for his speech at Coopers Town. He has a couple of good stories that are his own and probably really happened. He didn't curse in front of his wife, daughter or anyone elses wife. But give him a male reporter and he will let'er rip. Thanks Tommy for the many memories.

    I remember when Lasorda was the 3rd base coach of the Dodgers when Walter Alston was the Manager. The Reds were playing the Dodgers in Cincinnati. Pete Rose was playing 3rd base. Lasorda was "miked up" just absolutely dogging Rose the whole game: talking about his family, his looks, his haircut. Rose for the most part brushed it off. But towards the end of the game Lasorda finally landed one and Rose started laughing. That's the Lasorda I will always remember.
