My mother and I were huge Giants fans. Here comes Tommy, waddling from the clubhouse door in RF at Candlestick. The whole stadium was booing, and mom goes down to the railing near our seats in Sec 5, and yells in Italian at him. Surrounded by SFPD, he waddles twords her, takes off his blue Dodger cap, and blows her a kiss. Mom sold it in an exaggerated swoon, and nearly fell over.
    Crowd cheered for them both.
From then on, all you heard from mom was "Tommy Lasorda blew me a kiss."
    She even told the Pope!
    Miss them both.

As another lifelong Giants fan I’ll agree that he was a lot of fun and he definitely spiced up the rivalry with his clowning. I’d also hope that although quite elderly by the time of the Covid year, he still had enough of his faculties present to fully recognize that he was still the winner of the last actual dodgers WS championship.

In 2004 I was sitting Field Level as the Dodgers were playing the Rockies. The Dodgers were leading 6-0 going into the 7th and I, like most Dodger fans, I knew it was a lock because in two more frames if we needed we had Gagne in the bullpen; GAMEOVER. Anyways, in between innings the ground crew was dragging the field and out of nowhere the crowd went ape-shit. I was clueless why until my girlfriend pointed out that Tommy had left his usual seat and was walking towards the tunnel. I jumped out of my seat and ran down the aisle to see if I could greet him with a handshake. I was at the wall between Field Level and Dugout Club and he passed me by. This was the closet I have ever been to the greatest Dodger that ever lived. Without hesitation I jumped the six foot drop. With a security guard grabbing my arm I exclaimed ‘Tommy! Just shake my hand Tommy!” He turned around and shook my hand and ‘Ok, Kid.’ I thanked him and went without struggle with the security guard down the tunnel by the home dugout. I was not arrested but was lead out by 4 LAPD officers to the left field gate. As I was being escorted out one of the officers asked if it was worth it. I told him I will tell my grandchild this story. Rest in Heaven Tommy, with the big Dodger in the sky.

I have a Tommy Lasorda story. During Nomo’s rookie year we went to one of his starts. Not a lot of fans back then so we went down close to the Dodgers dugout and sat in some empty seats. A couple of drunk guys started berating a vendor out loud. I mean they were going off on him. Tommy heard them and he climbed the side of the dugout and gave them a cussing I couldn’t believe!! He called them Fucken jerks and how they were raised and a-holes for not respecting their elders. These guys sat down and kept quiet. An inning later security came and escorted them out. Tommy went off on those guys. I’ll always remember that because in the same game, Ramon Martinez tossed me a ball. We miss you Tommy!!
