  • A dry cold winter had the Caterpillar D11 meet it's nemesis , that being rock hard frozen ground. At times scrambling for grip the big bulldozer was not to be denied. Final score CAT D11R "One". Frozen ground " Zero ". I didn't fare quite as well with a case of mildly frostbit fingers from holding the camera. A few painful minutes in front of the car heater and things were back to normal.

I would have run the top rams a bit longer to reduce the angle of attack on the tooth. Looks a bit square with the shank leaning forward. Penetration and lift would have been better with a flatter tooth.

Gordon Douglas in theory yes but in finer frozen material on the first past that has limited success

A 10 feels pretty useless ripping frozen ground, especially without corks and semi worn out tracks. But after that first pass he will have enough traction to get some good depth on the next.

Alex Williamson's blind adventures oops. Pretty much the same.... no traction is no traction.

@@Gavin84w That the 575 is 45 Tonnes heavier and 300hp more powerdul than the D11.
      No contest..better make it between a 475 and a D11 - that would be a closer match..
