      When I took them out of the box all wrapped in paper, I thought, the plants I bought weren't that big... :)
      The knife was made by a friend of mine. But it is better to carve wood than to open boxes.

      They have a very nice geometry.
      Unfortunately, one of these two is not of the variety it should be. Namely the one that bloomed. I found the characteristics of the flower strange and when it produced fruit without being pollinated I had confirmation. Some of the seed varieties I bought from the same person are also suspect but I only be able to confirm when they produce flower. It's not that I'm too upset about it, as I have more of this variety bought from trusted people, but I've removed this seller's name from my list.I'm not saying he's dishonest, but at the very least he's incompetent.

    I seriously think you need some more soil/compost material in there instead of just gravel and sand.
    I grow Lophophora in uk and had four plants for nearly 30 years now. My soil mix is half compost and loam with the rest free draining aggregate from around 6mm down to sand.
    I water about weekly during mid spring onwards and in autumn cut down to once a month then during actual winter not at all until early spring

      I use liquid fertilizer on plants that are in purely mineral substrate, and worm castings on younger plants.

    Your plants look great. What is your medium made up of?

    • @lophoflora
      @lophoflora  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks. My substrates contain: pumice, lava, zeolite, crushed expanded clay, sand, shale, akadama, worm castings, in different grain sizes and proportions suitable for each plant. I have other more "exotic" mineral types but I haven't used them on Lophophora. Very hot summers and some winter cold help to maintain a natural shape.

    Nice Lophs. How soon do you water after repotting plant mail? Thanks.

    • @lophoflora
      @lophoflora  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It depends, if the plants have the roots intact I wait two weeks and water, as long as it has enough temperature. If the roots are trimmed, I pot them in a light, airy substrate like pumice or perlite and wait for new roots to appear. When this happens, I repot in the usual substrate and water a week or two later. In the case of plants purchased in autumn/winter, I pot and wait for spring.

      @@JamesEndoSanJoseCARealEstate1 The plants I have on my balcony, I water when I know I will have 4 or 5 days of sun. As the space is covered by glass, during the day the temperature could range from 30°C to 50°C in summer. I haven’t started watering this year yet. The temperature should allow the substrate to dry within a few days. As I live in a place with very dry summers, this is not a problem. Cultivation methods must be adapted to the existing conditions. The plants I have indoors (seedlings), I keep at temperatures of around 30°C all year round and I water weekly.

      @@lophoflora Hi, I don't mean to piggyback off James' comment but I recently got two plants in the mail. Both of their roots were trimmed. Any idea how long it takes for new roots to grow. I'm just not used to NOT watering my plants for such a long time 😅 these are my first lophs and I want to make sure they stay happy and healthy for a long time.

      Hola, yo soy de Portugal, en el caso de estas dos plantas en particular, no voy a divulgar el origen, ya que al menos una de ellas no parece ser la variedad anunciada, ya que resultó ser autofertil. Hasta que aclare el problema con el vendedor, no lo revelaré. Uhlig kakteen vende a veces. Tuvieron algunos diffusa hace unos días pero se agotan rápidamente.

      @@CarmeloSoy No tengo "Las Coloradas" pero tengo muchas semillas de esta época, más semillas compradas de E. horizonthalonius y Ariocarpus. Ahora mismo estoy en medio de mudarme a un apartamento más pequeño ... las plantas jóvenes tendrán que permanecer en el interior bajo luz artificial... Las crestatas son preciosas! En este poco tiempo que llevo cultivando he tenido algunos abigarrados, uno albino (que no sobrevivió) y tengo una diffusa dicotómica y otra que nació verde y se volvió completamente amarilla.

Una la conservo. Cierto es que la técnica para sacarlas sin que salgan naturalmente la desconozco

      @lophoflora  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hi, I used a mixture of two substrates that I buy from a nursery. The one I used in greater quantity is composed of: pumice, zeolite, lava. The other contains: pumice, zeolite, lava, crushed expanded clay, sand and, eventually, some bits of shale. I also added extra pumice and some akadama. The mixture that covers the roots contains a little bit of worm castings. After repot them, I regretted not having put some of the substrate where they came in. To move to the new substrate some of the microorganisms that cohabited with the plants.

      You are in the United States, I cannot help you. But if you want to buy plants from a specific location, go to trusted producers. The person who sold me these two deceived me, the plant that flowered in the video is the northern variety, not huizache. He also sold me seeds of Lophophora alberto-vojtechii "Nuevo Leon", and the plants turn out to be L williamsii.

    Honest question, are these psychedelic? Or is all peyote psychedelic?

    • @lophoflora
      @lophoflora  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If by peyote you mean the species Lophophora williamsii, yes they all have C11H17NO3 and you never know how much. Also, bear in mind that there are 4 other species of Lophophora, which you need to know how to identify, and some of those produce potentially lethal chemicals.
      I am not an apologist for the consumption of these endangered plants.
