    I would recommend trimming the roots while they are still dry. Trim all the roots all the way down to the tap roots. Give it a couple months and the plant will grow all new feeder roots. That big tap root will sustain it during that time. This is common practice among growers in Thailand, east Asia. Everytime they repot their plants they trim the roots down to the primary/tap roots. It helps to keep the roots healthy and it makes it easier to repot them. Your plants were grown in pots that were too shallow for them as evidenced by the tip of the tap root going off to the side rather than straight down. You can also trim off that tip portion of the tap root. That will train it to grow straight down again. They need tall narrow pots to accommodate the long tap root. IDK why its so hard to find proper sized pots for deep rooted cactus plants. Its like everyone wants to make wide shallow pots for cactus plants and that's just backwards.

    I just brush the complete plant in dry sulphur powder upon arrival. I usually plant right away and water in a week or two as you said.

      Unfortunately the plant with rust spots died a few months later. The interior had been devoured. I learned that I shouldn't buy plants from other countries during the winter.

    After potting when is the first watering?

    • @lophoflora
      @lophoflora  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@CannaGro81 It depends on the hydration status of the plant, the size/age of the plant and the environmental conditions. If it is growing season and the temperature is favorable I wait two days (seedlings) to a week, the larger the plant the longer I wait. I often do partial watering and other times, especially if the weather is very hot, I do normal watering. The state of the plant should dictate when and how.

      Koehres-kakteen is a good source of seeds and has a huge number of locality varieties.

    Is the wet able sulfur something you get from a plant store?

    • @lophoflora
      @lophoflora  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, it's sulfur sold for plants. Where I live is known by that name. On cuts it is better to use the powder directly. I only apply with a brush in very small areas, so that it sticks to the plant.

    Isn't koehresii a variety of diffusa?

    • @lophoflora
      @lophoflora  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It depends, for some authors it is a variety of Lophophora diffusa and for others a different species.

    Expecting a new specimen later today, what concentration/mix of hydrogen peroxide do you use the for the initial cleaning of the roots? Thanks

    • @lophoflora
      @lophoflora  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I only wash the roots if strictly necessary, having found parasites or any other signs of trouble. If not, I keep them dry and the plants only get water one or two weeks after being potted. The dilution I normally use as a preventive is 60ml of hydrogen peroxide at 3% to 1000ml of distilled water.

      Lol . . . your a mind reader. My next question was going to be, “about how long after repotting do you wait for their first watering”. Thanks again my friend, will be following the path you started on this journey. Really love these little plants, and want to make sure I give them every advantage I can.
