I'm Assyrian and we also make rice like this... my nana and aunties make rice this for the most part. my mother and are not big fans so we do plain rice. what ever floats your boat. love your videos!
Thanks!! So glad you noticed. Those pots are my favorite to cook in. Not only are they really pretty but they cook more evenly and much faster than stainless steel. Especially with my very weak stove top flame...
My YiaYia used to make similar, but she added left over cooked roast chicken to it. She also used to make pougouri, sort os similar to this but with bulgar wheat. Very popular in Cyprus
Thank you. This is the very closest to how my mother used to make hers. Including the pot you make it in. The only difference is that you used part olive oil, and lemon. She used Uncle Ben's rice.
I love how we can see the immaculate unused Greek living-room in the background... No one is allowed to sit on that furniture, be honest... I bet the kids aren't even allowed to sneeze in that room, let alone hang out in it... and, I wouldn't be surprised if the sofa was covered with plastic... Us Italian people are very very similar to our Greek ancestors... Our living rooms are not lived-in either, and they smell like old-lady perfume and furniture-polish as well.
Not all Mediterranean countries use the same recipes, when someone states "Mediterranean cuisine" it means they share a lot of core ingredients but not necessarily recipes. There is no traditionally Mediterranean recipes, the traditional part equates to the recipe owner of a specific country not the group itself.
Have you seen what happen to Toula's sofa? There is a cigarette-burn, right there, on the main cushion... I ask her, "Toula, who would do this to your sofa? Did you hire a Turkish maid, or what?", and she try to blame it on her daughter in law... Bullsheet... I know she fell asleep with a τσιγάρο when she was watching Στην Υγειά Μας on the big TV, that bitz... (She's my best friend, you know?)
That is capellini, NOT vermicelli. In Italy (I kind of think they invented it), vermicelli is a bit wider than spaghetti. We have decided that the mis-named vermicelli of Vietnam is now the world's new name for capellini. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Pasta_2006_1.jpg

whn you poured the rice with the rest of the mixture was the rice already cooked or was it still uncooked plz tell me i am trying to do this myself
Hi! The rice was uncooked. I just soaked it for 10-15 mins before in cool water and then drained out that water. Hope this helps
Besides her website, does anyone know where to buy vermicelli??? I can’t seem to find it anywhere.
Your local middle eastern market will have it for sure.
Dimitra's Dishes thank you so much!!
WITH THAT MUCH BUTTER, anything will taste good. ...wow......
