    Are we forgetting Ego's own explanation of his history? He didn't start out as a planet. He was a brain floating in space. Seems like he could have just been a celestial that was defeated in some kind of battle and left for dead. At some point, his brain healed enough to awaken but with his memory lost.

    • @sauce8277
      @sauce8277 2 ปีที่แล้ว +63

      @@sauce8277 saw it but my reply was adding more to the physical state of his birth "egg." All the life dying wouldn't cause him to end up drifting in space with no planet.
      It would lead to a undeveloped Celestial. Whether that would just pause deployment or eventually kill the Celestial idk.
      The planet he was incubating in had to be destroyed to fit the entire Ego narration of his coming to exist.
      So I was suggesting an event had lead to a premature birth that destroyed his planet, not just the life dying.

  • @Oibble
    @Oibble 2 ปีที่แล้ว +33

    Is it not possible that Ego is like Agent Smith in The Matrix? An anomaly among the Celestials. That ended up deciding he didn't want to just be what the Celestials wanted him to be. And in taking over every planet in existence, he's fighting against the Celestials by removing them and stopping them from ever being born.

    1) Thanos' knew killing half was enough to starve all the unhatched celestials.
    2) Ego was planted into a planet that blew up, so he 'evolved' into something different.

    I think the only reason Peter's celestial powers worked and the others didn't is because Ego received the others before they had finished their version of what we call puberty, and since Yondu kept Peter, he was allowed to fully mature which would also allow his Celestial abilities to appear whereas Ego's other Hybrid kids were probably taken around the same age as Peter, either before the Maturing process or near the beginning and since they hadn't completed it like Peter did, they never gained access to their Celestial side

    I'm fine with the theory, although considering what happened with the deviants AND the eternals, I'd say that yes, the Celestials are that dumb, likely because they have literally all of the time in the universe, so they don't see failures as significant issues in their masterplan, failures are just new data, much like the eternal's boss guy pretty much said so at the end of the movie

  • @neil7204
    @neil7204 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I like the thought of Galactus being introduced as the devourer specifically of Celestial-seeded worlds. And I can buy the theory that Ego was an experimental step in the Celestials' evolution, enacted as an answer to Galactus. I actually think that would sync well in line with the lowkey running theme the Guardians films have explored regarding the pitfalls of forced evolution (1. Rocket as the most scared of all within the group (according to his counterpart, Yondu) because he's been engineered into a new, uncertain state of personhood by way of what experimentation was done to him, 2. Peter turning down the choice to receive cosmic insight and bond with the light in full because doing so would've only deprived him of the greater connection to those he loved - a connection with which he identifies on a very human, non-godly level, 3. the impending trouble wrought by the inevitably premature development of Adam, set to appear in the third film). The part I have an issue reconciling is the theory that Ego was actually unwittingly doing the Celestials' bidding by "double-seeding" their planets of choice. It just feels clunky. Like there are too many overlapping variables that need to line up in a row to make the same buns come out of the same ovens. I get the sense Ego will be explained as an intentional creation exactly as posited in this video, but then that's when I think random chance takes over, as it often does in actual evolution. I think somehow, someway, Ego was abandoned by the Celestials after being deemed insufficient as a viable "next step" for them. I imagine they would've been disinclined to kill a being which is technically one of their own. So in classic Celestial grand-scale-calculus fashion, they decided it wasn't worth it to nurture a perceived failure but also opted to let him live and make his own way (continuing, though not quite mirroring, the inadvertent orphan theme shared with his son). But perhaps they didn't anticipate his evolving the ability to seed other planets via organic extensions of himself, just as they did not anticipate the evolution of their own deviants. So Ego goes off the rails, showing up on thousands of planets and doing the only thing life has taught him to do thus far: create more life. I think his ends ran oppositional to the Celestials' plan, though. And I think Quill and Co. taking out Ego was actually doing Arishem a favor. Just a guess though.

    • @woll3Y
      @woll3Y ปีที่แล้ว

      While classic storytelling frames good vs. evil, I think the MCU has done a good job framing a struggle between order vs. chaos. With a few evil henchmen thrown in to keep it interesting to all audiences. Greco-Roman mythology covered the order/chaos subject before human knowledge developed to a point where we didn't need gods to explain the unexplainable. Galactus as Top Predator maintains order by preying on Celestials to ensure life doesn't overrun the universe and gobble up all the resources. @screencrush has a theory that Ego creates camouflage that hides Celestial embryos from getting eaten, in keeping with the predator/prey relationship there. If the universe is in balance like an ecosystem, then Galactus eats just the right amount of Celestials to keep the universe from overpopulating, while Celestials need to constantly innovate to make sure Galactus goes hungry and life continues. Galactus would, therefore, also need to evolve to survive. Balance is the delicate Order in which life thrives, but if either side gains too much advantage for long enough, then the imbalance will be irreversible, and Chaos results. With the introduction of the multiverse and time travel, MCU writers in the next phase should consider Galactus as a traveler between universes (extra-universal?) and needs to come to ours because the Celestials have begun toying with timelines and multiverse conflicts here in a way (peaceful or otherwise) that threatens the balance that has existed for billions of years. Only the Avengers would have the intelligence, strength, and spirit to restore balance in a way that preserves our planet, or this time our whole universe.

    Personal theory:
    Ego is the balance to the Eternals. Throughout MCU we see agents of balance. While Galactis is feeding off the Eternals seed or straight up taking them in battle, he has no way of reproducing. This means that the balance could be thrown off if/when he is killed. That necessitates Ego. A force that can destroy to the Eternals while not in direct battle as his power is tied to his source. Assuming part of what he stated is true, blowing up the planet only freed his consciousness from the confines of a rocky planet and he is now again drifting along until he reconstitutes himself in another planet form.
    Peter on the other hand is the evolution of Ego. He is not tethered to the source planet as Ego is. He is able to stay away without dying. This could mean that his powers, while not equal to Ego's may be more able to feed off other sources.

    This theory isn’t a good one.. I’m leaning on the idea that Ego lied about being a celestial… In the comics he’s given people powers and boosts like the silver surfer in silver surfer black. The surfer alone could annihilate a planet which is only a tiny portion of the power cosmic. There’s no way in hell Ego could keep up with the likes of galactus let alone the surfer in power. Multiple Celestials could possibly slow down galactus but a well fed galactus is damn near unstoppable and realistically has to either be led to another planet to consume or gets threatened by the ultimate nullifier (which is an extension of galactus’ full power) which Reed Richards wiped out an entire universe with. So no ego has no place among characters who would pose a threat to Galactus.

    Revisiting this video after a long while, and I have a question about this theory. If the Celestials could have just popped up to stop someone like Ego from destroying their plan, what about the other universe shown in What If...? where Ultron just obliterates everything? Is that a universe that just didn't have Celestials to stop him? Were they just too slow to get to earth in time before he grew too powerful? What about the potential repercussions that Infinity Ultron would have caused for Galactus?

  • @theseus780
    @theseus780 ปีที่แล้ว

    good theory. it also fits that earth now has a dead baby celestial in its ocean. so instead of silver surfer having to convince galactus to skip over earth because people deserve to live, he just has to convince him that planets without celestial seeds won't taste as good.

  • @tonywebert8326

    Half-celestial demigod: Wanda.
    Wandavision totally retconned her origin from Age of Ultron, stating that the reason that the bomb didn't kill her and Pietro as kids was because she actually had her power back then and kept it from exploding. The Mind Stone and Hydra's experiments only awakened/augmented her powers.
    Even if Mutants enter the MCU it won't matter, because the comics retconned Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver anyway. They are Magneto's adopted kids, and aren't actually mutants.

    Odin, the Pheonix Force, Zeus, and a couple others come to mind as possibly on Starlords level when it comes to characters who are extremely strong and could be some kind children of Celestials. Add in Chthon and other big baddies too.
    I still think Kang is the focus of phase 4, because he has numerous versions and keeps coming back in the comics, but Galactus or Doom will come along and be in phase 5.

    I think the answer to Ego’s status as a Celestial is a lot simpler. He’s a Celestial in larva stage. The planetary shell he embodies is just a stage of development before he forms his armor exoskeleton. As for Peter, I think he might not be Ego’s son in the typical biological sense. Celestials can create living bodies and imbue them with Celestial power, like the eternals. I think it may turn out that Peter is a lot more like a half human/half eternal hybrid than half Celestial. That is why Peter lost his power when Ego died, it was always Ego’s power being channeled through him

    Interesting theory, though unlikely.
    If we go to look for "Celestial kids" in the MCU then there's not a lot of options among the characters presented so far. In the comics, Thor is the son of the primordial god, Gaia who conspired with Odin to create an especially powerful Asgardian champion. Gaia is a physical representation of the Earth, and so an easy answer if you're fishing for a Celesti-kid would be Thor. But at this point it would dramatically change the character. You could use one of Thor's brothers, like Baldur or Loki (whom we have never seen an established birth mother for), but we probably won't be adding too much Asgard lore, now that their homeworld is gone. Instead, I'd look to the next Thor movie where he apparently reaches Olympus and sees Zeus. If we're talking famous Olympians tied in with Thor to the comics, then we're definitely talking about his good buddy and rival, the Prince of Power himself, Hercules.
    Hercules, assuming he gets introduced would be a fantastic option for the Celesti-kid theory. Hercules is always established as a demi-god even in myth, his father is famously Zeus but his mother is less well known by the general public, so it would be a comparatively easier change.
    Otherwise I'd say Bruce Banner, but that would take a lot of explaining.

    • @onecingulardude06
      @onecingulardude06 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      you are definitely onto something with this! I could definitely see Bruce Banner being a demigod! and we know Hercules most definitely!

    I was just watching a production about the birth & death of recycling of plastics but aside from that horror story, I enjoyed this production as in, Great Stories are created & told by great culture before great calamity. All that is left are are relics of those stories for times to come by others to unfold & interpret. We live in a truly Marvelous age, pardon the pun... Our natural resources will not last forever & what Thanos fought to accomplish was indeed noble. There are more humans alive today than have ever died. Bad times are soon to come.
