DMV: Moto-Camping in Montana - Beartooth & Chief Joseph Highways - Rocky Mountain Breakdown

- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 16 ต.ค. 2024
- Settling in to my new environs outside of Red Lodge, Montana, I camp high in the mountains on my NC750X. I begin to notice an annoying rattle coming from my motor, and my friend Dave shows up with his schoolbus. With the bike still running, we take a ride up the spellbinding Beartooth and Chief Joseph Highways, after which the sound becomes impossible to ignore, and I'm forced to load up in Dave's schoolbus for a ride back to Sturgis.

Thanks for taking us all alone Joe.
Anytime bro
Another great video Joe!
To Dave (if you're reading this...)
Put a mirror on a magnet and stick it to the driver's side wall when you're rolling your bike out onto the lift.
This way when you're sitting on the bike, you can see exactly where and how your tires are aligning themseleves onto the lift ramp, without having to lean over the side like that, and it's still hard to see. Heck, you could even paint a yellow stripe on the floor onto the ramp to make aligning it that much easier on yourself!
...and when you're loading the bike to put it back inside, you could stick that mirror onto the opening of the bus so that you can again, check to see where your tires are at according to the ramp.
Good job being a friend to Joe and giving him and his bike a lift like that. 👍
I too have riden over Beartooth, and it's spectacular!!!
Thanks man!!
Pucker factor on the lift! Great application
Leavin us hanging with this engine ,, I needs to know !
Stay tuned!
I was wondering when you were gonna break out the cold weather gear. Drown out the bad tunes with good tunes. 😮 Love it. Good video. Thanks for posting Joe and ride safe.
Already puttin' that 360 to work!
I met some of those fat ground squirrels where I camped just west of Cheyenne.
You know it!! 😅
👍
I remember being in West Yellowstone and when I pulled in at the end of August they had hundreds of snowmobile's parked outside😅😅
Haha wow dude
Another Great camping; riding video. Hope all goes well with the repair. Those roads are a must ride for all.
Thanks bro!
Awesome just awesome
Thanks man
Bear Tooth Pass, still my favorite of them all.
Absolutely!
Yak river in big sky is cold. We get to know our machines. Cyclepedia makes an excellent tear down level manual for the Honda 250l, perhaps they have one for your bike? Another wrenching buddy in bookform. Thanks for the inspiration to ride that one day. Peace
Beautiful scenery what a beautiful ride sorry to hear about the noise the deer wasn't bothered with you at all thanks for sharing
You were quite blessed with a ride.
Absolutely 💯
Wow Joe!! Bear Tooth Pass is a beautiful ride!!! Red Lodge and Cooke City, wonderful riding towns. What a great friend to haul your ride and you all the way to Sturgis!! God Bless safe ridin rubber down

I rode from Kentucky just to ride the Pass and the Cheif Joseph Hwy.

Awesome dude!
Great video Joe, I hope you got your motorcycle fixed sure sounds like the cam chain slapping , thank you Joe for the fine video
Thanks man!
Having buddy's with good mechanical abilities and year's of experience, they'll figure it out.
yea that isn't sketchy at all. Hate your having trouble again but good thing he was there to help you get back to strugis.
👍
Great video Joe! Nice rides out there in the mountains.

Glad you enjoyed it
Nice vid, hope the Honda repair goes well.
Thanks man
Dude I was just there like two days ago! We called at the base on Red Lodge side, took the pass then to Chief Joseph, to Casper, now I’m camping in Colorado Springs. Back to ATL in three days.
Hahaha awesome man
Damn, I miss being on the road in the USA. Left Basin Camp outside Red Lodge on 23 June last year. Had to leave early for Yellowstone prior to the snow arrived. Glad I did. The Beartooth Pass appearantly got 4ft of snow next 24 hrs! 😅
By the way, got a photo of my own bike at exactly the same spot, by the lake. 😄
Haha awesome dude!
Excellent video. I hope there's nothing serious wrong with your bike 👍
Thanks man
The video was awesome Joe the scenery was fantastic hope you get your bike fixed best of luck from Ireland
Cheers mate! Thanks 😊
Beartooth and Chief Joseph, it just don’t get any better than this. I have ridden them a couple of times. I wish I could turn back the clock a couple of years and do them again. Keep ‘em coming Joe. Best of luck on the engine noise. You may have a bad timing chain. I always change the chain too when the tensioners go bad.
👍
Beautiful video, love the sound of running water. Happy camping to you. ❤
Glad you liked it!
Good video as always Joe, hope you your bike fixed, brilliant equipment for loading the bikes 😮
Right!
I was there june 1st 2020. Have a picture of my bike in front of the elevation sign with 3 feet of snow. It was 33 degrees at the top.
Wow!
Nice video, I rode the same roads. You're not doing the best with bikes but getting educated.
Exactly!
Thanks joe
Anytime!
Disconcerting, indeed! 😮😂😂😂
👍
Oh nice…u got a insta 360, I’m digging those views
Yessir, thanks!
As a footnote, you do a great job with keyframes...
Thanks dude!
Great share Joe! Pics & Video don’t do those rides justice, huh?
Absolutely 💯
Hello Joe, you've probably left camp 5 by now with the bike fixed. Have you tried the hammock yet ? Glad you like the sponge soap pads. If you come through New Mexico, got a place available for you. Good luck. Hope to see you this winter. Rogue
Thanks man! Haven’t got a chance to try it yet- I accodentally left it on the work truck 😅 hope to make it down there maybe next spring
@@dirtymotorcyclevagabond I'm sure you're boss will save it for you. At least I hope so !
Looks like you've removed and installed windshields, a time or 2
Once or twice 😆
Hopefully the bike will be an easy fix 👍
Great video Joe, hopefully you solved the issue with the rattling noise. That’s a great touring bus, especially with that bike hoist. Is that Dave's home year round? Gotta get me a school bus to do the same thing 😂
Thanks man. He lives in PA and just uses the bus for trips
Beautiful ride Joe, Where were you camping near Red Lodge? Thanks for sharing.
Thanks man. Off of west fork road. If you stop by the rangers office they’ll let you know
@@dirtymotorcyclevagabond It looked like my type of camping, Basin campground is in that area was wondering if that was it. Thanks again brother
Hands down the David Atenburl of motorcycle travel and camping and obove all the Bagavon Gormay Chef of the outdoors, Truly remarkable.
Hahaha 😂 thanks man, glad you enjoy
Great video Joe. Sorry about your bike. I hope it's just the cam chain tensioner. It's a lot of work but as you have shown before, it can be done with not a hole lot of tools. How many miles are on the bike? If you need another one, check with Honda to see if there is a superseded part number. If there is? Check it with the one you just put in the bike. Good luck to you Joe. If you want, send me the part number and I'll go to my local Honda dealership and check it out 4 ya.
Any way to reveal where that free camping spot is? I plan on riding out there after next year's rally.
There is no shortage of boondock spots in the Redlodge area.Half the adventure is exploring and finding your own spot.
Hopefully it's nothing too serious buddy. Biketoberfest is right around the corner
I’ll be there! 😎
The views riding Beartooth and Chief Joseph were spectacular. You may have picked up a 360 camera? More video perspectives make for better videos Good stuff. Not too much, either. 30-Degrees at night WTF. Wasn't it 100 degrees the day before. Yikes. BTW what year is your NC750X. I haven't heard people on the Face-B forum discussing bike issues.
Thanks man! It’s a 2019 yeah just trying out that 360
Surprised the Honda's giving you so much trouble
👍
Bummer about the engine noise (AGAIN)... Hope you get it figured out and at a minimal cost. nice scenery on your ride but I still prefer wooded forest land.
👍
I am ready to get back on the road.
❤️
if you have not seen videos of these giant Bears ripping apart the doors or even the siding of cabins and homes cause they smell a old jar of Peanut butter left in a cabinet it will show how bad ass they are to get at what they want to eat
😮
Nice views from Beartooth but I can't do high wide open places.
Within my 1st month of riding I was on the million dollar highway. Haven't been right since. 🥺
Yeah it’s up there a ways lol
Strange this engine keeps eating cam chain tensioners. Is this a common problem on this model?
It’s not uncommon. The part is in back order, and there are a couple videos out on replacing
How do you like that 360 camera Joe? I have one and I’m not quite sold on it yet. I hope there’s not too much wrong with your bike and you can get it fixed, hopefully it’s nothing catastrophic.
I’m liking it man. Takes up a lotta hard drive space tho.
Is the 360 camera something new, or haven't i noticed before because of your great videos?...keep them coming...OCB
Yeah just picked up an older model. It’s got some cool features. Thanks!
How do you like that 360 camera Joe? I have one and I’m not quite sold on it yet.
Liking it man. You have to watch your hard drive space since the files take up a lot of space
Thanks again for the pizza hut Dave. 😂
You're keeping me on pins and needles. This is like the third video since you asked for help.
What's the engine mystery??
Inquiring minds want to know!
Stay tuned! 😅
@@dirtymotorcyclevagabond 😟😟
Sure hate that your having trouble again
It happens
Hey man, I’m in the Lewes area. You interested in a local riding buddy (45 yr old). New to riding motorcycles but not stranger to others like Atvs and dirt bikes mostly. But just bought a beginner, maybe long term 2023 CB500x
this type of camping will soon become
more deadly and i mean tent camping and
most likely even R V camping as the government is now releasing Grizzly Bears on to lands mostly in the west but plan to do the same in parts of the east where none have been around for over 100 years
Crazy stuff. I hadn’t heard about it. They’re doing the same thing with wolves. That’s just what we need
From the Grizzly bear hatchery? Where does this supply of bears come from? This is not a thing. Montana is trying to get limited Grizzly bear hunting started. If they succeed, the bear population will be stabilized
As an owner of a ‘22 NC750X, I’m disheartened to hear of your engine problems. How many miles does it have? and have you done anything to your suspension? Have you been using Honda oil? All the Honda’s I’ve owned have been trouble free. Then again they didn’t have the miles you most likely have accumulated nor the load you carry. Hope it’s nothing major.
Yeah I mostly stick with GN4. 30k miles
I’m running a hyper pro rear shock and progressive front spring
@@dirtymotorcyclevagabond
I appreciate your reply and I am patiently waiting for follow up on engine. Regards
Many its time you switch to a Harley.....They are very inexpensive now...Keep up the great videos Thank you
Sometimes even factory parts can have a defect you might have to do some research and see if someone has made an improvement to the design
👍
