@@SoopaGaming Yeah it was freaking awesome! I didn't get to hang around after everyone played, but I still got to see Andrew and Johnny by the merch tables.
I think it lends itself to more stoner/doom rather than syncopated djenty stuff. I have an Orange Rocker 15 Terror and rarely use it for modern metal, but if I'm playing Mastodon? Hell yeah. I have a Fortin 33 pedal, haven't tried yet in front of the Orange (I mostly play 8 string through my Mesa Triple Crown 100W), so I'm curious if it would tighten it up enough. The Orange has so much low end compared to the Mesa, so wonder if it would balance it out.
I bought an OR15 with my 8-string (because I played something like it in the store and really liked how it sounded in spite of that bassiness) and the best trick I've found so far is putting a DS-1 in the effects loop, and splitting the amount of gain I want between the amp's drive and the pedal's distortion knob -- it doesn't affect the timbre of the distortion very much but if I put the pedal's tone knob anywhere around center it really tightens up the sound and cleans up that bottom end. Only downside in my bedroom is it gets a little bit tricky to control the volume :D
Imagine sitting in a room in GERMANY with an 8 string multiscale ibanez, filled with fricken ENGL amps and being forced to play through an OR-30 lol. Comedy gold, sounded badass and crunchy when dialed in with lower gain.
You guys rock together, and the chemistry is real! 😂 Seriously, having just a couple points of reference can be awesome just because of the differences of approach - in this example, tone. I appreciate you two allowing us to join you on this experience! Thought I was subbed to you, Andrew, and rectified that now! Cant freaking wait to try these out. Ordered a Satin Black Amaranth 7 String Jackson JS Series Dinky Arch Top JS22-7 DKA HT and an 8 string White Ibanez RG8WH with IBZ Humbuckers. Both look beautiful and price wise after seeing and watching reviews of it, look like an awesome great starter cheap 7 and 8 string guitars. These 2 are definitely gonna be my most quality wise guitars i have lol. 2 electric guitars i have are off branded . The 4 string bass guitar i have so far is the most expensive thing i have guitar wise , an Ibanez bass ( forgot the name of it lol but it looks beautiful and it costs over 300 Canadian dollars, i think nearly 400) excited to test these guitars out. Dipping my toes in new territories here lol and I'm all here for it. Hopefully can master some Meshuggah songs is my goal in the next couple months. Wish me luck when they arrive, thank you for the awesome vids in convincing me to get an 8 and 7 string guitar
Very tempted to get one of those MT15s, they seem incredible value for money and ideal for modern metal. Although 8 strings can be a challenge so that's even more impressive that it handles one of those Ibanez 8 strings well.
I’ve been using a solar A1.8 instead of the Ibanez but regardless of the brand I highly recommend you try out an mt15 for your 8 string. The dirty channel almost feels so tight and so laser focused high gain that it almost reacts like a plug-in. Very brutal
I have an OR50, and I really dig it with a 7 string. I use a dirty tree and sometimes a guptech PTSD. But I have to run the guptech in the front because those amps have no fx loop. I just digg the orange tone.
I’m so curious about choosing the Ibanez for touring. On previous reviews, he stated a string preference for the neutral fret to be lower, around 7 or 9. AFAIK Ibanez always sets theirs at 12. Wouldn’t that be way less comfortable for touring? Wondering what else that guitar offers that led to that change in preference.
Pleasantly surprised by how good the Orange sounded. The St. James was decent, but god that HT Stage was atrocious, even with all the tweaking. Great video overall!
The new blackstars sound worse than the cheapest chinese distortion pedal, what are they even doing? I love it that these amps are being shown as the next Jesus coming 😂😂😂 Money talks, money buys opinions, but all that won't make me buy any blackstar amp EVER, I'm not sure if I'd keep it even given for free!
I take it that Kyle and Andrew are roughly the same age but Kyle is definitely more old school which is more relatable to me, there is no substitute for a big hot tube amp. As for 8 string guitars, I suppose they have their place if played well but everyone I have heard sounds like a dump truck falling down a mountain, random noise.
@@Fistful0fSteel Admittedly I'm a fan of being on the slinkier side and boosting loose amps. I use a 10-74 in drop F# and it's ideal for what I like LOL. It's pretty loose, but with the right setup still sounds snappy and brutal.

I hate when people, especially you, call 8 string guitars dumb, since you're one of the biggest 8 string advocates on youtube. It's the best thing to happen to metal in more recent times.
