How about the secretory glands on the head. Like the barking deer of the Himalayas the serow marks its territory with the glands.

Great observation! You're absolutely right. Similar to the barking deer of the Himalayas, the Japanese Serow possesses secretory glands on their heads, which play a crucial role in their territorial behavior. These glands are located near the base of their horns and are used to mark their territory by rubbing against trees and rocks. This behavior not only helps in establishing their domain but also aids in communication with other serows. It's fascinating how nature has equipped different species with unique methods for territory marking and communication. Thanks for pointing out this interesting fact!
