I've been trying to find out about mailing list for over 2 months now, finally you offered they info I needed and I didn't even know that was going to be in this video! Thank you!
Congratulations on your great success. Excellent information here. The preparation is so important. A comic book or graphic novel is on my radar and I might do it with a crowdfunding campaign.
Not to get too personal into your finances, Jason. But is it profitable? 100 grand is a lot but obviously a lot goes to production, printing, shipping, and pledge fulfillment. Are you able to live solely on kickstarter? Or is it just to create buzz for future projects? Thanks for your content and wisdom!!
Wondering this myself. Does the money leftover from production costs, pledges, etc, stay in your pocket? Ie, could use that remaining balance as your salary to do the work?
What is never explained in a video to me is how to produce the finished product? How do I go about printing the comic and all that? I think this would be the one step that is super confusing. Do I hire a printer or printing press or can I do it myself? Thanks for any replies from anyone. I'm really just trying to learn.
I have been doing printing and graphics since, well a long time. I ran my first print piece on my high school's a.b. dick 360 back in 1982! There is no one way to produce a printed piece. It all depends on what you want to do, what you can afford and what equipment you have access to. The most important thing today would be a good office printer with a scanner and a computer with graphic design software. A creative person could design a simple black and white comic and print it up on a photocopier and then fold and staple the pages. You can but staplers that are extra long for this. If one has lots of money you can go to high end printer and create a graphic novel on heavy paper stock and full color with spot varnish and emboss but that would be very expensive per unit. Use the internet to learn about printing. You will want to know mostly about offset and digital. If you have a printing company nearby visit them. Tell them what you want to do and they can give you a lot of info on what can be done at what price. Try to design your work to the printing method. And never let your work out of your sight until you mark it as copyrighted.
Question....your Kickstarter is geared toward a book or art. What if you are trying to fund a "device" but you do not have the money for a prototype? How do you gain the people's trust if you do not have anything to give away for free?
Would you say to start a mailing list if you have a website, but the comic is no where near ready yet? I regularly update my website with 2 pieces of art and 1 article a week, but I am still working on the comic creating process.
Hi Jason, thanks for the great video! I wanna start a Kickstarter campaign for my mom's house. She really needs some help and I had a bad car accident so I can't work anymore. I have a lot of drawings from the house before and after. Would that be enough to start a good campaign? Thanks anyway
Back in the day for the first 6 years kickstarter was great! But ever since all these scum scammers got in they ruined it for us, the good people/honest!
I have a project which related to manufacture violin a musical instrument. I need fund yearly 50000$. Can you suggest how can it be possible. Thanks, i am from india
Not too accurate. I say this because your basing your advice off of your personal product. I dont think someone that wants to create fallout shelters can give away free shelters...
Dude totally sounds like Owen Wilson :P

Cracked me up
Omg! Now I can't unhear that lol
I was like "I remember Remind!" Then I was like, "Oh, that's Jason." I forgot you made Remind. 😂😂😂

quick question- do you give away the same book you want to promote on kickstarter for free first, or just like a sample?
Working on it.
Thanks for the info. We use eCrowdFundr and it works fine.

Great
Great advice but what if you can't draw and need money to hire the artists to help draw the book?
Thank you so much for this tips.

Haha! True.
This is an ad for the guy's product....don't waste your time...also most of your tribe will not pay for a product they are used to having for free.
Just cause you wasted my time WITHOUT SAYING ANYTHING IN KICKSTARTER you will get your report.
