Really compelling content, thank you. I'm a complete noob with Kickstarter and I have a couple of questions. When one pledge a sum of money do Kickstarter add on top local sales tax or VAT? Also, it is my understanding that Kickstarter acts as a financial/marketing service, so the collected money should not be considered as US based income unless one run their business in the US. Is it this assumption correct? In other words, for a business located in the EU with no established presence in the US, the collected money using the services provided by Kickstarter are not deemed as taxable income in the US? Thank you.
Mark, Your advice is always top-notch. You're truly a kind and generous person. I wasn't able to get my project off the ground with you last year, but I'm hoping we can collaborate this time around. I also have a question: could you share some examples of projects that were contracted with you but didn't pan out? What were the reasons behind their failures?
Mark, thank you so much for creating such a data-driven and comprehensive Kickstarter video. Your inclusion of case studies and personal insights was incredibly valuable and greatly appreciated. The clarity and depth of your analysis truly sets your video apart as an essential resource for anyone interested in Kickstarter or even anyone interested to step up their sales, marketing and business acumen.
This is a really solid video with a great overview of what it takes to launch a product and business successfully on Kickstarter. Good work Launchboom team!
Hi! Just a bit of confusion about one thing you said, can you clarify? - "photorealistic renderings are not allowed on Kickstarter". I have done campaigns that have mockups in the past as it's our way to show dimensions and specifics of the product. However, we still have the main video with the real product and photos with the real product. But, we do have photorealistic renderings as well. So can you explain a little bit more what you meant by, "they are not allowed" because they are from my experience haha. Thank you so much! Only in the first few mins of the video and so much great stuff!
Hmmm. So, if you don't have a physical product to take photos of for your site and only have a 3D rendered version. How do we present the item, aside from pre-launch? Do we have to have a reference site that the kickstarter takes the visitor to for seeing the rendering?
Hey Mark! First of all I would like to thank you for this content, it's hard to believe that all of this is for free. Now my question is: what is the ideal average duration for a pre-launch campaign?
Thank you! Very good and deep! Funny thing is that only in the end I started to think if its available from Europe :D hope it is, otherwise I spend like 2 or more hours of writing all info down :D Thank you once again!
Hi Mark. My product (a high-end LED gaming desk) is expensive, and I don’t have a big budget for advertising. Should I take the risk of getting a loan to reach those “elite” customers who might be interested? I have some doubts about the risks, especially since the shipping costs will be high due to the size and weight of the desk. Besides, I have tested tiktok and received great feedback from people, specially young ones (18-30 years old). Do you have any recommendations for me? great video, thank you.
Sure! Probably the one that is most proven would be building an organic social following. Now, I don't think it's that easy to do and typically takes a lot of time, but there's lots of examples of people doing this. For example, a creator we recently worked with spent a lot of time building a social following (www.youtube.com/@Nomads.Nation)
Looking to team up for one of my new prototypes. Just curious as to what is the total marketing budget as % of the kickstarter raise generally... and other costs.
Terrific stuff. Many thanks. ... I'm launching a comedy book (and not a tech product) in March 2025. Do you think Kickstarter could be relevant for a laugh-out-loud product made from dead trees?
Lots of non-tech products launch on Kickstarter, so it's worth exploring for your product. I recommend doing some research on campaigns in the publishing categories to get a better idea of the potential!
Can you limit sales due to production constraints? If I build it myself, I can only produce so many in a given month. Also, is there a delivery date limit as to how late the product should be shipped?
You can limit the sales by making all the rewards “unavailable” on the campaign once you reach your goal. There isn’t a delivery date limit but most ship within 1 year
I recommend 30 days. The beginning and end of the campaign is when typically the most funding / day comes in, so 30 days is a nice middle ground where a large percentage of the campaign happens within the first and last week.
The examples in the video are product campaigns but how can I work a campaign to start a business (I want to make a crowdfunding campaign to start a modular indoor farm in Puerto Rico) I'm not selling a product in the initial phase.
The video is really good, but it looks like you need to spend 50k (with landing pages, ads, videos, email campaings and so on) alone on the kickstarter campaign!?
There are campaigns that spend that spend that much and more but it is definitely not a requirement. Just depends on what your financial goal is. If it’s to raise multiple 6 or 7 figures, you’ll have to spend quite a bit on marketing
First off, I don't have experience crowdfunding a short film so take my answer with a grain of salt. The essence of the steps I went over can apply to any category, but the tactics may look a bit different. For example, you'll want to have a pre-launch following, but I'm not sure if Meta ads is the best traffic source. At the end of the day, what I'm teaching in this video is this: - Know who your audience is - Build a pre-launch following - Get your campaign marketing assets created - Get funded quickly - Follow up on that momentum with continued marketing
The Videos was very informative. And made me intersted in working with you I have contacted you threw the form on your website and hope to hear from you soon
How much does a first time creator spend (on average) for their Kickstarter campaign? $10k video? $15k in ads? If I needed $25k to reach my goal, I might as well fund it myself lol.
I hear you haha some first-time creators spend tens of thousands launching their products, but many don't. It really depends on what the goals of your campaign are. For example, if you have a $10K goal, then spending $25K doesn't make sense. But if your goal is $250K, spending that much (or likely more) not only makes sense, but is necessary.
There are a few different ways. For example, if you are using Facebook ads to drive most of your traffic, Facebook will tell you which countries are signing up for your email list.
I worked in an adjacent field for a while and I think he is right. There really isn't a better place than FB/IG. So him suggesting that isn't abnormal, imo

Very informative video. thanks from Ukraine!
Can't believe this video is free. Awesome.

Dear Cameron, this video is most probably sponsored by Meta ads.
@@NatalieReesEnglishChannel this video is not sponsored by any company, including Meta.
Oh my god.
This is basically a blueprint.

Thanks for the update Mark
I was starting to think that people saying "JIFs" when talking about Graphics Interchange Format are a myth. Nice video though.

This was packed with such great info! Gonna bookmark this and come back to it frequently when I don't feel like opening up the Crowdfunded book.
I was hoping it would be a good companion to the book!

I've learned a lot. Thank you very much.
Awesome video thank you so much for doing this. How long do you think prelaunch marketing should be? One month or two months? Thanks
Glad you liked it! Most creators start pre-launch ads 2-3 months before the launch.
Excellent video, thanks so much for sharing this Mark!
Of course! Glad you're liking it!

Arggh jeez I wish you put this up last week, I just sent out a newsletter for the first (and last) time😅
No worries! I'd just ease up at this point until you are leading into your launch week.
Incredible Video, action packed! 🤓👊
👊
Absolutely great value, but I would add product development to this because most projects fail because it’s just a substandard design or execution
Really good point! I'm going to look into making more content around that exact topic.
@@launchboom_officiallet me know if you wanna collaborate on that. I can help

Wishing you the best with your launch!

I need a kickstater done about my movie The Hype. Can you or a friend team up with me?
Are there any alternatives to meta ads? Have you found any ‘free’ marketing avenues to get pre launch sign ups.

Usually 10-15% of whatever is raised goes into advertising
Terrific stuff. Many thanks. ... I'm launching a comedy book (and not a tech product) in March 2025. Do you think Kickstarter could be relevant for a laugh-out-loud product made from dead trees?

34:51.. this is a great idea but how do I know if the backer comes from the influencer and how much did he pay.. ?
My product is a digital product. I don't know when will I need to upload the product. Is it before I launch, on launch date, or after I launch?

Mark, It is dishonest and disgraceful to advertise Meta ads without mentioning that this video is sponsored.
Hey Natalie, this isn't sponsored by Meta. We simply use Meta ads as part of the advertising strategy for our clients, which is why I recommend it.

Just because someone recommends a product highly doesn't always mean it's sponsored.
