I was actually on Cassie's side regarding her outrage over Lexi's play. ANYONE would be furious if their dirty laundry was suddenly aired out in public, especially if it was something intimate like the carousel scene. Fortunately, Lexi didn't mention the abortion at all.

I was on the fence about Lexi’s play, then she included the carousel scene. That was such an embarrassing moment for Cassie in season one - one of her lowest moments before things really went bad for her - and was completely unnecessary to include in a play that was for Lexi to work through her pain/trauma. Bringing it up again just felt like Lexi being petty/wanting to embarrass her sister. I understood Cassie being upset her life and trauma was being put out there for entertainment without Lexi telling her. I *completely* understood her reaction to the carousel scene being included.

It was a public event, that part was NEVER private, a whole bunch of people saw it and i wouldnt be surprised everyone else knew about it cause their town was a small town, i do agree that it wasn’t necessary to add that into the play but lets not act like this was a PRIVATE moment that she told lexi in confidence and lexi exposed her. While it *does* overlook Cassie's privilege (or at least tries to show that Cassie overlooks her privilege), it definitely highlights those moments when people try to tell you your problems don't matter because, 'people are starving in 3rd world countries,' which can be devastating if you're seriously hurting.

You can totally disagree with my statement that both of them are addicts as a method to cope with trauma. But at least get awareness of this approach where we compare who has it worse over compare what people have in common, especially 2 women.

Cassie’s mom is very neglectful and I never got why people liked her…? I guess cause she had some funny one liners but she was never that emotionally there for her daughters and didn’t really distill self respect into Cassie. She often encouraged her dates and hook ups with guys And just never got her daughters the council they needed. She often drank and not much more, it was clear she needed help too and maybe it could’ve been a step that they all could’ve did together but saying your daughter “needs a fucking exorcism” while knowing she is very suicidal is not helping. It was important to note that she definitely knew Cassie had a habit of hurting herself otherwise she wouldn’t have tried to hide those knives from her and all the reactors laughing at Cassie while trying to do this just cause she’s irritating wasn’t cute either. Cassie isn’t some terrible person despite her many flaws so laughing at her suffering as an audience was never cool to me.

At first, I was really annoyed by Cassie in season 2. I thought she was behaving so immaturely, bordering on childish. But then I realized... she is a child. And I actually appreciated a show showing a teenager BE a teenager. Your hormones are going insane in high school, you don't think rationally, you think everything in your life is how it will always be. If you have a relationship that ends, you think "I'll never love anyone again" -- and that is how Cassie behaved. She was so desperate to be what Nate wanted her to be, she gave up everything about herself from season one. That isn't unheard of. I don't think she changed, fundamentally, but she made an unconscious choice to be different to try to get what she thought she wanted. She didn't think about who she'd hurt, because teenagers don't when they're so caught up in things like this.
She actually reminds me a lot of her namesake in Skins. That Cassie is the same sort of naive-seeming sweet character who is just good at being there for others, but she has this whole other thing going on inside, and she finally breaks.
I also like the concept that not everyone has to be likeable all the time. You were saying you really liked Cassie before and you didn't in season two.. that's good. That's realistic. Nobody is likeable all the time. She's in a phase. She has tantrums because she's a teenage girl who hasn't processed or even understood her trauma. I think these decisions for her were deliberate and well-executed, and I look forward to seeing how she is in season 3.

The streets say that the reason it seemed to have come out of nowhere is because the arc was initially written to have Jules dealing with her feelings with Nate while also doing things with Nate and their relationship would have both Maddy and Rue involved and absorbed by it especially with Maddy having the tape.
However, due to a number of rumored reasons, none of which are actually confirmed, the arc didn’t come out with Jules and Cassie was written in as the stand-in for it which is why Cassie does a complete 180 and Jules does as well because even Jules cheating with Elliot makes far more sense and works far better if it’s with Nate since she realized in therapy she still did have feelings with him despite how horrific she is.

Same, it's like the idea of her having relationship trauma regarding love or friendships didn't even cross her family's mind ????? She was literally collapsing after her affair with Nate came out. It's kinda weird how Lexi and her mother just judged her (emphasis on JUST, bc what she did was wrong for many reasons and they should help her to get that) and would not try to understand her side of the story, what was going on with her, why did she make those choices given the larger context, etc. I don't remember if they knew about the abortion or not, but if they did ?????? Wtf honestly Cassie needed more support in that moment. Maybe she got extra attached to Nate because their relationship, as flawed as it was, was the only thing she could lean on emotionally after everything that happened to her. It makes it a bit more understandable if you look at it that way.

But, it’s a parents job to support your children and love them and guide them, ESPECIALLY when they make mistakes. Cassie is a literal child still who’s been through so much trauma and the reality is that there’s a lot of traumatized teenagers who have acted the same way. Cassie is such a complex character who happens to my favourite but I find her extremely irritating in season two, especially with the Cassie-Nate-Maddy storyline and I truly think that Maddy should be like “I forgive you but I’m not gonna be your friend.” because that’s such a healthy trope that I haven’t personally seen much of in tv (think of how Peyton didn’t really deserve Brooke in One Tree Hill). but I’d love to see this. All while understanding Cassie’s need for love and validation as an affect of her childhood trauma.. and I relate to her. On another note, Lexi was out of line with her play typically with the carousel scene, for Lexi to exploit a moment of complete vulnerability of Cassie like that isn’t even justified by Lexi feeling in her shadow. I understand Lexi’s frustration with living in her sisters shadow but this could have been fixed through communication if Cassie was to be like “actually my life isn’t perfect and I have problems too.”. Cassie being popular, physically attractive and being in many relationships isn’t something that will make her happy and also comes with its problems but it’s overlooked by her own sisters jealousy.

A big gripe i have with cassie's nude/sexual scenes in euphoria is that they could have actually used the excessive amount of it in a really interesting way that would up her storyline even more. Like, we see Rue doing a lot of drugs, we see a quite raw portrayal of what drug addiction does to a family and everything like that, and we as an audience are almost like tested to still have compassion, and still have empathy for her despite really bad things she does. Cassie's excessive nudity could have been used like that, a way to test the audience to have compassion for her, and still be able to view her as a human deserving of respect and decency and autonomy despite being shown in a sexual light quite a lot. That, in my opinion, would have made for a brilliant use of the nudity, given a smart edge to the shock value of it and would have made the show a bit more meta in a sense. But uhh they didnt, and it shows.

You’re right about them not giving us enough insight into her head space. Every single one of her conflicts/scenes is about Nate. The end of her arc at Season 1 is her trying to learn to be alone, then suddenly in Season 2 she’s fucking Nate just because he gave her a little attention. The only non-Nate conflict she had before the final arc was an off screen argument with her sister. Was that argument really enough for her to run into the arms of Nate?
If she’d had an onscreen conflict with Maddie early on or had struggled with literally anything else that we could see it would have made more sense for her to be so vulnerable in that situation.

Season 2 felt like a completely different show to me. The only thing that carried over was Rue’s addiction arc and general character traits and they brought her down a path that was just kinda outlandish and for the shock factor. Maddy’s character stayed fairly consistent aside from her as a babysitter not feeling believable but then again Maddy was never a full fleshed character just another manifestation of the spicy Latina trope. Overall I felt all the characters were dumbed down which is kinda insane because as you see more of a character you should be getting more depth but it was the opposite. I feel that Cassie’s internal motivations stayed pretty consistent between seasons but her external motivations, actions, responses and emotional expression felt far too drastically different especially when there wasn’t anything I can pinpoint as a catalyst for such an extreme change. When I watched the first season I thought it was pretty good but hoped that season 2 would be more character driven and less about shock value but we got the opposite. I think it’s very unlikely that season 3 will be able to redeem the show because it would need to connect the plot lines of late season 2 to the things that captivated the audience in season 1 and within this production bubble of Sam Levinson trying to do it all himself it seems near impossible to accomplish that

Watching season 2 as an adult (mid/late) 20s, i just felt sad and disappointed for Cassie but completely understood the character arc.
This teen has no one around her to actually slow her down and she needs help, but the only way for her (in Cassie's mind) to get it is to escalate. Writing a good character doesn't always equal writing a proactive and healthy character, which is what most people wanted for her. We all want the health Cassie but a sudden health and wellness arc with her going to therapy doesn't really make sense if everyone around her isn't in that headspace.
I hope in season 3 that she starts to get that arc, but Cassie's breakdown did make sense as a character and did show a realistic portrayal of the people around her (except Lexi writing a play, what wasn't but could be equated to cyber bullying)

I think that Cassie is one of the most complex and interesting characters in Euphoria. She can be deeply analysed from a psychological perspective. I loved her in season 1 but by season 2 I started to despise her. Loads of people give reasons why she acts a certain way but there is the other spectrum where people outright defend what she did. They would make excuses for sleeping with her best friend's abusive ex and will always bring up Maddy's errors to make Cassie seem like a better person. ABSOLUTELY NO!
Even though i despised Cassie in season 2, she had every right to whoop Lexi's ass after she included the carousel scene. In that scene, Cassie was high and she embarrassed herself but she wasn't really harming anyone. Lexi was just being petty.

Actually I was shocked that this scene went viral with this narrative plus with the #teamMaddie. Making a scene because of Lexi and the carousel thing was totally valid in my opinion and the fact that Maddie hit her like a trashy cartoon character was just pathetic. Yes bad but Cassie's intention was "I need to get this actress to stop because it's humiliating". I think Cassie would have backed down if the actress left by herself."
      - So you're telling me that pulling someone's hair isn't the same as hitting her? i swear pulling someone's hair is sometimes much more painful than hitting to be honest. You're acting as if Cassie did nothing to the actress, yet she was screaming and she seemed to be in pain. Also Cassie was being a c*nt to absoluetly everyone in that scene.
"But Maddie intention was to beat Cassie up. She ran on stage, chased her, to slap her and when Cassie again tried to run away again, Maddie chased her and slammed her head against a wall. One girl got physical because of desperation to stop something, and the other got physical because she got angry."
      - As she should??? Cassie straight up lied to Maddy, refused to fix their friendship when Maddy wanted to talk things out, started wearing the necklace Nate gave her, bragged about stealing "jake from martha" on stage and called her a c*nt. You're minimising Maddy's hurt and make it seem like she was having a temper tantrum.
"You could say Maddie was trying to get Cassie off of the actress, but Cassie ran way. So job done, right ? But Maddie continued to chase after her.Did you notice Cassie never hit Maddie back even once? She should have at least tried to defend herself."
      - You're forgetting one little detail: Maddy was genuinely trying to be the bigger person until that happened. When Cassie chickened out and refused to open the door, Maddy tried to see it from her boss' POV, had to watch Nate and Cassie everywhere together and still held her tongue, watched as Lexi portrayed their friendship and overall held her tongue during the whole ordeal. The only moment she snapped was when Cassie brought up her relationship with Nate on stage. That's when Maddy snapped. When she saw that Cassie was being violent and had no remorse in what she did to Maddy that's when she hit her. Other than that, Maddy was really trying to be the bigger person. Also, Cassie is a coward and can’t fight. That's why she run like a chicken when Maddy chased her.

This does not excuse her behavior but it could explain alot of her actions. I find that people see everything as just black and white specially when it comes to Maddy and Cassie. I dont think Cassie ment to hurt Maddy intentionally. I think Cassie is so obsessed with the idea of being in love and being loved. Shes in her own world where reality of the situation dosent exsists or its just not hitting her. The attention / love she gets is kinda like a drug for her. I also think Cassie got humiliated alot while everyone else doing just as horrible things got out with no consequences. I thought the show would end with her character comitting. ngl. I didnt relate to Maddy alot cus her and i have oppisite personalities but Maddy is such a strong character. It really shows how people deal with trauma differently.

It makes sense to me.
I do understand the anger by the play, that she had. However... at the same time, like with showing other people's lives, it's to given them perspective on how they act, how they seem, from another person's eyes. Lexi did let her anger and resentment for her sister, get the better of her, but what Cassie said to her, wasn't nice either. So... I kind of get both sides.

i think part of why cassie's family is making fun of her when she's like threatening to hurt herself, is that she seems to just be making a scene. like if cassie wanted to actually hurt herself, why would she use a corkscrew? idk if it was the topic being poorly handled or if it was supposed to be cassie just trying to get her family to feel bad for her in the situation by pretending she was gonna hurt herself. her distress seemed real to me, but her intention to hurt herself did not seem super genuine. to me it seems like when i'm not su!cidal but i'm like 'i wanna die', as opposed to when i actually wanna d!e...and as someone with bipolar i think i have somewhat of an insight into the character, but i think there was a more subtle way to pull off what they did with her....but to be honest, the original plot for season 2 was gonna be nate getting with jules but they had to not do that cause jacob and hunter hate each other and that would have made a LOT more sense

What I really find funny, is that the writer of this show is shit at his job. Season 1 was only good because it was setting things up, introducing characters and explaining backstories. They even gave a special intro to each character.
Cassie especially feels totally different and unlikeable in season two. She becomes insufferable, selfish and entitled, and even psychotic. Season two basically uses her to sexualize her or to create more convoluted drama the season was lacking otherwise.
And yet some people try to bend and twist the interpretation saying that Cassie is actually a really deep and complex character whose sudden fundamental change in personality is justified by her trauma and something like that. The thing is, maaaybe this could've worked if the writers actually cared to use Cassie's POV or her thought process but no. We see her all season yet we never get to understand her or her motivations or reasons to do what she does. It just comes off as poor writing.

I actually kind of always saw Cassie as a victim than most people say. Not saying what she did to Maddie was okay it wasn’t. However in both season 1 and 2 Cassie have lots of silent cries for help and her self centered friends didn’t notice. Plus Maddie and Cassie don’t seem like much of best friends to me. Maddie and Kat are more best friends. Plus Maddie had to have known how horribly Nate talked about Cassie in season one and yet still dated him.

Even Nate's dad knew what his son did and he was trying to teach Nate how to cover up abusive behaviour.....THAT IS WRONG...VIOLENCE IS VIOLENCE...not some lame excuse

Sadly a lot of the nudity, the situations and constant reminders are meant to make the viewer's uncomfortable.
We've gotten to a point where kids are so so available, no one talks to their children about safety, mental health and with teens there is how to be safe in relationships so if you do end up with an abusive boy/girlfriend you can have open conversations with your parents, and even then try teaching your teens about sexual health and how to better be relaxed and ready on their first time so girls have less pain, and a few less tears or abrasions because they can get relaxed enough to enjoy the fist time or what both need to do to be okay the first time.
How many teen boys still think girls should be on birth control all the time? It's really hard how the world for teens is now.

I disagree with the fact that season 2 Cassie is a character assassination. I've seen women like that, women who are not able to be single, and will do ANYTHING (except self respect) to be with any men. They would throw anyone under the bus for a man and always "fall in love" with them when actually they have no idea what love is and have a deep deep problem and a pathological need to get attention from men.
Cassie has always been this girl, we knew it from season 1. She went for Nate just because he's a man nothing else yeah he's a bad person and they don't match but she don't care. She just NEED a man

Coming back a few months later to say that: to me, the way Cassie vs Kat/Jules/Maddy were treated by the writing this season is like. Imagine you’ve been craving pizza for months and you finally go out to a restaurant and order a pizza, and you’re real excited about it. But then, instead of giving you your pizza, the waiter just brings out a bowl of soup. And at first you’re like, alright, not my favorite but I don’t have nothing against soup, it’s still good food. But then the waiter drops his pants, and makes you watch as he takes a nasty shit in that soup, then spit a snot rocket in it. While occasionally throwing you bites of pizza rolls that aren’t cooked properly. Like, I didn’t get my pizza, and now I just feel really bad for the soup and wish I didn’t watch that happen.

at 24:14 when you said cassie has never been a bad sister - i think you missed their entire relationship on screen? cassie has always been self-absorbed like back in season 1 when she asks lexi if she's looking different and lexi asks if it was about daniel, cassie snaps at lexi saying it wasn't, prompting lexi to go off at her. there's also the beginning of season 2 when she meets nate outside a convenient store before they go to the party together. lexi is worried sick at the party asking if anyone has seen cassie because allegedly they had an arguement in the car earlier and cassie has stormed off. i thought that was childish of her to make her younger sister worried like that. and if lexi's play is 100% accurate there was a reenactment of when lexi first hit puberty or about to and was excited to grow breasts but cassie completely diminished her hope. in all saying this, lexi's play is still a low blow though, and i'm not defending her character in anyway, just that cassie is definitely not a good sister or friend.

To me that kind of sounds like an exaggeration kdjfkj Siblings fight a lot and coexisting in the same house or room can be hell. I'm speaking from personal experience. It's easier to be occasionally rude to your family if you're in a bad mood (not that it's a good thing, but still it doesn't necessarily make you a shitty relative imo, specially in such a broken home like theirs.)

Cassie and Nate were not dating. They were screwing. I don't think he publicly acknowledge her until they went to the play together. That is not "dating". They first hook up in a parking lot, she's had a fight with (I think) Lexi, and didn't go to the party with everyone else. And I don't think we get told what that argument was?
