Great video and I thought I would need to do this,, but CHECK THE SPEED CONTROL FIRST!!! Your stated check to see if smoke is coming out of the oil fill when running and mine did not. All the smoke pouring out looked the same and wouldn't stop. I then thought check the speed selector. It was off very little and moving from the rabbit to the snowflake, but very very little. I pulled it back a little when running and the smoke vanished. Runs fine and just finished mower the yard and no problems. Hopes this may help someone else before have to do the major repair.
Wow that one was quite tricky to figure out. But with your persistence and patience you got it up and running quite well. Great tips for us. Thanks for the video.
Sears service came out changed head gaskets one time said they were just cardboard gaskets then said he was gonna put good ones on it. Then the same 24hp Briggs last year started smoking, took it apart and one compression ring was broke into three pieces, all this in less than 500hrs, now it runs good, I bought this mower in 2007. Briggs just makes cheap stuff, now I have 3 other tractors with Kohler Pro Command. Good job on your Briggs
i just traded some work from my buddy for this same mower and about same dirtiest. must have got a bale of hay when said and done. Same issue. has 190 hours run time was about to list it for 300 but now shes gonna get fixed! mower cuts, drives and mows real well just smokes like a coal train! Thanks for the video.
NICE TO HAVE YOU AS MY NEIGHBOR TO STOP OVER , VISIT , GIVE YA A HAND AND SHARE MECH/ELECT. KNOWLEDGE OVER COFFEE...COFFEES ON ME..LIKE MINE STRONG...TAKE CARE AND BE SAFE EVERYONE !!
So it was not the head gasket. Same problem after as before. You said it would only run on full choke, so starving for gas. So then looked at carb, because the other usual culprit for gas starvation is fuel pump which you previously replaced. The trouble is that you're not aware of the MASSIVE failure rate of those cheap knock-off Amazon fuel filters. The diaphragm in them ruptures very easily even when new and causes all these symptoms when they allow gas to leak back into the crankcase. Like overfilled oil which you mentioned. What you saw was actually the gas added to the oil, which will make it smoke, run rough, then not start as more & more gas is leaked. The other likely culprit is that tiny O-ring in the center of the carb wears out, allowing gas to leak thru the carb. Both fixes can be done for $25 in parts and less than an hour's time. Would have saved a lot of time & money here.
Well I change 3 hours but I do both sides or I don’t work on it plus I lap valves also If carb needs cleaning it 45 minutes more which includes oil& filter change
Got a rider that was gonna be scrapped. Same v twin it’s blowing oil out muffler and dipstick tube. Assuming it’s head gasket too. One cylinder is 115psi and other cyl is 140psi should I still go after head gasket? Going to look into the crankcase breather today after I get the flywheel off.
WITH ANYTHING IT ALWAYS SEEMS OVER WHELMING....BUT THE SECOND TIME AROUND IS MUCH FASTER AND YOU HAVE MUCH CONFIDENCE...AND EVEN MORE SO THE 3RD ,4TH TIME....ITS ONLY A MACHINE.....YOU HAVE ALL OF THE "BRAINS ".......YOUR IN CHARGE MATE !!
I have the Husqvarna lgt2554 with Kohler 25HP. I bought it new in 2011. It's been a great mower. I tune it up yearly. This year, it was running very badly, would only run with the choke on. It didn't smoke at all, but just was running terrible. My mechanic said he will do a leak down test, and it may need both sides valves job, head gaskets. He will do both sides for $300. Does this sound like the problem, similar to yours? Thank you, John.
My Husky 2454 Intek 24hp has white/bluish smoke and is hard to turn over. It sounds like it has too much compression or something. But it runs fine once going. Any suggestions? Great channel and videos btw
Mine cranks . Not a gas issue not a fuel pump or fuel filter .not the spark it has compression and I rebuilders the carb I still can’t get it to turn over.
I can NOT stand those WORTHLESS Plastic Manifolds. I had to modify the base of the manifold where the breather mounts due to warpage of the plastic. It seems to be a common issue with those types of manifolds. I prefer the older Metal manifold. Finding one is dang near impossible now, even on eBay.
old vid i know. but white smoke is not oil.. its fuel .. rich running.. blue is oil smoke. just tossin it out there. a before run would have been cool to see. but anyways old video

Great video. Love that you shared the entire process. Not always as easy as we think it's going to be for sure. 👍
Great Fix !!! She is smoke free ! Enjoyed the video.
THANK-YOU VERY MUCH FOR YOUR TIME,EFFORT AND KNOWLEDGE....NO DISRESPECT TO ANYONE BUT DROP THE ACID MUSIK....WE ALL MUCH RATHER HEAR YOU TALK SIR !!

Yep, that was a tricky one!
I’m having a leaky oil husqvarna lawn tractor problem too. I haven’t diagnosed it yet but I’ll definitely check the carburetor for leaks!
Im working on a John Deere with the same problem...same engine

what was the torque for the head bolts and setting the push rod lifter adjustments what was the feeler guage spec ?
Great video, hope you've updated to a battery powered impact by now. They are the best.
Can you share the torque for the head bolts and the feeler gauge specs you used?
why would oil be leaking from the intake manifold? isn't it suppose to be an air/gas mixture?

Your having carb issues. I know that rumbling a mile away. I keep 4 of those Rebuilt carbs on hand at all times.

What are the torque specs for the flywheel and the valve cover?
Going to tackle same mower same problem appreciate what to. Look for as I go
I hope it helps you.
How long did it take you to replace the head gaskets?
If I could ask anyone what are the torque specs? For the engine and carburator?
nice job good video
Excellent video and great job.
Thanks!
add a link to your cleaning solution buddy
Great video!
I v been putting a red filter between fuel pump and carb
Thanks for you video.
You bet👍
How much do you charge for labor for a job like this one.?🤔
Well I change 3 hours but I do both sides or I don’t work on it plus I lap valves also
If carb needs cleaning it 45 minutes more which includes oil& filter change
Those dam intake gaskets or AllWAYS leaking, install new ones every time, use spray to find leak Sir
You'd think they'd buy a commericial grade mower after getting that one fixed so many times.

Check the head gasket, but if it is blowing out of the dipstick tube there might be a lot of blowback. It might be the piston rings.
Would the gasket set be the same for a yth26v54?
I would have had a nervous breakdown. You did stay calm
What happens when you add to much oil besides it smoking
Looks like the exact engine
where you live do you have any problems with those tractors getting vapor lock . if so how did you solve the problem
vapor lock usually caused by gas getting into the cylinder and can even fill up the crank case...usually caused by needle/seat leaking
If needle pressure tested it could be inside carb like oring leaking
Electric fuel pump will usually stop that vapor problem

It sounds like it is running rich, which could be a carb cleaning and possibly a valve job. If it needed a head gasket, it would be smoking.
it’s probably just the carb getting dirty
My Husky 2454 Intek 24hp has white/bluish smoke and is hard to turn over. It sounds like it has too much compression or something. But it runs fine once going. Any suggestions? Great channel and videos btw
I think I would check the valves. If it is still gives white smoke, might be a head gasket.
Check for the compression release few good videos on it common issue i believe.
85% of my business was head gaskets and carbs
Carb repair is still all the time now due to poor gas
Mine cranks . Not a gas issue not a fuel pump or fuel filter .not the spark it has compression and I rebuilders the carb I still can’t get it to turn over.
Valves need adjusting
Could be compression release or bad battery or starter
PATIENCE...PATIENCE !!....AND YOU WILL WIN THE DAY !!
If you replaced that fuel filter and left the motor that dirty that head gasket is on you and the owner for not cleaning
You have to sit on the sweet spot and use the brake as you turn it on my lawn mower runs like that its a Husqvarna YTH20V46

Those plastic ones will definitely warp.
Very true but I got several
Put a Kohler 7000 series Engine in and problem solved
Lol I just blew a head gasket on a Kohler 7000 seris
@@jeffr3744 sorry to here that all Engine blow head gasket and 9 times out of 10 it's the owners fault its called poor maintenance
No it’s over heating of engine due to high temp day or dirty air fins
👍
old vid i know. but white smoke is not oil.. its fuel .. rich running.. blue is oil smoke. just tossin it out there. a before run would have been cool to see. but anyways old video
Mr DIY: Ya'll really need a pressure washer. Your wife could do without something special till you make life easier.
What is the torque spec on the head bolts and where did you find the gasket kit?
Also what is the valve clearance?
What did you charge for this job?
Great video!
