    Thanks for great information! In Sweden we have had (and are having) the driest and warmest summer in over 200 years and have a total fire ban in most of the country. No open fires at all. Not even gas stoves. And still it's legal to smoke in the woods...

    No fire ban in my area of MT at this time, but it's so dry that I'm not driving my ATV across my land or using my tractor and Brushhog to cut grass (in case the blade hits a rock). I need to trim the lower branches of my firs and pines up off the ground to protect them. It's just being aware, even if no ban is in effect.

    Great info about fire bans. When we were planning our trip to Colorado I remembered all the times you mentioned fire bans in your videos, so I kept a constant eye on the reports. We lucked out when the ban was lifted the week before our trip! Thanks so much for raising awareness of fire bans!

    The shovel is HUGE...you would be amazed how many of the human caused fires could've been easily put down if you had a shovel handy. Things happen, unexpected things and some quick shoveling is a super effective tool to preventing disaster

    Go to a appliance dealer that repairs and buy a stainless steel washtub out of a junk washer or dryer. usually you can buy one for less than 30.00 dollars. Put it up on brick or concrete blocks. Light shines out of all the holes and makes some neat patterns. xo xo

    Tammy when find the time you should stop in your local tractor dealer. They may have a old wheel they are throwing out. Old tractor wheels make great fire rings. Hopefully if you go this route you can find a open center style. If not the shop could cut out the center. Old backpack would ideal to collect the rocks you need when out hiking. Thanks for the fire ban lesson.

    Currently we have a fire ban in Texas.
    Flat tires, trailer chains dragging on the asphalt or concrete cause sparks that starts a lot of grass fires.

    Your fire ban issue's are pretty darn stringent there.
    All good if it's that dry.
    But I think it knocks the crap outa of a epic camping adventure.( Most of the year.)
    I love the area,it's beautiful. but the rules are tight. The fact that there is alternatives is great.

    Wow, hefty rules. I'm not saying they are not justified, your fire danger is much higher. It's way more intense than we need to deal with in the Northeast since we get rain weekly (or more often) during the summer.
    Here we have the same 5 step wheel (with Smokey Bear) at every fire station. And on top there is usually a sign that says "permits" or "no permits". We must go to the station and get a permit for every burn, unless you have a "campfire ring" that is inspected by the FD at the beginning of the season. In that case you can just call and tell them you're going to burn.
    And if there's sufficient snow cover we can burn without a permit... but again you're supposed to call the FD and let them know.

    this is interesting, important, and useful information
    my Sister & her husband spend summer and winter in Cordillera which is kind of near Balsalt, cutest town ever
    That Christine Lake fire got started by a couple at a gun range using some kind of bullets that spark (would that constitute explosives? idk)
    I wish there had been a rule/law and signs instructing them not to do that 😏 coz that fire could/should have been avoided
    perhaps it is spelled out in the ban and the couple was ignorant of the it?
    my sister said lots of gun ranges are shut down but that one wasn’t and negligence and/or ignorance has caused needless damage.
    The estimated cost of firefighting thus far is $16.8 million
    p.s. It’s awesome how you live in the forest! I can see myself doing that one day 🤞🏼😊

    • @SpiritForest
      @SpiritForest  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      wow.. $16.8 Million.. that could of totally been avoided.

    Please advise.
    I guess that might not be so bad.

  • @johndavidson6867
    @johndavidson6867 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I think it is "sick" that most of your fires are caused by lightning, as that can't be controlled, but the situation would be much worse without the bans taking the human part of the equation out. I know this is almost a year after the video but the dangers are the year after year to some extent, some times worse sometimes less. It would be disastrous if beautiful Colorado was to burn.

    I live in Central California and there are 20 wildfires burning. I work in the railroad industry and all you see is smoke from these massive fires. Our city's air is bad to begin with because we live in the valley and most of California's fires are man made. They caught a suspect who started the Southern California fire.

    That's the scrawniest excuse for a long-tailed blackbear I've ever seen.
    Fire ban? Yeah, what's going on in Cali right now ought to be enough for people to figure it out. The shovel is so you can backhaul the ashes, after using the extinguisher. If you do not do that, sometimes buried embers burst up and restart the fire.
