This is a great song from a great band and I don't understand why they're not recognized in all their glory. Suede was and stil are a fenomenous band!!!
Orwellian overtones with such an aria of its time. I still get chills watching and listening to this, a great opener to an amazing album, accompanied by powerful visuals, even today. No nostalgia, no halcyon days, just powerful, meaningful art made in a beautiful way. Thank you Suede.
totally agree with you! Stay together , The 2 of us, So young!! Also like a lot Indian Strings and from their last album The fuer and the feathers!! You know what is great about Suede and what make them so unique for sure!!
Suede were an anathema ...a band out of kilter with their time, but yet so modern...the guitars sounded like Bowie a la Mick Ronson Ziggy era....but they had an artistic/fashion verve to match.....they really truly did NOT fit the crude, crass 'Brit Pop' nomenclature many gave them at the time ...no...looking back,.they were altogether something else...far more special, unique....for me, this song represents them at their glorious best.....'we all watch them burn...'
what a TRULY GREAT FUCKING GROUP! they have so many wonderful songs from ( The Living Dead to It Starts And Ends With You) but for some strange reason they could not make it big in the United States.
this clip presented a truly dystopian future with gigantic screens of brett anderson plasterd over skyscrapers, luckily things didnt turn out quite that bleak
Interesting vid though not sure why it was banned. TBH I was never really a fan of this song but really like Dog Man Star, unfortunately it was so out of step with what came immediately after. Shame as its a great though sometimes infuriating record which would probably have been better if Bernard Butler had stuck around to finish it. I would have loved to hear The Asphalt World the way he wanted it.
I am the biggest Bernard Butler fan that you could possibly imagine, but I cannot believe that The Asphalt World could possibly sound better then it did as it did on Dog Man Star, Just my opinion, but I fully understand that Bernard has his.
When Butler left I thought the band may have been shorn of their trade mark sound, but they came back with this amazing song......what a riposte to the doubters!
Their first two albums were simply staggering, who knows how good they might have become if they hadn't fallen to the age old curse of the 'singer/guitarist divorce'...... After Butler left, the spark was gone. Without the sheer drama Butler's music provided, Anderson's lyrics sounded a bit daft, he couldn't carry off his delusions of grubby glamour without Bernard Butler.

My god, the guitar work is absolute brilliance.
One of the greatest songs of the '90s

The most unique and respected band of the 90s
the best
The best band of the 90s!
I disagree but ok
Raj Nirvan: but oh, so underrated. They were overshadowed by Oasis and Blur etc and consequently never reached the heights they deserved.
Wrong on both counts, great band tho
What a guitar! Butler is unique!
One of my top 5 suede songs ever! Forgot how great this is! So Young, Stay Together, Pantomime Horse, this and The 2 of us :-)
what about Aniimal Nitrate, Trash ?
totally agree with you! Stay together , The 2 of us, So young!! Also like a lot Indian Strings and from their last album The fuer and the feathers!! You know what is great about Suede and what make them so unique for sure!!

I know (now!) it is an effect, but Brett's voice sounds massive and extremely rich on this track in especial

Great song. Reminds me of 'Made of Stone' in terms of song structure, plus lyrics. Also both tracks have top solos

britpop golden era
"But deceit can't save you..."
That is the only half-decent line in the whole song.
I actually kinda like the lyrics
Always when i listen to Jack White, i remember this, so great :)
I, for one, welcome our new overlord Brett Brother
PRETTY HARD ROCK
This is my purge song. Hands down.
I can only imagine the shitstorm this music video would cause if it was released nowadays.
1984 ? ?¿ george orwell,,, maybe ???
Exactly. We are the pig. We are all the pig.
don't know why this song makes me think of the book,Lord of the Flies.
Bernard Butler, a genius one

gto0410 “Those who do not remember the past are condemned to repeat it.” -George Santayana

A truly stunning song, with political change in the air, this is poignant (no pun intended.)
2017

2017 ;)
@Karaiq Why?
Wonder if this will get played b4 the olympics..LOL
@jessamike Actually this little gem was created in 1994.
Less than 1 thousand "like"? mmmh

A jigsaw Music video.
poisonous
Impressive song. 32 persons loves reggaeton.. Jajaja, que inútiles.
a brit pop song to become anti brit pop
@Borderminefield cops
I can play guitar like that. NOT.
A lot of people have lost their taste in this type of music now a days people are listening to pop music I do not really like
We will watch them BERN (#berniesanders2016)
Great riffing, soloing and video; but the tune's mediocre and the lyrics stink on ice. Thankfully 'Coming Up' was a comeback of sorts.
