- Jewelry requires very little material. This is a good way to turn a few pennies worth of copper into an item of value. I am not a jeweler, but these simple designs can be done by anyone with just a few tools and some copper scraps.

George, as you know, I have nine granddaughters. This is a terrific idea! Thanks.
great video I love making jewelry from scrap pieces. Suggestion on the earwires use a jumpring between the earwire and the earring piece. it will hang nicer plus you won't have to fight to open the earwire.
Gauge: About 22 gauge. I used 22 gauge because I had a bunch of scrap. From what I have learned from a woman who is a jeweler is that 20 oz, or 22 gauge can be a bit heavy for earrings. 16 oz. or about 25 gauge is better.
You might try roofing shops. They often do gutters, eaves, flashing etc. Even if you bought a 12" x 12" inch piece online, you could get a lot earring out of that. Of course there is always metal recyclers.
Glad you like the videos.
You are a very good instructor. Thank you. I followed your recommendation to get a piece of copper from Amazon and started playing today. I read the comments and put two folds in the long triangle so it looks kind of like a stacked pyramid. Then I threaded a thin piece of wire through the bottom fold to attach a square piece of turquoise that dangles half off the earring. It looks great. I wish I could send you a picture. I don't consider myself creative but a creative side of me is surfacing. I am watching more of your videos!!! Thank you again! Robin
Robin, nothing could make me happier than you discovering that creative streak in yourself. Keep in touch. George
I like your style, George - everything very clear and concise. Well done and thank you.
Thanks for the kind words. Working on a new one that I hope to have up in a day or so.
You are the man, George! What a great video--thank you. I'm a newbie and you've inspired me to get started! Can't wait to view your other videos.
Wow. This is wonderful. I'm installing a copper gutter and have lots of scraps.
Thanks much for making these videos!
Beautiful, simple designs…the flame colouring is gorgeous and really suits these earrings. Thanks for sharing your tips!
Great tutorial, your tips are wonderfull ! I have made some pairs of copper earrings before, but I´m still a begginer, I just discover your videos and I really want to improve, you encourage me to do it.
Thanks George !
So glad I found your channel. Beautiful earrings, this is what I want to do.
Glad that these videos are working out for you. A jeweler suggest that the earrings hang better if using a jump ring. Jump ring to the earring and then the earring hooks to the jump ring.
Very nice and simple to do. Thank you George!
Awesome videos George !!!!!!!!

Copper is sold in oz., gauge and thousands. 16 oz. is 16 oz. per square foot. 16 oz. is about 25 gauge and .0216 thousands of an inch.

Thank-you!!
Cool
Those are really beautiful. Have you considered applying a fold to these before hammering? I would think that the result would be a more ornate piece with organic ripples and bends. Just a thought.
+David Stillwell David, goo idea, I'll have to try that. Thanks for the idea.
You are welcome. Let me know the results.
Just put another earring video up today. More to come in the months ahead.
Bellissimo lavoro e ottime spiegazioni, grazie. Mi piacerebbe vedere come procedi alla lucidatura dei tuoi pezzi, so che è un passo molto importante per la riuscita di un gioiello. Ancora grazie mille.
For clean up on most everything I do I use this wire brush.

George Goehl Grazie mille per la tua informazione.
Hello, can you anneal small pieces copper with a small butane torch? if the copper is thin like 26 gauge will it work?
Ever traveled to Arizona? Pretty sure I know the answer.
IT MIGHT BE EASIER FOR YOU IF YOU USE JUMP RINGS BEFORE YOU ADD THE HOOKS
Good point. I've started adding the jump rings. Thanks for the comment.
Beautiful earrings. And you make creating seem easy. Gotta try. Wondering what gauge sheet copper you used. TFS!
16 oz. and 20 oz. copper. (25-22) gauge
Appreciate and love your videos. I'm just starting to make copper jewellery and wondered if you could tell me the best place to purchase copper sheet.
+Jude Moulsher Best answer to your question is in a video I did on "buying copper". For your convenience, scroll down the list to quickly find the videos you are searching for. gsegmedia.com/?page_id=2877
Is th flame coloring permanent, or will it fade----can you achieve this look with a butane torche as well?
Lynn, the color is permanent if you coat with a clear finish. Copper will tarnish (change color) if it is not protected from the atmosphere. I have no experience with fame coloring with a butane torch, but I think it will probably work with a little practice.
how to file down pierced earring post that are to large to weat
Loved the video. exactly what I've been looking for. what type/brand cutting sheers did u use? and the metal pen, what is that called? thanks so much.
+ndsm17 Thanks, glad that you liked the video. For cutting in this video I was using a pair of Wiss Aviation Shears. For marking, I'm using a metal scribe. You can find both the scribe and the shears at any hardware or builder's supply. Over 160 free videos, gsegmedia.com/?page_id=2877
+George Goehl Awesome. thanks so much.
Nope. Never been to Arizona, Oregon or Hawaii.
Sir, what is the tool you used, the little ruled tool with the liquid leveler in it to get the correct angle for the cuts? I didn't catch the name of it. Slight hearing problem, I'm afraid! Many thanks! These are gorgeous.
It's called a Combination Square. Do a search for a Combination Square and you will find different sizes and different prices. Unless you are doing precision work you do not need an expensive combination square. The one I am using in the video cost about $8.00.
Where do you sell your beautiful copper earrings?
Kim, I do metal sculpture. Which means that I have leftover copper scrap. I make the earrings and other jewelry for family and friends. I don't sell jewelry. I do sell metal sculptures through galleries. www.gsegmedia.com shows a good selection of the meal sculptures that I do. Thanks for viewing.
@@897473 ty for getting back to me George. Beautiful sculptures.
So very nice. What thickness is the copper?
Nancy, I think these were 20 oz. copper. That was the scrap I had at the time. A jeweler friend suggested that 16 oz. would be better; making them lighter in weight. 16 oz. copper / 25 gauge / .0216 (16 oz. is 16 oz. per square foot).
What would be the name for "aviation snip" if i ordered one from the internet plz?
Do a search for wiss aviation snips. Wiss is the brand name.
Gauge: About 22 gauge. I used 22 gauge because I had a bunch of scrap. From what I have learned from a woman who is a jeweler is that 20 oz, or 22 gauge can be a bit heavy for earrings. 16 oz. or about 25 gauge is better.
