    Fun fact: John would have 700 DOTS if he hit his best in all 3 lifts at the same time while weighing what he weighed at his previous competition

    Hey John. Is conventional overhead press part of your routine or something you benefitted from previously?

    • @MHB30
      @MHB30  29 วันที่ผ่านมา +5

      I sometimes throw it in, but don’t notice too much of a carry over to bench. I think it’s important for beginners to do overhead work, though.

    Dude, wtf? Strict pressing almost 300 pounds, no legs, no split jerk is nuts. I dont know the OSG rules, but if you can give even a little knee bend for leg drive on that, it would probably be 350.

    • @Jordanschannel64
      @Jordanschannel64 29 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Any type of press is pretty much always allowed. hopefully he can utilize it well.

    • @ragingmoderate6791
      @ragingmoderate6791 29 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @Jordanschannel64 I'm assuming 350 is quite a bit of an overestimation on my part, but I'd guess he can get at least 25 more pounds with some leg drive in his press. I also made this comment before I saw the part where he comments on how he didn't know why he strict pressed it. I can't wait to see John as OSG.

    Is 3-5g of creatine a day alright no matter what weight you are

    • @MHB30
      @MHB30  28 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yea, that’s a pretty standard dose. If you’re a bigger person, closer to the 5g/day range will be better. If you’re under 150lbs, 3g would probably be sufficient

  • @jameshyatt4857

    intermediate here, my question is it advantageous for his toes to come of the floor and stay in his heels. I have a fear of falling. Seems more posterior dominant. ?

    • @MHB30
      @MHB30  28 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      I’m not really doing it consciously. My body just naturally does that. It’s hard to give an answer if it’s advantageous for an intermediate.

    I don’t understand the purpose of the axle bar deadlift if everyone just uses straps 🤨

    • @owenmorgan9154
      @owenmorgan9154 29 วันที่ผ่านมา +6

      It's a lot stiffer than even a stiff bar so at heavier weights it effects that and the centre of mass is further out from your midfoot since the bar is thicker.

    • @SageModeObito242

      @@owenmorgan9154 ahhh, that actually makes sense thx.

  • @mrcrazysnipez1
    @mrcrazysnipez1 29 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Sooo question
    Why would John use straps when using the axel bar? Wouldn’t that defeat the point of making it hard on the grip??

    • @matthewbrown3123
      @matthewbrown3123 29 วันที่ผ่านมา

      someone else said it in another comment too but the bar is way stiffer than any other bar & the center of gravity is a bit different bc the bar is thicker which makes the lift quite a bit different than a standard deadlift. also in a strongman competition grip would never matter bc they allow straps on standard deadlifts anyway

    • @mrcrazysnipez1
      @mrcrazysnipez1 29 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@matthewbrown3123 so really it’s just about centre of gravity?

    music in the links please. Your lower back looks tired on the bench spot, I imagine from the dead set. It looked to me in that set you are lower back dominant. Erectors of Steel! Keep pushing brother.

  • @limitisillusion7
    @limitisillusion7 28 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Hmmm... Maybe I'll start using the axel bar for higher rep deadlifts. I'd like to stop relying on straps, but I can pull a lot more with them so it might let me keep building strength with the heavy lifts while improving my grip strength.
