      True because Mitchell isn't recovering from a surgery of a muscle that is extremely important when it comes to stabilizing the arm and helping initiate a press because when you arch your back with a log or an axle you're using your chest to help guide the arms so that the shoulder blades can track the rib cage properly. Mitchell is definitely very very strong but I still would agree that Thor is much stronger. Even being post-retirement he's still super strong

      Hooper - after "beating" Thor at the "squat" during SMOE 2024, despite Mitch knowing that Thor is a better squatter, said " WELL - I guess now we know whos the best squatter in the world!".

The gangs use children and teenagers under 15 years of age when they want to murder someone because under 15 the law can't touch you. Remember, Thor was never a bad at pressing, quite the opposite, with a strict log press of 213kg (and I believe could have done 220kg) using little leg drive, something that Mitch relies entirely on

      Not using leg drive is not a badge of honor if you could be lifting more weight with more leg drive. You don't win titles on potential.

    • @Micheldied
      @Micheldied 11 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Saying Mitch relies completely on leg drive is odd, considering his best strict press is 175kg (iirc). I think Thor's best is like 180kg x 2, which is better, but not by an insane margin.

  • @jaakkotyni2342
    @jaakkotyni2342 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    One thing that i think helps overhead pressing is shoulder mobility. If the bar or axle is resting on your upper chest, the leg drive is giving a great momentum to the implement because of the rigid connection from the floor. When the weight is hovering and not touching the chest the acceleration of the leg drive is lost on the soft tissues of the shoulder joint. Also the stiffness in the top position causes problems because you cant stack the weight on your scapula, shoulder, elbow joint and thoracic spine in a vertical line, and that also increases energy expendature specially in long sets. The pulldowns can be a good mobility exercise when you focus on bringing shoulders next to your ears and emphasizing the stretch, also with the opposing grip (palms facing you) you get better external rotation and stretch in the lats. Weightlifters are maybe the best teachers in the front rack mobility and leg drive if there are olympic weightlifting coaches in Iceland.

    I know the pec tear is like a psychological barrier and this is something Louie Simmons and Yuri Verkoshansky address (Supertraining book). Definitely something I worked on myself, as I partially tore my pec minor three times. Doing different things to help prevent thus area from overworking again and changing movement patterns… and the FEAR of reinsuring is REAL. Because it trains your brain to avoid that same movement pattern that got you injured. I hope this insight serves you well and that your coach can find finds to help you overcome that psychological barrier if it’s there
    If not… GO HARD Thor!

    Add to routine: On your strict overhead press- it looks like your struggling pushing your head through. Shoulder and pec mobility will help with that. I think your pressing would benefit from being able to stack the joints better. Perhaps there is limitations in that end range of motion in the shoulder which is caused by both previous injury and muscle tightness. However, i think if you could address it - the shoulder pressing could improve significantly. The improvements could be seen by three areas: 1. ease of access to end range while pressing, 2. better positioning, 3. you're not fighting your own tissue as you go to lock out the press.

    Good to see Hafthor still competing. Would be nice to see him win WSM again.

    A 100% Thor is Better than a 100% Hooper IMO. Kick some arse at Rogue!!

      For static lifts yeah I would give the nod to Thor however moving I would probably go with Hooper. Hooper is also very calculated and consistent. Hooper doesn’t win every event but he typically places in the top 2. That’s why nobody can slip up around Hooper lol…

      Back in the day Thor was the guy to beat at WSM loading races and truck pulls...@@matthewbutler5335

      It depends on the set of events and the rest of the lineup.

      Absolutely. He won most of the events at the SMOE even with his shoulder pressing not being 100%

      yeah but Thor is never getting back to 100% again.

    I worked out you only had to come 4th & 5th in those 2 pressing events at smoe and you would have won. Keep up the good work!

    If I have a spoter like Thor he could clean my max squat to my shoulders easily no need for racks😂

    You should look into Heart and Soil’s bone and joint supplements. They have unique properties that are hard to get in regular foods.

    Much respect to you Thor but I think Mitch Hooper is the best strongman the world has ever seen. You’ll need to get faster to beat him.

    My admittedly ignorant opinion is that thor needs to work on his pressing technique, his deadlift technique is great but with overhead he looks like hes relying much more on his strength than other strongmen like hooper who seemingly use way more leg drive

      Strict pressing is what builds the base. Getting outright numbers will need a push-press. He needs to keep strict pressing as a primary until it's where it needs to be, in the 400 lb range at least.

    Hafthor probably hasn't felt like he's needed to be on his toes in a long time since Hooper came in. Man is pushing Thor to become another type of Mountain
