Patti's pies had me lmao. I know I'm old school and in my personal opinion there will never be music like this again. I feel privileged to have grown up in a time where music was the greatest. I am thankful that we have these treasures to replay over and over again. Great review again you guys 😁
One of the best songs written by composer Burt Bacharach with lyricist Carole Bayer Sager. For those not in the know, Bacharach was also responsible for composing classics like I Say A Little Prayer, Walk On By, Close To You, The Look Of Love, Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head, Anyone Who Had A Heart, That's What Friends Are For, What The World Needs Now Is Love, Do You Know The Way To San Jose, I'll Never Fall In Love Again, etc, etc. He died earlier this year at the age of 94.
One of the greatest duets ever! You would never know that they recorded their vocals on two different coasts. They were never in the studio together! Please check out another hidden gem Patti Does with Floetry “Hear My Cry”.
They’re adorable in the video! Mike is beloved in the R&B world- he’s duetted with many. My fave is him and James Ingram singing “ Ya Mo B There”! No reactor has done that classic yet! Be the first!
Wooooo CHILE if you don't get that try to be afro off yo head. They are allowed to mimic YOUR natural hair and get away with it not the other way around. One them "us" catch you on the street with that up there it's all over.
@@Steve-cm2ys oooohh Chile- you poor poor deprived creature! Guess you’ve never been around a Jewfro which is what this girl sports. Can’t do anything with it. You can have it if you want it that bad- I just have to SHAVE the dang thing off! 😂
This is one of my absolute favorite duets of all time. And I just read the story of how they met-! They didn't even meet until the song hit Billboard 100! They filmed on opposite sides of the country. Wow- SO AMAZING! This song is beyond powerful and strong.
Patty's notes have perfect shape and tone, and she can climb the ladder with virtually minimal effort. She worked super ,super hard to control such a powerful voice.Bravo!!!
Philadelphia native Patti LaBelle, and St. Louis native Michael McDonald, together in a duet. "On My Own" was a huge hit, spending three weeks at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the summer of 1986.
This is an awesome song. They are such a good duo. Another great duo I think y'all would really love is Johnny Mathis and Deniece Williams singing "Too much too little too late" from around 78 when I was in high school.
I worked security at a show for Patti LaBelle a couple of months ago...she's still got that voice and high spirit performance. She was very entertaining.
Song still gives me chills, especially the end where their voices blended so perfectly together. Another great breakup song is Hard Habit to Break by Chicago. 👍👍👍
I lost a dear friend who I grew up with this year. It broke my heart. This song brings back good times and the laughter and beauty of those memories. I'm devestated.
❤❤❤ Thank you Thank you !!! I LOVE this song so much !! If you have not watched the official video I cannot tell you how good that is too, maybe you were watching it !!?? Asia even got her arms up higher on this one !! LOL Goosebumps as usual with this one !!
Lhm the voices on these two! Heaven. And I saw both your faces when Michael chimed in. So beautifully unique. Edited... omg you said Patty's pies! I freaking love her sweet potato pie. Nobody does them better.
Every now and again, 2 legendary vocalists will come together to collaborate on a song and I swear, it comes out like catching lightning in a bottle. Awesome song and reaction
Simply one of the best duets ever. Two unique but totally different voices, that sound incredible together. Fun fact: This duet was out and became a huge hit way before they ever sang the song together. Well after the songs release, Patti LaBelle & Michael Mc Donald finally met each other for the first time and sang together for the first time on the Johnny Carson show.
This is a cover Dionne Warwick made this song a year earlier. It came to Patti as a solo song. She decided it should be a duet and she chose Michael McDonald, both artist biggest song of their careers.
Hey there Asia & BJ, Now you're cooking with gas!!! This classic is performed by a top tier & top notch duet that blended this song into an absolute "MASTERPIECE!!!"
With Patti LaBelle, Diana Ross, Tina Turner, Chaka Khan and the list goes on was a magical time for music. And then they put Michael McDonald together with Patti LaBelle was pure heaven.
1 of the great ballads in the 1980s. 👩🎤👨🎤 Suggested videos 📹: 1 Patti Labelle sings New Attitude. 2 Toto and Michael McDonald perform I'll Be Over You.
If my memory is correct, Patti started out recording the song as a solo effort but did not like the results. She told Burt Bacharach she felt something was missing, and they decided to add a male voice. Initially, they wanted James Ingram bur he wasn't able to do it. Enter Michael McDonald and the rest is history. This happened almost forty years ago but that's what I think I remember hearing Patti say in an interview. I happen to love Patti's voice and pies too...........lol. Great commentary...........thanks for sharing!
Great reaction guys, another great duet is “Tell him” by Barbara Streisand and Celine Dion. Please watch the video of them together. It’s AMAZING 🎶🎶💕💕🦋
The reason Patti and Michael got together was because of their record company. They suggested the idea. In the seventies and eighties duets was massively popular. It was almost a guaranteed hit when two big singers did duets. Other great duets from those two decades include Roberta Flack with Donny Hathaway. James Ingram with Patti Austin. Phil Collins with Amy Grant. Lionel Ritchie with Diana Ross. But my favorite was James Ingram with Tamia and their song How Do You Keep The Love. That song is the best duet song of all time next to the Mariah Carey and Whitney collab.
You are so right there when you say there There is nothing left to say. Patty and Michael left it all out there on the screen and on the tape. Even more interesting to know that they were nowhere near each other when they recorded it.
Asia & BJ I just love watching you guys. You always add a smile to my day. And thank you for sharing this song with Patti and Michael. What a great song it was and still is. It brought back some dear memories. Peace and love you two. Have a great & blessed day. ❤❤💘💘❤😉😉😉
Now I've got to go find a place other than my computer to go listen to this. Her vocals are so great these speakers don't cut it. And his vocals at the end of the word marriage.
To add a little on the history of this song, Pattie always admired Michael McDonald and The same with Michael McDonald admiring Pattie. She always wanted to do a song or duet with Michael McDonald. Prior to the song and during the recording of the video they had never personally met each other until later on after Pattie’s album hit the charts.
One of those all-time great songs that HAS to be recognized as a musical "standard." In layman's terms, it's an example that teaches an artist how "sht is done." Apologies for my wording, but it damn sure ain't no lie. Whoever came up with the idea to put these two together is pure genius.
Btw, I love the time of day y'all usually post. I've got a wee buzz going, and y'all just help me unload all my stress. With your music, but moreover, your personalities.
A song written by two legendary songwriters, sung by two legendary singers, with legendary musicians playing the arrangement. Steller and perfection is what we got back then cause steller and perfection was what was expected.
I love, Love, LOVVVVE Patti!! I remember her when she sang with her sisters, back in the day---they were called "LaBelle", and they wore wild outfits, like spacesuits!! I also remember going to see Eddie Murphy in "Beverly Hills Cop", and wouldn't leave until I heard Patti sing "Stir it Up", all the way, through, during the end credits---then, when I purchased the video, I 'bout wore it out, rewinding and listening to Patti, a million times, at the end!! ❤️
This was recorded in separate locations. They never met each other until the awards show when they received the award for song of the year
True. Apparently Michael recorded it first and sent it to Patti with the lyrics. She took it and sang along with it and turned out a masterpiece.
Mike subsequently sang with her in person on his own special “Michael McDonald and Friends” along with Loggins, Ingram, David Pack and many more.
Patti's pies had me lmao. I know I'm old school and in my personal opinion there will never be music like this again. I feel privileged to have grown up in a time where music was the greatest. I am thankful that we have these treasures to replay over and over again. Great review again you guys 😁
Yes. 💯 %
Always on point!
Same. 💜🤘
I was just talking about how I can never find Patti’s pies in Walmart by me
Thank you for playing this duet! So High up touching angelic voices!!

Wow David. I never knew that. That is so cool. And yet they made pure magic with this song. 😯❤❤❤❤😉😉😉
A superb deep vibe that hits home!
I love Hear My Cry !
You are so correct David, I LOVE THAT SONG"
It was a brilliant artistic decision. A couple splitting up singing the song miles apart…
This song is THE groove. Miss Patti and Michael are smooth as silk together 💕
hello.. this song brought me back in the day. Old school.smooth as cream 🍨 People was living then.Cant say that now....
ok

‘Ya Mo B There’ was huge at the time. It’s amazing that it’s ignored nowadays. I’m not strong on a lot of chart music, but Ioved that song.
@@Steve-cm2ys oooohh Chile- you poor poor deprived creature! Guess you’ve never been around a Jewfro which is what this girl sports. Can’t do anything with it. You can have it if you want it that bad- I just have to SHAVE the dang thing off! 😂
Mine too❤

What a fantastic choice
Michael McDonald's voice is like butter, so smooth, what a great combination with Patti.
Michaels voice is so soothing and patty has possibly more range than any other singer and can just stun you with it!
Its fun to watch the younger generations appreciate the same music you grew up on years ago.
One of the best duets ever. Written by two of the most iconic composers. Carole Bayer Sager and Burt Bacharach ♥
RIP Burt Bacharach, music genius 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🎹🎹🎹
One of the most powerful duets in music. Their voices complement each other. Fantastic for Patti and Michael. Thank you for this reaction. 😊👏🇨🇦
Couldn't agree more!
I worked security at a show for Patti LaBelle a couple of months ago...she's still got that voice and high spirit performance. She was very entertaining.
Flawless. Both. Flawless! We were blessed ...this is the music my generation lays claim to. We own this!!
Michael McDonald has a great unique voice and Patti can sing the phone book and make it sound perfect
I was fortunate to have lived my adolescence entirely in the 80’s …songs like this evoke such special feelings✨
I forgot how crazy good they sounded together. Always love when Patti throws her shoes off, then it is showtime.
Beautiful and yet heartbreaking at the same time. One of my favorite songs!
Song still gives me chills, especially the end where their voices blended so perfectly together. Another great breakup song is Hard Habit to Break by Chicago. 👍👍👍
Indeed on Hard Habit to Break 💔
They are like two perfectly tuned instruments.
I lost a dear friend who I grew up with this year. It broke my heart. This song brings back good times and the laughter and beauty of those memories. I'm devestated.
You should hear Linda Ronstadt and Aaron Neville their duets are awesome too
Two angels singing together. Not much else to say.💕
I love Patti LaBelle SO much! So underrated, I feel.
Like Anita Baker as well. Overshadowed by Mariah and Whitney. Too good to lose them.
Kudos to whoever had a hand in making this song. Bringing the two of them together is almost perfection.
100% Steve
This song is amazing with those two singing together, great voice blending. Fantastic duet. Great reaction, Thank You
Two icons. Unbelievably beautiful. How they recorded this is incredible. Thank you for sharing. I LOVE your responses. 💜
❤❤❤ Thank you Thank you !!! I LOVE this song so much !! If you have not watched the official video I cannot tell you how good that is too, maybe you were watching it !!?? Asia even got her arms up higher on this one !! LOL Goosebumps as usual with this one !!
Sang, 🎶🎶 Auntie Patti🎶🎶 with Love 💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞
I was a teen in the UK when this hit our charts, it was gorgeous then and still us now.. her voice is magical
One of the best duets ever!
I saw Patti in Pittsburgh in the igloo. They HAD to open the roof, the building could not contain that voice. Angels quake when they hear her.
Getting the chills, aren't you?
So smooth and so powerful. A match made in heaven. Such a great song ♥️
This song is perfection. In 1986 I turned 30 and thought Michael hung the moon. How has it been that long ago?
Lhm the voices on these two! Heaven.
And I saw both your faces when Michael chimed in. So beautifully unique.
Edited... omg you said Patty's pies! I freaking love her sweet potato pie. Nobody does them better.
Asia & BJ, you'll love her "New Attitude" and "Lady Marmalade"!! (Lady Marmalade from when she was in the female vocal group Labelle!!
Best "Lady Marmalade" hands down.
One of my favorite songs. ❤
Incredible duet.
Another super awesome "duet" is Samantha Sang & Bee Gees - Emotion
Patti is a national treasure & Michael is always amazing. FYI~ He was in the Doobie Brothers.
That has got to be the best duel I've heard in a long time. They're beautiful. Hi from Maryland
Every now and again, 2 legendary vocalists will come together to collaborate on a song and I swear, it comes out like catching lightning in a bottle. Awesome song and reaction
Like peanut butter and chocolate. Two great voices that sound great together.

She was clever in spotting he would do well: remember at the time they were effectively working in different genres.
"Yah Mo Be There" by James Ingram with Michael McDonald. You won't regret it.
Oh God yeah!
I love the boy who promotes pattis pies and how he imitates her singing… perfectly! 😂❤😂
The note that Patti hits at the end, oooff!!
Patti LaBelle, what a voice, nothing else needs to be said
Two beautiful voices intertwined! Perfect.
Also, if y'all haven't heard the group (Player), their song Baby Come back is a true "Blue eyed soul" classic!!! 👍👍👍
Spring 1986. Reminds of my senior year in high school; about to graduate.
3:15 - 3:30 Will go down as a TH-cam Classic - Too Funny. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I love Patti's singing, but Damn! Them Sweet Potato Pies of hers are out of this world! And her Southern Buttermilk Pie and Banana Pudding! 😎🤔❤️❤️
I've said it before but, dang, I could for sure and for certain listen to Asia laugh all day long. Y'all are special. Thank you!
Hey there Asia & BJ, Now you're cooking with gas!!! This classic is performed by a top tier & top notch duet that blended this song into an absolute "MASTERPIECE!!!"
Great song! They sound fantastic together!
Such a beautiful song 🎵. Love watching your reactions. You are both so fun. Good humour great music. 😊👊💜
One of my favorite Patti LaBelle songs was "There's a Winner in You," from her epic 1986 album "Winner in You."
Love this song with these two great voices, a classic❤️
Greatest duet of two of the greatest voices in the world!!
With Patti LaBelle, Diana Ross, Tina Turner, Chaka Khan and the list goes on was a magical time for music. And then they put Michael McDonald together with Patti LaBelle was pure heaven.
What can I say! You can't get any better than this !!Patti and Michael. 🎶🎶❤❤.
This was an instant classic, two legends and when they turn it up at the end it’s ridiculous.
Patti pies. LMAO. Those sweet potato pies are grand.
These two sing ALL the notes!!!
You just don’t hear music like this anymore. Those two duet perfectly together! ❤️
