Unfortunately Kenny has passed. Another good song of his, that was actually written by Barry Gibb of the Bee Gees, is Islands in the Stream. It is a duet with Dolly Parton.
This song was written by Lionel Ritchie but specifically for Kenny Rogers. Lionel has tried to sing it, and as incredible as Lionel is, he has never sang it like Kenny.
I love the live duet he and Dolly do of Bob Segar's "We've got tonight" as well. They have beautiful chemistry!

I married my high school sweetheart and best friend last October and this was our first dance song. 20 years apart we spent going through our sperate hardships and now we found our way back to one another and she damn sure is my "Lady". Having a beautiful strong woman makes life amazing as I am sure BJ understands.

I remember my dad would play this for my momma❣ I'm in tears, because we lost my Dad this past September 2020 to brain cancer. Dad held on, because he didn't want to leave my mom on her own, even though he knew he was going to be with his other love, Jesus❣ So as you can imagine~ as stories go, Their's was the greatest LOVE story and I got to live to see it all from beginning to the end- what a blessing! Yes- I was there when dad married my mom and I was adopted a year later❣ Dad used to say he was the luckiest man alive, because he said he got 2 for the price of 1- Well most people didn't even know I wasn't biologically his, because he not only loved my mom- he loved me like I was his own❣ I sure do miss my Dad! Love Kenny Rogers music from when he was with the First Edition (60's-70's) to his solo career. He was a great story teller in many of his songs like "Coward Of The County" & "The Gambler". He had so many hits "Lucille", "Lady", "Through the Years" etc. He did a lot of duets such as with Kim Carnes "Don't Fall In Love With A Dreamer", with Sheena Easton "We've Got Tonight" & with Dolly Parton "Islands In The Stream". He also did quite a few duets with Dottie West.

Half of the "love songs" now are juvenile sex songs, and the others are about how men/women just weigh you down and you don't need them. Miserable people spend money frivolously. Yes the live version is much better! The two legends this song brought together in a great friendship are also two of the most effortless singing voices I've heard. THAT performance was shortly before Kennys passing & the love between the lifelong friends is beautiful to see. A must see.

One of the most beautiful songs ever written. Fun fact: As most know this was written by Lionel Richie. It was first called “Baby” & Richie who had only written the 1st verse, had originally pitched it to the Commodores, but they turned it down. Kenny’s former road manager heard about it then called him & told him that there was a guy, Richie, in Vegas & he wanted to pitch him the song. Kenny flew to Vegas that day to meet Richie. As Richie started playing an out-of-tune piano in the dressing room, Rogers began to talk to him about recently marrying Marianne Gordon, his fourth wife. Kenny said “I married a lady, a real lady. A country boy like me from Houston, Texas, what I am doing with a lady… she’s got such taste, such class, such style, and she’s such a lady. Oh, by the way, what’s the name of your song?” Richie replied with “Lady” then while laughing said “I’m no fool.” Anyway, when they started recording it Richie still hadn’t written the 2nd verse so Kenny asked “So where is the 2nd verse” & people in the studio said “Lionel’s in the toilet writing it right now.’ Kenny said “What?” & they said, ‘Yeah, he can’t write unless he has the pressure to write.'” So, most of this beauty was written in a bathroom. There is also a version of Lady sung by Teddy Pendergrass in one of his concerts. He was set to do a remake of the song on his next album but unfortunately he was paralyzed in a car accident soon after so it was never recorded. Just a classic, beautifully written song! Shout out to Lionel Ritchie. Although I love Kenny singing this song, it’s The Gambler that is my fav.
This was written by Lionel Richie. I saw a video a few days ago of the We Are The World singers, then (1985) and now (2020), everyone got old or died but Lionel Richies hair changed slightly, that's it!!! RIP Kenny
There is a song that's not by Kenny that I think is perfect for Valentine's day. It's by Freddie Mercury. You Take My Breath Away, live at Hyde Park, 1976. This was a Queen concert, but Freddie did this solo with just the piano. It's beautiful.
I went to my girlfriends job and sang this to her. I'm thankful that love is blind and deaf because I don't have a great voice but she loved it.

I used to sing this to the lady who in 1982 would become my wife. She contacted COVID and passed away in April of 2020. The lyric of this song that says "you have come into my life and made me whole" took on a new meaning to me. I'm mo longer whole since losing my princess.

Kenny Rodgers became a favorite of mine when I saw him on the Muppet Show when I was seven or eight. (this is on TH-cam). This is when I found out I liked the song Gambler. At ten I bought a greatest hits record of Kenny Rodgers. My Mom and Dad would pull out the album and play this song. Then, when I was a DJ, I'd play this song at weddings and at a specific singles event. I was a 20 something at the time, so these single events were filled with people who were in their 30's or 40's; so they loved this song. I'm 52 so if you do the math it's the reason why they liked this song. This singles dance is where I learned Disco, sappy love songs of the 1970's, and awesome soul love songs of the 70's. What I enjoyed playing at this singles gig and weddings were the awesome slow songs and dance songs of the 60's.

The Third time or fourth time I worked this singles gig I noticed an album with a collection 70's slow songs. I spotted the song "If". The four times I did the gig no one had played it, so I did. The dance floor filled with people.
My DJ boss who graduated in the 1970's looked at me with this shocked look and asked, "You know this song?"
I Simply answered, "Yeah."
He looked at me, "I'm not saying it's a good one. I'm just surprised you knew it."
We both laughed.

I was young when this song came out but I remember every woman thought he was singing to them. In 1980, I saw him in concert and the women went absolutely crazy. Every woman had goosebumps.
