From my arrival at Colombo airport, to my beautiful homestay in the capital city, to the bus ride to Kandy and the unforgettable welcoming I received from my homestay family: these are my first impressions of Sri Lanka, the Pearl of the Indian Ocean.

PLEASE NOTE: My first Sri Lanka video series was filmed in April 2022 when the country was facing a political and economic crisis - people were struggling a lot because of fuel, gas and medicine shortage.
Unfortunately I could not edit and upload these videos because after my trip my mother got sick and I had to rush back to my country (Italy). My mum passed away last October and only now I gained back a little peace of mind so I can show to the world how amazing Sri Lanka is.
Although in some parts of my videos you might see some fuel queues, nowadays the country is not experiencing this hard crisis anymore and it's generally one of the safest places to visit in Asia. I therefore recommend anyone to visit Sri Lanka: the smiles and hospitality of the island, along with its tea, food, wildlife, beaches and ancient ruins, will steal your heart as they stole mine ❤

Absolutely true. I am ashamed to say,that as a young person ,my family had many domestic servants and even more disgraced by the way i treated them .All of the budhist ones reacted to my arrogance with philosophy. As usual most of them were literate as in sri lanka nearly every person is literate. However,they were unsophisticated and explained my errors with wisdom. For example,one servant was vegetarian. I ridiculed her. Her response was to tell me a story of how buddha spoke to animals. I responded with more ridicule . Their response was to show me how they will walk around ants!

Welcome to Sri Lanka & many thanks for choosing this tiny island as your holiday destination this time. Good that you are with families as your homestay and most of the Sri lankans (at least 99%) are very friendly and some touts in towns will try to earn a fast buck from you. Travellers are blessed with Google etc. and this will help you immensely. If I'm allowed to give you some advice how to enjoy Sri Lankan rice & curry without burning young tongue etc., etc,.: First you serve rice on to your plate, which is the main ingredient of this meal and then the vege curries/fish or meat; here you take smaller portions. The quantity of rice should be always more. Afterwards you mix small portions of other ingredients with the rice & then eat it. Then the meal is not so spicy & you can enjoy it ae well. Enjoy your stay in our home country. Ravi

When you’re traveling around Sri Lanka, keep the following tips in mind Just a few suggestions for safe travel:
1. When you're on top of the waterfall, please be cautious because the water level can suddenly rise. When it comes to the upcountry, the climate is always changing.
2. Always consult with locals before entering waterfalls, lakes, or rivers (there may be deep areas, the water level may suddenly rise, or crocodiles may be present).
3. When traveling by train, particularly upcountry, you can take photos and videos while sitting on the footboard. However, be cautious when traveling on footboard because there may be tunnels, bridges, trees, and etc.
4. If you see wild elephants on the road, avoid getting too close to them.
