Plenty others have pointed this out already but it'll help to know a bit of Sinhala and/or Tamil depending on where you travel to (while Sinhala is spoken by the majority, the Northern, Eastern and the Central regions have significant Tamil-speaking populations). Right now a lot of non indians hate India or look down on india because of lack of cleanliness and civic sense. Dont forget to stop in Anuradapura and Polonaruwa on the way to see the ancient ruins. You have the best beaches in East Coast in Arugam Bay and Pasikuda and Kumana National Park is nearby which is cheaper than Yala National park.

Our citizens are more civilized and hospitable, making an effort to follow rules and readily helping others. During my stay in New Delhi, aggressive beggars near Connaught Place sought money in a violent way, and there were numerous scams. The Indian people on the streets appeared very aggressive and confrontational. Additionally, the hygiene standards were lacking in the three-star hotels I stayed in, as they did not change bed sheets and other items after guest checkouts. For example, in India, service providers like shoe cleaners would persistently follow us, even when politely declined, causing considerable bother. In Sri Lanka, such encounters are not typical. Throughout my two weeks in New Delhi, I felt unsafe and disappointed, particularly with the people I encountered. While India excels in technology, the economy, and infrastructure, there is no doubt about it; when it comes to civilization and societal values, I feel Sri Lankans are 1000 times better than some of the Indians. This comment is not a generalization about all Indians but is based on the specific individuals I met on the streets during my experiences.

Or u could say "aayubowan" Our lingo is very different to Indian. U shld learn a few basic srilankan words. Thank u is "ssthuthi". Since u r new to the country just use the basic English words like thnk u, ok, how r u, good morning, etc.. Cos we usually use these general english terms and words mixed with sinhalese. Tea is "té" or u can even say" tea".

Sri Lanka is a good country I ways, but I have noticed many people commenting: “Sri Lanka is better than India” or “way cleaner” “safer” or even “India 2.0”. I want this forbidden. Please do not think or say that especially if you are Sri Lankan or Indian. Both countries have + and - but one isn’t better than the other.

When you read comments, You may have realised that Sri Lankans will get offended with Indian things like Greetings, and thinking that SL a part of India. It was never been a part of India in history. Sri Lanka had invaders from India and Sinhalese defeated them again to get the country back. In 1st Century Indian Invader was in SL for 70 Years, other than that not any other Invader was successful.
In 11th Century, Sri Lankan King Parakramabahu Invaded South India and Myanmar.
Sri Lankan was never been a part of India. Same as Australia and New Zealand. China and Japan
Politically, India involved negatively for Sri Lankas development.
South India trained and gave weapons to LTTE terrorists in the Civil War which damaged SL over 3 decades. Because, Tamils are the largest nation without their own country, so they saw Sri Lanka as a place to get a land for Tamils. India was a part of slowing down Sri Lanka's development. After the war, At Geneva convensions India voted against Sri Lanka. Our real friend Japan was neutral. Russia and China always with Sri Lanka but not the neighbour. Easter attackers in 2017 time was trained in India and India involved in 2019 Easter Attack. Before Easter Attacks, Sri Lanka was a upper middle income country with 4400USD GDP per capita and that also was a cause for Recent economic breakdown of SL. Now India is trying to get their foot into Sri Lanakn harbours like Trincomalee using this situation.
