- Follow this beautiful love story between two completely different archetypes; Andrew the 'jock' and the Allison the 'basket case'.
The Breakfast Club (1985) SYNOPSIS: Five high school students from different walks of life endure a Saturday detention under a power-hungry principal (Paul Gleason). The disparate group includes rebel John (Judd Nelson), princess Claire (Molly Ringwald), outcast Allison (Ally Sheedy), brainy Brian (Anthony Michael Hall) and Andrew (Emilio Estevez), the jock. Each has a chance to tell his or her story, making the others see them a little differently -- and when the day ends, they question whether school will ever be the same.

"I can see your face." I love that that's what Andy notices first, he clearly liked her all along, and likely wouldn't have minded had she gone back to her old look.
There’s little hints here and there that he likes her, especially when she says “HA!” He smiles lol
I noticed that they held hands when they were walking down the steps! I never noticed that before!
@@chrysrubio1024 when does she say ha?
@@nicole.24 she says it in response to Claire, when she's complaining about how her parents "use [her] to get back at each other"
I noticed that now too!
The way he almost cries when she admits her parents ignore her is so sweet🥺 true empathy
Agreed, it's a very understated but meaningful moment between Andy and Allison. She's constantly ignored by her parents, while his, especially his dad, never stop paying attention to him, so they've connected on a deep, emotional level.
In one of my head-canons he grows up to be a counselor.
KIds ussually think they deserve the treatment they get. It's easy to imagine that an ignored child would expect their issues of being ignopred being because they are unworthy of attention, and if they shared that, would probably expect that issue is unworthy of attention, and should be ignored aswell. She pushes him away when he is trying to give the real her attention. He respects her request and starts to leave. She's in control, and she chooses to share, when he does. It's obvious he's leaving because he cares. He doesn't ignore her request. Allison is torn because part of her wants to be seen, and part of her needs to test that people won't ignore her. She's lived in the self-fulfilling propfecy of it. That's what people do. Andy caring, and seing it as a problem that she is ignored would have been a very powerful moment. She also see's through his image, and doesn't care about it. Basically, they both break eachothers cycles by caring about eachotyher behind the masks that everyone else accepts them for, but leave them feeling dead inside. It's a beautiful story, and I think there is a reason this movie has stood the test of time. These characters were all real people, forved out of their comfort zone, and put together, interacting in very real, messy, and honest ways. I think that's why TBC ias honest and imprfect, and I think that's why it makes us feel so much. Later we learned how to construct film formulas that make us feel, but keep us in our comfort zone.

I love Brian's character development so much!! In the scene they leave the school, even the posture and walk of him is so confident. Aw I adore him
😮 Brian was the Only one that didn’t get the girl…😢
Agreed, Brian is easily my favourite, and I love how he's acknowledged Carl in front of the other kids, which he was afraid to do earlier on. He might not have gotten together with anyone, but he still has plenty of time to meet someone.

i love that brian noticed allison’s makeover, but he still let them have their moment
I agree, Brian is such a sweetie, and my favourite character. I also liked that he gave a positive reaction, and also when Allison kindly thanked him for complementing her. I like to think that Brian and Allison stayed friends after the detention, since they were already similar.
Even the actress said she felt like the pastels were too much for her character.
I personally felt like if they had put her hair back and a crappy tee she still would’ve been fine.😂
I don't have a problem with the pastels. It's the big floral headband that I could never look past xD
@@kevinjones9586 absolutely you did Kevin, I’m sure of it…. 🙄
It's the makeover she didn't need, but so glad she got.
Simply put the makeover was more about Claire anyway being nice to her
So many talk about Alison having a “makeover”, it wasn’t about being made over, it was her shedding some layers so to speak (hair out of her face, the deep black eyeliner, the bulky coat and sweater off) so everyone (but especially Andy) could see HER and not what she hid under. Even Ally Sheedy has spoken in the past about it being her idea to not put so much more makeup on Allison but taking it off.
My heart breaks when she says “they ignore me”
brilliant line. because all of them felt that--just didnt know it like she did.
I find the end so unusual that their parents just let them kiss and act so nonchalant. But I guess it’s like they said, they ignore them.
Precisely, I always thought that it was strange that they causally kissed people they literally met that same day in front of their own parents. I would probably cringe if that was me! 😂🤣
You can see at the end that the jock’s dad was curious who the basket case was.
I’m guessing Andy’s dad probably pestered Andy about the identity of the beautiful girl he was kissing the whole ride home 😂
It was the 80s every body kissed everybody

I really love the breakfast club, I know some people critcize it for being too clean, but I feel a movie doesnt have to be crude and extreme to tell its message. To me it did its job rights while still being enjoyable and palatable
What u mean too clean? Im so confused?
@@bhavanijayant526 they're saying its not "dark" or messy enough, for example like Euphoria(which is trauma, drugs)
No offense, but I Dont think anyone says that. And if they do, they are immature. If they want dark, they can find it.
@@takemeseriouslynt Breakfast Club is way more realistic than Euphoria
one of the best movies from a decade stuffed with great movies. one location, 7 characters, and lots of talking.
What I love is that Andy barely knew who Allison was before that day, ..but then as the day went on, slowly he became intrigued by her and drawn to her. Getting her to open up, really wanting to know why she felt so reserved and alone. And by the end of the day, when he saw the real her underneath all the black, he was attracted to her. And I don't entirely mean when Claire did her up, but when Allison wasn't afraid to come out of her shell and tell the group things about her. Especially Andy. ❤
I ship both pairs, but in the end, I'd say I ship A&A a bit more. ❤️

@@rameshbhattacharjee4374That’s awesome man!
It just goes to show you that people can hook up as soon as within a day, so people who say that they don't know you enough yet even though you and them have met and talked for weeks or months, could just be making excuses to not hook up with you.
I've seen a lot of people saying how they think the makeover was either too much, or just unnecessary, but I honestly think it was perfect. It wasn't to change her, or cover up who she is; it was to show the real her, and allow her to open up and feel good about herself. She wore all of the dark clothing and makeup because she felt invisible, and she didn't really want to be noticed. But by the end of the movie, after having confided in people (especially Andy) who can understand and relate to her, she was more comfortable with herself, which is what I believe that represents. And I also think that Andy liked her before the makeover, as well. He payed quite a bit of attention to her throughout the film, and obviously cared enough to listen to her and even defend her. To me, the makeover just made him like her more than he already did, because he got to see more of the real her, that was underneath the surface. And I just absolutely adore the way he looks at her when they're walking down the hall, the way they hold hands, the fact that he gives her his jacket, how he holds onto it as she pulls away, like he doesn't want her to go, and especially the way he stares at her even as they're both driving away, as if he's trying to memorize every detail of her. They're just so perfect for each other in my opinion :')
I agree with this comment so much omg thank you for this 🙏💕
Agreed! Also, I think their relationship could continue on from here and maybe even last! Their relationship and attraction is subtle and based on connection. Claire and Bender’s relationship is fiery and passionate, which can fizzle out without a connection. Their relationship was forged, in part, with the idea of making her parents angry. I just don’t see it being strong enough to last past the end of the school year if that

Everyone thinks that, when they get old. I'm 41 and I'm getting it now. You think your generation is the best and the new generation just doesn't get it. Greek philosophers were complaining about it. It's nothing new.

7:30 i like when Allison looks at Andrew when she said "i whould do it though, if you love someone thats okay" Andrew looks at her
3:15 one of the funniest lines in the movie for me 🤣
Yeah 😂
I wish that they'd included a third girl for Brian to stop him from being the fifth wheel. But then again, he didn't seem to mind, and it might have felt too contrived to have everyone perfectly paired up.
Yeah then we'd have a forced plot.
His wheel was the paper he wrote at the end. That was his kiss.
It honestly fits the character. Most guys like that don’t really have many women see them in the same way as the other guys here.
Yes it would have done. Too convenient. Anyway, he has his paper, so all's well that ends well.
I think showing you don't have to find someone because all your friends do is a pretty good message. Sometimes things that matter to you can take a long time to come about, and sometimes it's more important to learn to love YOU before sharing yourself with someone else. As someone who's asexual, I felt very seen by his character, but I think it's important for anyone regardless of sexuality to understand they can be defined by more than a romantic love to someone else.
Imagine being in detention with people you don't know, and then they become your best friends, or at least new friends
All it takes to do that is a little group therapy and sympathy.
It’s John Benders dream, he’s asleep
I’m 33 now, and I was underage when I first saw this movie. Some parts are emotional and other parts are memorizing that you remember every word. The moment that Andrew talk to Allison, to Claire redo her makeup, she is just adorable

10:55 How many people know that's John Hughes himself playing Brian's dad picking him up?
Molly Ringwald is one of my favourite actresses. I always identified with her John Hughes characters. But this movie I identified as the basketcase. Ally Sheedy is an underrated actress.
i liked them so muchhh, more than the main couple
I think of them as the main couple
@@aquawarper7328 oh absolutely!!
I was always under the assumption that they were the main couple.
Aren’t they already the main couple?
I didn't like Claire and John they were good alone there relationship was toxic
It's funny but I honestly think they will talk again to each other in high school on monday. Allison and Andrew are undoubtedly the two characters who have had the most character development: Andrew no longer wants to follow the path set by his father, and Allison is more open to others to the point of confiding in Andrew her life and her trauma. And it's obvious that they like each other, Andrew can't stop looking at her and they had no shame when they kissed in front of their parents. They will talk again in high school and, in my mind, they will even consider starting a relationship ❤
This is really an underrated pairing!
at 11:32 when Andy drives off you can see him wave to Allison
I always wanted them to be in there own separate movie
I love how she looks exactly the same during the transformation 😂
Yup, because she was already beautiful. She just needed to open up for everyone to see it more clearly.
Allys sound afecta are so adorable😂
he was sunshine, i was midnight rain
I never thought of it that way, but you're right. They're totally a Midnight Rain couple!
Haha, the good old counterpart.
You are trying so hard to have aesthetic , it doesn't work like that. People who don't try and naturally have their own are it. Not one who proclaims herself as midnight rain. There's the people who write songs and the people who have songs written about them, you're trying so hard to be the ladder
There's no love like that first love, especially in high school
"The girl is an island unto herself"
😂😂😂
Andrew's dad looked at Allison, then at Andrew with an almost smile. Perhaps on the drive home he didn't ignore Andrew asking him who the babe was.
The fact that she is so beautiful made him curious how his son even got her 😂
Man, Brian is just like me. Pressured by his parents to have the best grades, does all the work, and never gets the girl.
Brian will have the last laugh
High school relationships never last anyways

@@KenMasters.I was pretty much like Allison in high school, and I never saw anything wrong with the makeover, it's superficial (for christ's sake this is a 80's movie) and it was for Allison to have a nice moment and experience something as simple and normal as trying on clothes and makeup with your friends. God knows she hasn't even had it with her mother. Nothing implies that Allison has stopped being herself or that she will stay that way, but she probably felt good about Andy's reaction.
