    What amazes me about so many flight accidents is the strong tendency for pilots to disbelieve or ignore the instruments, warnings, etc. Why do they always believe they are right and the instruments, etc., aren’t working? That is rarely, if ever, the case, pilots always believe they are right when they’re making huge pilot errors. What egos we humans have.

    • @jornvanbeek143
      @jornvanbeek143 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      It is called confirmation bias. All humans are wired to search for clues that confirm their belief, while disregarding the true situation. Its quite similar to how disinformation is spread. It also amazes me, but it is not an ego thing
      To me it seems that there is also a factor of what the channel mentour pilot describes as “get-there-itis”: disregarding safe procedures to land sooner.

    • @rynovoski
      @rynovoski 15 วันที่ผ่านมา

      A big part of flying is being trained to believe your instruments and not your own body. But when you think about it, you’ve been believing your body your entire life so there is a bit of a natural instinct to overcome. Of course there’s also a lot of regulation, and rules that good pilots follow that these did not.

    I’m just left baffled with each of these stories that have a plot ‘believing the plane was nose up/ascending’ because of how it felt. Do they not have an attitude indicator right in front of their face? I can totally see how easy it could be to get disoriented based on your own senses, but why do they seem to ignore all the instruments that they know they’re supposed to rely on? That’s why those instruments are there! Otherwise an airplane would just have a huge glass windshield, a speedometer, and an altimeter.

    • @cremebrulee4759

      @@cremebrulee4759I agree. In many of these cases, I find myself screaming, "Look at your instruments!" But sometimes the instruments are faulty and misleading. Which is why they must also use visual cues (if possible). In this specific case, since visual cues were not possible given that it was completely dark, it baffles me that they even attempted to land. At the very least, ATC could have and should have assisted but there didn't seem to have been any communication at this critical period. It's completely mind numbing.

    I think the real issue here was the non standard 360 orbit initiated way too close to the runway. When this failed it put the Captain under excess stress and disorientation from which he never recovered, the first officer didn’t have the experience or the personality to contradict the Captain. This is why we have std missed approaches which in this case should have been initiated 6 or 7 miles out and if followed would have been almost routine on a clear calm night. Perhaps we could ask if the unreasonable pressure felt by the Captain to try to pull off a dangerous approach was a personal flaw or created in any part by culture within the airline?

    • @jvaneck8991
      @jvaneck8991 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      It was (eventually) a missed-approach. After the circling maneuver (which, had the crew initiated a standard-rate turn would have gone off smoothly enough) the pilots recognized that they had overshot the extended centerline and thus declared a missed approach. After breaking off over the shoreline they faced out into a moonless seascape with no reference point visible. Instead of going back onto auto-pilot and letting the computers do the flying, the captain attempted to hand-fly out over the Gulf, and got disoriented. Crash followed. Turning on the autopilot and dialling in 3,000 feet would have avoided this.

    • @irishflyer6377
      @irishflyer6377 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@jvaneck8991 I agree that use of the autopilot could have helped to reduce workload and given the Captain time to catch up with the aircraft. Having watched again I still feel they should have declared a missed approach at the Approach Fix (11:10 in the video), by the time the Captain started the orbit he was way to close to the runway (less than 1 mile). I know how hard it is to catch up once you get behind an aircraft and I think it was the decision made at the Approach Fix that resulted in a chain of events and the final tragedy.

    Where do you even begin to unpack this one?
    This is so off-the-chart messed up it's inconceivable that either pilot had a license, let alone any time or experience operating an aircraft. You couldn't intentionally screw up to this extent if you tried.

      I heard a cade where a fighter jet took off of a aircraft carrier and the pilot thought the aircraft was stalling so he pushed the nose down. When you have no lights or horizon line, heavy work-load, or lack of training then, using your senses instead of relying on your instruments is apparently a common thing

    FAR's in the U.S. do not allow the pairing of two inexperienced pilots until the Captain has at least 100 PIC in the aircraft. In addition, the minimums are increased by one half mile visibility and the Minimum Descent Altitude is increased by 100 feet for the approach.

    The other factor is with Muslim pilots, when they recognize things aren't going well or there is an emergency, they don't necessarily try to fix things, revert to training or emergency procedures but rather they turn it over to God to handle it (Tawakkul).

    This genuinely pisses me off. I wouldn’t trust these guys to ride my bicycle. How can one be trained THIS extensively yet hate aviation so much that one refuses to learn basic IFR flying? You’ve got HUGE screens in front of you as large as your face (not even a six pack jet; it has SCREENS), but you ignore them, ONLY rely on your senses, and ignore *every single PULL UP warning* at night? No excuses for these pilots at all. Total incompetence. Also flaps full while manoeuvring? How are these guys even pilots? This is sickening and an insult to pilots worldwide, just like Air France 447. They must have hated flying if they were THAT bad at it.

    I don't fly commercial airlines anymore and this is one reason why. When you and the family walk onto the aluminum tube, you assume the flight crew are competent professionals, but you never know until it's too late if you made the correct decision. Incompetence has embedded itself into every facet of our lives including the aviation industry. Acceptance of mediocrity due to political correctness, social norms, and inclusion has dumbed down every fabric of our society.

    My Dad had three filled flight type ratings cards so to say he was a high -time pilot is an understatement. Even he got a case of vertigo in the middle of a truly boring flight. It took about 5 minutes to clear out. The copilot was a good SIC.

    I could see the missed approach if you weren't familiar with the airport but to leave the flaps fully extended constantly and not paying attention to the speed or altitude seems like the pilot was badly confused. The copilot didn't speak up because of poor crew management? I've heard back then middle eastern flight crews were very rank focused with copilots treating the pilot like they are unquestionable.

    Im certainly not a pilot but, there are instruments and warning features, both audible and visual, for a reason. If the pilot thought they were climbing but they were really descending why not look at the attitude indicator and altimeter that would CLEARLY point out they were descending? When I'm driving my truck and I want to know fast I'm going I don't assume I'm not speeding by the "feel" of the truck, I look at my speedometer. It's incomprehensible why the pilot didn't look down at his instruments to assure the plane was doing what he wanted it to do.

    From Manufacturer to airlines, everything is made to save money.
    Plane crashes are less likely than lethal car accident.
    But most plane crashes are due to human errors. The need for serious and responsible trainings need to be enforced.

    This might be a stupid question but when I'm doing something wrong in a video game, usually the game will tell me. Or if I make a wrong turn driving, the GPS is the first to let me know. Can't the autopilot or whatever chime in and tell the pilot "Dude, what the hell are you doing?"

    Hi everyone. The pilots did not performed as they were expected to do. On this day they were not competent! I will not criticize the pilots because they have been criticized enough. Now what was the responsibility of the airline in pairing inexperienced crew together. In the airline Operation Manual A, they have a chapter regarding pairing and scheduling inexperienced crew together. It is the responsibility of Crew Control, fleet management pilot, COO and the pilots themselves self to verify they are complying with this chapter. And unfortunately they failed to comply with that. And in reality the accident started at the crew reporting time for the flight to CAI.

    Pilots with around 3500 to 4500 hours are most dangerous. They think that they did it all and have the experience.
    It not said all are dangerous but the attitude build on success is a human factor that most do not reconsider nor recognise. I have flow with many young men training them. It’s clear to me as data didn’t prove me wrong.

And I'm only a private pilot with 50 hours flight time! I wonder what the passengers were seeing and saying to each other.
