It was very hard for me to pull the trigger on the Garmin but it has turned out to be a valuable instrument in load development. I’m currently shooting 150 grain bullets in my 7-08 and am very satisfied with results including in the field. Never thought I would load a 150 in my ‘08 but my rifle likes them. Enjoying the series. No click bait or drama, just a hunters load development! In His Rest!
I am thankful for your comments and that you recognize what I am (hunter) and how I go about it makes some sort of sense from the pure hunters perspective. I can tell from some comments that my process drives the pure reloaders nuts. Haha. Now that I have a 175 load good to go, I am going to focus on 160s (again) and try to get one dialed in. But, I am really looking forward to the 140s and 150s. He is the one true King!
Definitely a huntable load there. I watched a Mason Leather video and he had Norma Tipstrike and it was 170 grain and the front said medium game and the side said varmint with a squirrel on the side haha 😆
Keep up the awesome videos man so glad you’re back on here. Congrats on the new chronograph I’m hoping to get one soon fingers crossed. Always enjoy your videos man keep up the great work God bless you
Also congrats on the Garmin. I saved 250 for the econo chrono but have seen 3 out of 5 users not get consistent info. I just spent $150 on 150rds of clearance/sale 35cal projectiles. Add powder n primers- if found and it makes accurate documentation of test rounds all the more important. May take awhile but will also get the Garmin. All the best in the New Year to you n yours.
I watched a video on the making of the tikka and sako they test all rifles 3 grains over pressure to make sure they can handle it but that doesn't mean we should try it but just saying lol
@huntsimple9527 They appear to be similar to Hornady SST, but I haven't seen them here. SST has always been very accurate in my guns. I've had acceptable results on deer at close range but never pass thru. Perhaps you get better results with SST and Tipstrike at lower impact velocities.
@@warrenpolidori5541 My experience with SST's is similar, they are devastating, but will not hold up and penetrate. I think this is exactly how the are designed. SST's, Nosler Ballistic Tips, and I think Norma Tipstrike are all very similar in their intended design. I would agree, these should be used with lower impact velocities. It cracks me up to see Hornady offer Superformance with SST's.
@huntsimple9527 Just ran 44, IMR4831 through QL for a 22" barrel with your HDY175 SP2850. Vel:2558 108% compressed 99.91% burn 1.197 ms barrel time 32.5% efficiency You're near the top with this load, maybe a little more room, depending on your gun. We talked about 7828SSC recently and that looks very promising. Higher velocity, slightly lower pressure, about the same compressed fill with a slightly higher charge.
@@warrenpolidori5541 I appreciate it. It looked like there might be another 0.5 or maybe a tad more to go. Zero extractor marks, minimal primer flattening, easy bolt lift. I am most likely not going to ramp it up.....
Glad to see things working better.
Looks good. Agree with perspective on 175.

Congrats on the Garmin chronograph! Someday I'll get one...
It should be a priority. The Garmin is the best electronic I have purchased in years.
Amazing series. Keep up the good work. It is fun to see your progress. I really like how you keep it real and show both the good and the not-so-good.
Thank you for your comments!

Norma needs to get their act together on the packaging! LOL. Hopefully they are better at making the actual loads than the packaging.
@ I agree with you 100%

Very thankful for your comments!
Im saving up to get myself a garmin as well!
If you like Hornady Interlocks, you might try the 162 in your little 7 if you haven't already. Heard real good things about it in the 7-08.
Thank you. I have tried them. So far nothing consistent with them, but we may keep trying some different powders. Thank you.

Great results! I'll have to research that Norma Tip Strike. Are they available as components?
I’ve seen some of these newer Norma bullets available as components.

I must have missed it, but what twist rate?
The manufacturer of this rifle says it is a 1:9 twist.
Mason Leather on YT also noted a box of Norma, with box information errors. th-cam.com/video/pPDJ48mI2YI/w-d-xo.html
My Christensen doesn't like the 160 tipstrike
Isn’t it crazy how each rifle is its own animal?!?!
