July 26, 1945 - February 9, 2022. Thank you for sharing your incredible talent with us, Betty. A true pioneer light years ahead of your time. We weren't worthy. Rest in peace, dear soul. Fly on... 💜
she was the first funk queen, she turned Miles Davis from straight jazz to jazz fusion, wrote, produced and sung her own music Betty was the funk queen
@SMC Gmail My exact same thoughts. No she was not 'before her time'. By the late 70's I was heavily into funk and she was performing with musicians who were defining the genre, and some who were creating funk fusion. Funk WAS the 70's. Betty was a woman of her time. We weren't always 'old people' !
Musically she was in her time and a wonderful artist, that is, she is timeless. BUT : somehow for women’s right of speech she was ahead. No other women singer would sing about woman pleasure and sexuality so openly and crudely back then. She was a strong influence on many funk artists
Bought her first two lps when they came out on import outta Harlequins, Piccadilly,,,,the funkiest, girl of all time and the band proper streetfunk,,,,light years ahead of the pack ,,,so beautiful too ,,,,Vaya con Dios
I can't believe it took after this time, you tube never recommended me betty davis even though I was clicking on a lot of 70s funk recommended tracks. Luckily people have CDs and taste.. lest I would still not have heard this genius.
Love this tune. Wicked lyrics. This woman in charge. Love hear powerful Black woman vibe. Well before her time Right at the end. No I don't want to love you.. Xx
This was the the good ole days back in the 70's when people danced to whatever the DJ played. She was in my top 10 female funky musicians along with Maxayn and Suzi Quatro
No I don’t wanna love you Cause I know how you are That’s why I’ve been staying away from you That’s why I haven’t called you Cause I know you could possess my body I know you could make me scrawl I know could have me shaking I know you could have me climbing walls That’s why I don’t wanna love you Cause I know how you are Sure you say you’re right on and you’re righteous But with me I’d know you’d be right off Cause you know I could possess your body too, don’t cha? You know I could make you crawl And just as hard as I’d fall for you, boy Well You know you’d fall for me harder That’s why I don’t wanna love you Cause I’d know what you’d do to my heart You’d scorch it just like a hot iron Leave me burning alone in the dark Cause I know you’d could make me suffer I know you could drive me mad I know you’d just take me in a circle And when it got real I know you’d disappear That’s why I ain’t gonna love you Cause I know you like to be in charge But with me you know you couldn’t control me, don’t cha? Cause you know I’d make you drop your guard Cause I’d have you eating your ego I’d make you pocket your pride And just as hard as I’d be loving you, boy Well you know you’d be loving me harder That’s why I don’t wanna love you No no no I said I don’t wanna love you No no no no no no I said I ain’t gonna No no no I said I don’t wanna No no no no no
Yes, Yes Yall - just heard of this song...today...(on Twitter) in 2009!!!! and it's a damn shame our music and culture isn't preserved and given continuity so each new generation could come to appreciate it.
Imagine if she'd been able to perform on Soul Train, Midnight Special, Don Kirschners Rock concert or Bandstand back in the day. The exposure she would've gotten.
Yeah ,never understood why mate ! Too outrageous I suppose and wouldn't tone anything down,,,,still kick myself for not going to see her at Ronnie Scott's back in 76 ! Bought both the Lps on import when they came out ,,,,,still so fresh ,raw and funky ,,,, cheers
Awesome song! Bass player is Larry Graham, you can see him play sometime with Prince or Maceo Parker.. very good musicans, like many from the 70's area.
This is from an era when artists could be individuals...before record companies only wanted clones of Beyonce, Chirs Brown and whatever aluminum foiled-tooth rapper is popular this week. There is only ONE Betty Davis, and she's one of the best.
I wonder... if anyone would convince Betty to go on stage again, would we just be disappointed (who knows how she looks at 66) or would she handle it? (One or two supporting girls on stage handling dancing and all that might be needed.) Her music feels a lot more modern today, she might have a chance to finally become the funk queen. And at the same time I wonder if there are more tunes than the 5 albums, some more tunes in the archives. Just dreaming, just because she is so good.
Almost no funk reached Sweden in those days. Recent years I have discovered a lot of great 70's funk that never came near the swedish charts - including Betty Davis.
Just Eccario and Larry. Neil Schon and Dennis Rodriguez from Santana on guitars, Merl Saunders on piano, Herschel Savage who would join Larry in GCS on organ and The Pointer Sisters singing backup.
Hey Guys, I have been a Betty Davis fan since the early 90's when her albums first resurfaced. Coming from Australia I'd never heard anything like her sound and her voice. She infused me and my life from the first listening. I haven't stopped boogieing to her music since! So much so that I created a show about her because I felt people should know about this wonderful musician. The show is called "They Say She's Different", and celebrates her life, talent, and music, head to www.theysayshesdifferent.com to know more! Cheers Cecilia Low
Betty never fails to wow me. I was listening to Miles' 'A Tribute to Jack Johnson' and somehow thought of Betty because she was the muse behind Bitches Brew, which Miles nearly called Witches Brew
She deserved to be as big as Tina Turner but the times couldn't handle this much heat!
still can't. they push vulgarity but true sexiness and freedom is something they don't promote nor touch
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
A baseline and lyrics that I didn’t know I needed!

No anti love for Betty. I love Betty.
she was the first funk queen, she turned Miles Davis from straight jazz to jazz fusion, wrote, produced and sung her own music Betty was the funk queen
it's a cryin' shame no one makes music like this anymore. She's the best, what a voice, what a band!!!!!
Thank goodness
Nobody made music like this at any time, except Betty Davis. One of my all time favorites.
Today was the first time hearing this song, This is beautiful!
Rest in Peace.
This is so funky, Betty's voice and the band is off the chain. Another legend ahead of her time.
love this bassline... love the groove... love the vocals... love the nastay low down dirty funk of this track!
She was before her time. Love it 🥰

@@maitrerestefond4055This doesn’t sound like a song from the 70s more like early 2000s/ late 90s
Bought her first two lps when they came out on import outta Harlequins, Piccadilly,,,,the funkiest, girl of all time and the band proper streetfunk,,,,light years ahead of the pack ,,,so beautiful too ,,,,Vaya con Dios
Mesmerisingly brilliant baseline and piano riff. this was my tune back in the day! All hail Betty!!!!!
how the hell did i miss B.D. why am i just hearing this now,,,,this is the best funk ive ever heard
i always love finding new music and i just found her and i wish i have discovered her sooner this is so good!!!!!!!!!!!
It amazes me how a 1973 song has such dry -in-your-face vocales, sounds very modern!
You could give great music reviews
Released nearly 50 years ago, and if Billie Eilish released this tomorrow, everyone would say how revolutionary it is.
a prime example of the golden era of recording and funk from the SF Bay Area - Larry Graham on bass!
funky jazzy masterpiece. this bass is demolishing every soul that is able to hear it. I will never get tired of it.
Funkiest lady of all ,,,so gorgeous too ,,God rest her soul ,,,
Larry Graham was and still is the master of funk bass lines!!!
I can't believe it took after this time, you tube never recommended me betty davis even though I was clicking on a lot of 70s funk recommended tracks.
Luckily people have CDs and taste.. lest I would still not have heard this genius.
Thank you BBC Radio 6 for having introduced me to this amazing song :-)
Bass is fantastic
Guitar is fantastic
Voice is fantastic
Everything else is fantastic
Yep. The song is great.
This tune is the deepest funk I have ever heard!!! the bass playing is hypnotic!!
Where did this woman come from?? powerful.
you betta ask somebody...this my era...
Ask Jimi 😊
This is one of the best tracks I've ever heard! Why haven't I ever heard this on the radio?
I love funk. I first heard this song in the 9th grade. Funky as a fried baloney sandwich. Good Lawd! Funk makes you smile. It's real.
After all years even now this track it's a pure jewel ♥
Neal Schon was as much a beast on guitar back then, as he still is today.
Goddayum I wish this was on spotify. This is fantastic.
It is
Love this tune. Wicked lyrics. This woman in charge.
Love hear powerful Black woman vibe. Well before her time
Right at the end. No I don't want to love you.. Xx
I used to "bump" to this song when I was little
This was the the good ole days back in the 70's when people danced to whatever the DJ played. She was in my top 10 female funky musicians along with Maxayn and Suzi Quatro
Thank you for your songs Betty. RIP 🧡💛💜
I cannot believe I have lived this long and never heard this. I feel terribly wronged.
No I don’t wanna love you
Cause I know how you are
That’s why I’ve been staying away from you
That’s why I haven’t called you
Cause I know you could possess my body
I know you could make me scrawl
I know could have me shaking
I know you could have me climbing walls
That’s why I don’t wanna love you
Cause I know how you are
Sure you say you’re right on and you’re righteous
But with me I’d know you’d be right off
Cause you know I could possess your body too, don’t cha?
You know I could make you crawl
And just as hard as I’d fall for you, boy
Well You know you’d fall for me harder
That’s why I don’t wanna love you
Cause I’d know what you’d do to my heart
You’d scorch it just like a hot iron
Leave me burning alone in the dark
Cause I know you’d could make me suffer
I know you could drive me mad
I know you’d just take me in a circle
And when it got real I know you’d disappear
That’s why I ain’t gonna love you
Cause I know you like to be in charge
But with me you know you couldn’t control me, don’t cha?
Cause you know I’d make you drop your guard
Cause I’d have you eating your ego
I’d make you pocket your pride
And just as hard as I’d be loving you, boy
Well you know you’d be loving me harder
That’s why I don’t wanna love you
No no no
I said I don’t wanna love you
No no no no no no
I said I ain’t gonna
No no no
I said I don’t wanna
No no no no no
Listening while watching the documentary on BBC FOUR funk night.
WOW!, just WOW!
I was just watching the same show!
Funky classic which definitely takes on more meaning after a toxic relationship with a Narcissist!
Cardi B's WAP song made me remember this tune. WAP may be vulgar as hell, but it's got nothing on this in terms of being sexy and sensual.
This shit has class man..WAP is just straight up porn..
Yes, Yes Yall - just heard of this song...today...(on Twitter) in 2009!!!! and it's a damn shame our music and culture isn't preserved and given continuity so each new generation could come to appreciate it.
Damn, Betty sent chills through me, I lost something right then, oh yeah, my pride.
Who's listening to this on Valentine's Day 2021?
This is exactly how I felt about my husband when we first started dating! I love this song.
Larry's bass should be gold plated.
"You know you couldn't control me"... Right on.
Funky, Funky...A woman ahead of her time. Thankfully someone is re-releasing her stuff. I love de Funk!
Awesome song! Bass player is Larry Graham, you can see him play sometime with Prince or Maceo Parker.. very good musicans, like many from the 70's area.
Betty's funk is deep!
this is going straight to the 70's playlist

This is from an era when artists could be individuals...before record companies only wanted clones of Beyonce, Chirs Brown and whatever aluminum foiled-tooth rapper is popular this week. There is only ONE Betty Davis, and she's one of the best.
Rest in peace 🕊️. A legend.
This song will always rock - enough enough enough
Incredible!
Larry Graham doesn't play bass. He is bass. His voice, his instrument. Everything is about the bottom.
I wonder... if anyone would convince Betty to go on stage again, would we just be disappointed (who knows how she looks at 66) or would she handle it? She was a Badass Lady! R.I.P. ❤🌹
She's sooooo cool!
Almost no funk reached Sweden in those days. Recent years I have discovered a lot of great 70's funk that never came near the swedish charts - including Betty Davis.
this song goes soooooooo hard!!!!!!
You can name all of the freakiest women in Hip Hop...and I'll still choose Betty Davis
Me too
Me three. If you could travel to the past, I know where I would go.
This ps awsome, why the hell didnt this song become popular in Sweden :)
This is why they call it FUN(k) :) Heavy groove and great lyrics.

This song brings back memories.
Just finding her from watching a movie but I love music of all kinds.

That bassline soiled my baby's diaper.
That's Larry Graham on the bass.
I seen him live and direct, legit son
Bass line can kill...👁️✨🔆
My favorite poet. Then Lou Reed.
I've been looking for this album. Betty Davis was one bad chick. Waaaaay ahead of her time!! Wonder where she is now?
Hey Guys,
I have been a Betty Davis fan since the early 90's when her albums first resurfaced. Coming from Australia I'd never heard anything like her sound and her voice. She infused me and my life from the first listening.

She has that rough edgy voice like Joplin
Betty got lyrics for ya. I would be surprised if Prince didn't get some inspiration from Ms. Davis.
Queen we will miss you
I'm hooked. It's official, I'm a fan! Shiddd!!
Spunky baseline! In da groove!
The best, forever!
The real queen!!!
Betty come back !!
Love this song
Gotta love Larry Graham
wavepirate non
DAYUM!! THAT'S FUNKY, BAYBEH!!!
listening to this makes me think today's music has gone backwards.
Betty never fails to wow me. I was listening to Miles' 'A Tribute to Jack Johnson' and somehow thought of Betty because she was the muse behind Bitches Brew, which Miles nearly called Witches Brew
Every man that has played the field has had at least one chick like the one in this song.
pete sears played here on acoustic piano. he's still a realy cool dude, he plays both bass and keys
R.I.P. BETTY DAVIS
I'm brought here by This American Life - don't normally listen to that show, but it was on the radio....and her voice is d(ŐдŐ๑)
