  • A guided tour of the very rare Cup version of the already superb new Exige S. It's 66kgs lighter than standard and has no sound deadening. The old 'race car for the road' cliche is actually true for once. This car complies with FIA race regs and could be raced straight out of the box. But extra road noise aside, it's still quite civilised, ride is firm but not harsh. The car's responses are clean and crisp but never twitchy or aggressive. Negatives? A few minor issues but it seems a bit picky in the extreme, like looking for faults in Megan Fox. I'm sure there are some but seriously - reality check! - it's Megan Fox! Get over yourself! Maybe Kate Beckinsale is more like it - compact, British, kicks ass and looks amazing in plastic.
I digress. The car is amazing. I think the Government should stop dicking about in Afganistan and give the money to Lotus so we can all have one.
Much more to come, including a quick blast in an 800bhp Ford GT! I shit you not!
    Cheers
    DrP

Thanks Gohard, did you see the V6 Cup track videos I posted? One wet session at the Silverstone GP following another V6 Cup the other was a dry session comparison with the Nissan GTR. I'd love to do a comparison with the GT3 too one day, maybe I'll get in touch when I bring the car to the Nurburgring!

Hi Sergio, no problems with the front splitter yet. It's the same as the regular Exige V6. The full aero kit on the V6 CupR has a bigger front splitter (to match the bigger rear wing) which might cause more problems on ramps and the like but the standard splitter hasn't been touched so far in 1700 miles.
    cheers!

2200 miles now and still no contact with the front splitter, I've been over some speed humps too.

Does this newer style of lotus have anything in the front? I thinknthe older exiges had a space up there for a spare or engine fluids like the nsx (cant remember). The entire internet seems to be completely stupid on this question because no one seems to be able to answer the simple question.

Sorry, only just seen this. No, there's no storage space in the nose in any Exige. There is a panel as you'll see in part 2 that lifts to give you access to the brake fluid reservoir and in the case of a V6 Cup - the adjustment for the front dampers. The rear storage is better than you might think though.

I'm currently considering an exige. Would you take the V6 Cup over the newer 350 Sports?

dair919 tough call, Cup cars are a bit more special being built in limited numbers by Lotus Motorsport and perhaps a shade better on track as a result. Adjustable suspension is a probably the biggest advantage. Cup is ultimately a bit more raw without sound deadening. I think the 350 could be speccd without I don’t think anyone did, most have stereos which require it. Some of the later Cups also had stereos and sound deadening too. 350 is a fantastic compromise between road and track use. Rawness of the Cup makes it more exciting on the road in small doses but I used to wear earplugs for longer trips. If the plan is mainly tradckdays I’d go Cup, if planning both road trips and tracks I’d probably go 350.

I'm sure its a great car but the price is ridiculous, I'd have a used BMW M5 over this any day.
