    I absolutely love dresses. Skirts and dresses are definitely for me. My grandmother never ever wore pants. She was classy dressed every day, even working in her garden. Thank you for the tips. Blessings! When i leave my house peaceful spirit, showered body, clean clothes, ironed, fresh hair, glossed lips and a smile even if I am sad. Yesssss!

    My comfort zone is a skirt or dress! Literally, they are so much more physically comfortable than trousers, and are just more “me”. I wear them year round, even on the coldest days, with tights (or thigh-highs) and knee-high boots. I get those “why are you so dressed up?” questions from strangers, but the people close to me are just used to how I dress.

    I fully agree with finding your words. But what has helped me the most is then defining how each is embodied in my clothes. For example, one of my words is optimistic which I embody by having color in my wardrobe like clear pinks, yellows, reds, and greens. This helps me focus on what I truly like!

    I really believe classic style is a great foundation. You can easily take classic pieces and add “trendy” pieces to them. Or just keep it simple with all classic items in an outfit. You really can’t go wrong with classic style (in my opinion).

  • @kristiLB93
    @kristiLB93 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    I like to take ques from style icons past and present that have remained classic. Say a designer like Ralph Lauren - his designs have stood the test of time and they are the very definition of timeless and elegant. I love to analyze what it is that makes the Dutchess of Cambridge so elegant and timeless. I'm slowly and mindfully rebuilding a small wardrobe with key pieces and then filling in around those pieces. I think you could even do a video on curating one's makeup collection to go along with this theme!

    I loved this video. I’m still defining my style, but recently after watching one of your videos I purchased this blouse from Anthropologie that I’ve had on my wishlist for years, but felt was too fancy. I wore it this week on errands with my daughter and felt so put together. So thanks for giving me the courage to wear something other than a tee. 😄

    Jennifer…you are in my brain…..frightening thought for you! You literally described my struggle with dresses. No One and I repeat No One in my group of mature women wears dresses. Ever…. between you and Nikki I am really trying to dress more feminine and I would like to start wearing dresses again. But i don’t have the nerve. I wore a skirt and sweater to our Bible Study one week this winter and everyone was so shocked and of course commented on their surprise . I was a little crushed. No one said you look great.. they just made comments about why I was wearing a skirt😟 i was so uncomfortable. I spent my entire nursing career in scrubs in the ER. When I retired I was clean and neat pants and a top, and not very feminine. Now I have made progress..I wear earrings and minimum makeup daily. My hair looks nice. But clothes. Ugh … Doesn’t this sound like I am sitting on a psychiatrist couch?🤣

    • @lolgriffin3243
      @lolgriffin3243 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I think maybe you need to just decide what YOU want to do. Do you want to wear dresses? Then do it! Forget the others, maybe you'll end up inspiring them!

    • @anwa6169
      @anwa6169 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think you did something great. Yes, I know that feeling, I went to an outing and was the only one wearing a dress and a hat. People stared hahaha and also commented, but I cannot remember WHAT they said, because it is what I wanted to do and what felt right for me. Also in my experience, people will copy whatever stands out, the good and the bad. Like little children... so ignore that and just do what you want to do and feel is correct for you. Greetings from Europe. P.s. when I am in town and I see a woman who has taken the time and put in the effort and wears a dress or just beautiful clothes/outfit, it makes my day a bit better. You might be that bright spot in someones day, without ever knowing.

      You have to decide if you want to wear dresses or
      skirts. I'm a retired OR nurse and after I retired I started wearing dresses ALL the time. Over the years, I've noticed my friends who don't wear dresses actually started dressing better..nice pants and a top..❤

    I notice you have several white or very light shirts and dresses and I was wondering how you keep them fresh and clean over time. I'm talking in particular about under-arm stains from sweating and deodorant. I find I avoid light-colored shirts because of this, but I would really like to wear them if they wouldn't yellow. Thanks!

    Hi Jennifer,
    I know that this is an older video, and that you may not see this, and that’s okay! I have been following you for years, and I am currently in a season of major change. I am still nursing my son, and will soon be attempting to have another baby. The 10 item wardrobe was fantastic while I was pregnant, but as you know, our bodies are ever changing even when nursing! So I am still figuring out my style now that I am a mom to a 13 month old!

    I'm still trying to define my true style. I love flowy, feminine dresses with vintage/cottagecore elements but I also really like simple classic items like high waisted jeans, cashmere sweaters and blazers. I'm also in the season of small children and pregnancy/breastfeeding so I have to be very conscious of the items I put in my wardrobe.

I know you love your jumpsuits and you say you don’t care what people think, so I hope you don’t mind my good natured teasing. Diving into the language of grammar and meaning brings a whole new level of awareness! It’s incredible how being intentional suddenly opens up aspects of your personal style that previously one might be unaware of! I might revisit my keywords 🤔
    When I was young, I saw Grace Kelly and Ava Gardner in “Mogambo” and I adored their style. Then Grace Kelly’s opening outfit in “High Society” put stars in my eyes as a little girl: her khaki high-waisted chinos and matching shirt for a monochromatic look, with a silk scarf as a pop of color. Ever since then, I’ve loved a feminine, romantic, Safari-inspired style. With a bohemian twist.
    I love how you describe jewelry as a “joy” in a woman’s wardrobe!

    I like the idea of being effortlessly elegant all the time. So I only wear dresses. And I either dress them up with a blazer or dress them down with a cardigan. Sometimes I wear a sneaker or boots. But I find that since I found your channel I’ve been focusing more on what’s easy and what I gravitate towards and accepting it. I wanted to be classical but it turns out I’m really BoHo. I feel myself in print dresses in gorgeous colors.. But I love my BoHo dresses with my long black cardigans or blazers. I like the classic twist of blazers and cardigans. Every think else is simple. A gold watch and pearl earrings. Thanks for another great video!

    My absolutely favorite video is always, always, your ten item wardrobe reveal. I'm even happier that you have been gifting us a short series introducing pieces in your spring wardrobe. I do hope that you will finish with your traditional catwalk-style ten items, but continue to hope that there will be one or two more "developmental" videos before that.

    I think my favorite part about this is how we all defined words so differently. Watching your video, My first thought was that you had a very Parisian style with the boat neck tee and stripes and neutral or soft colors, and pops of color in your scarves. Your dresses had a tiny bohemian flair to me and everything was very chic and elegant.
    My style words are elegant, smart, and sophisticated. I also like ‘classic with a twist’ or ‘flair’ to try to help to describe but I’m going for.

    Hi Jennifer, thanks for this video! It’s true that we need to be intentional, not only for our style but everything! I think you embody all the words you chose! And you do look effortless! I need to be more intentional in what I wear and am definitely guilty of just putting something on in the morning!
    I help my husband at the office (where it is just him and I) and I usually wear jeans and a shirt. The other day my husband jokingly said “I think we should have a dress code that you wear a dress!😆
    I know he appreciates seeing me in a dress, so I’ll have to surprise him one day!
    Thanks for the style motivation !
    Always enjoy your videos!😊

    I love your tips and outlook. People are less intentional with their clothes, but also with their lives!! You need to have a vision of who/what you want to be...it just doesn't 'happen'!!! This spring I am trying to curate a small work wear/uniform wardrobe. I am also being very critical of what I have/own. Closet space is prime real estate and I am tired of it being full but I still feel like I have nothing to wear. Each piece has to pass the test, because I find that if there is something that niggles me about an item, I won't wear it. All my 'rejects' are being sold off, which feels good, not only creating space but giving those items another chance to shine for someone else. Happy spring to you and your family XX PS my wardrobe is 99% skirts and dresses!

    This is so HARD to define in one word. I like to be feminine, but low key. Like a dusty rose solid v-neck tee, with dark jeans, a gold necklace, and shiny sandals. Basically what you defined as neutral, basic, and classic. Elegant and style are definitely not what I go for. I do love dresses and wear them often. And florals. But either the cut or the pattern need to be simple. I “dress up” by tossing on a floral kimono or dangling earrings. I want getting dressed to be as easy as possible, but still feel intentional and put together. Maybe….
    1. Casual
    2. Tidy
    3. Basic
    4. Feminine details

    My style is classic, vintage-inspired, and (I hope) effortless! I wear a-line dresses in the fall and winter with cardigans, and flowy maxi dresses with cardigans in the spring and summer. I typically wear ankle boots in the fall and winter with those A-line dresses, and sandals and white sneakers in the spring and summer with my maxi dresses!☺️
    I love all your outfits for spring this year Jennifer! I think my favorites are the pink blouse, the green floral dress, and the pinstripe dress.☺️

But now I'm diving into getting some reds, greens, yellows..but only as Pops of color in a like bag & shoes? I do have stylish/Chic dresses like I've never had before🤔 I hadn't worn a dress in like 40 years..

    My wardrobe adjectives are effortless (I was going to say brainless because I don’t want to think when I get dressed but effortless is more chic!!), carefree, patterned and comfortable. I fell in love with Karina dresses (thanks to you!) and have 10 Cecelia style dresses for my core items for S/S and a set of 10 for F/W. Paired with a cardigan or pullover sweater completes my wardrobe. Often I will wear a pair of ankle length or capri length leggings for warmth in the winter or modesty during my activities. The Cecelia dresses have a short sleeve and mid calf length. I just grab the dress hanging on the left side of the clothes bar for the day (no thinking!!), add a sweater or not, and return it to the right side at the end of the day.

    I ordered the WP Standard leather handbag for my daughter's 29th birthday. The handbag arrived today. I had it monogramed. I am very pleased with the bag; I feel sure my daughter will love it and get lots of use out of it - her birthday is Sunday the 20th!!! Thank you so much, Jennifer, for recommending this handbag. Jennifer, our styles could not be more different, but I learn so much from your videos. Thank you for showing your PROCESS which helps me adapt it to fit my own style. My four style words are: Boho, Effortless, Fresh and Wayfaring.
    Boho - I enjoy mixing colors and patterns Effortless - same as your definition - showing or requiring little or no effort. Fresh - in the sense stylish, of reflecting current fashion. Wayfaring - I love to move my body, especially walking and hiking so my clothes have to allow for miles of walking.

    Hi Jennifer. I absolutely loved this video and find your manner so calming and inspiring. I'm based in London (UK) and my goodness - I'd be chomping at the bit to put on a dress if we had the same weather as in Southern California! I was wondering if you've ever heard of a book called The Etymologicon; A Circular Stroll through the Hidden Connections of the English Language by Mark Forsyth? Given your love of language and knowing the root meaning of words, I reckon you'd love it. You are definitely glowing at the moment by the way!

    We have many friends from Moldova, the poorest country in Europe. They say they would always dress up in Moldova to go shopping or into town. They were excited to move here and see how American women dressed.
    Needless to say the pajama pants and tee shirts were quite the disappointment. Happily they have kept their desire to dress nice, and my American friends all comment what gorgeous women they are. I know they are beautiful on the inside too.

    I appreciate what you said about planning when creating the wardrobe so day to day dressing can be effortless. I like your idea of choosing key words to help define one's style but I don't know where to begin. Would you consider doing a video on key words for different style types?

    Thinking about my words since the last video, I came up with Classic, Effortless, Elegant with a Twist. I like a little playful something thrown in! Not only the straight and more cut styles I normally associate with those words, although I believe that also depends on which country you come from. Watching your video today, I realized that you actually also like that playfulness. Which made sense since my youngest sister commented after I told her about your channel that I dress a lot like you! Big BUT: I have not been very purposeful about it and I am going to change that! 💕

    Another great video. Although I have a problem figuring out what is considered an extra, even after watching multiple videos and reading your books on it. I don’t know if others would be as interested as me to have a video on only the extras… maybe a wardrobe tour of what is considered extras!?

    I enjoyed this talk through but also really love the fashion show videos. Perhaps you can do the fashion show at the end of the season to showcase and recap your favourite outfits. That way there is less of a rush and you can also test things out before you 'reveal' the best ones that stood the test of time and style by the end of season. Just a suggestion!

    Such a lovely video with lots of amazing tips. I have a capsule wardrobe but more so the classic one I must try this 10 item one wow! I wear dresses 98 percent of time often met with " You look nice where are you going/ coming from" usually from strangers as my fam already knows this is me. So it is rare to see. I'm a homemaker so it's often just to the park with my sons, super markets or home mainly and when I respond this way the next question is "why are you so dressed up" 😆😆 Great video Jennifer!

    It’s true that when you go out in a dress/ elegant outfit, people take notice because it’s so rare nowadays!
    Last week I was taking my son to get a weekly chiropractic adjustment for his scoliosis, and there was a new secretary there. She was a young woman with blue/purple hair, and when I walked in, her eyes popped. I was wearing my long, Navy-blue wool trench coat and a Navy, wool, floppy hat, and tan wool gloves.
    “Are - Are you GOING somewhere?” She exclaimed, “Your outfit is UH-MAZING!”
    I was a little embarrassed at how much she was gushing over my outerwear, and but took note of Jennifer’s advice and smiled serenely and thanked her, and no, I wasn’t going anywhere special.
    “So this is just your usual style!?? I love it!!!!” Her enthusiasm was so endearing and made me think extra hard about how I present myself to the world! People truly pay attention!
