  • The new Aston Martin DBS 770 Ultimate is the most powerful regular production car Aston has ever produced. It's also the last of the current generation of Aston DBS models and Aston reckons it's the best handling DBS ever created too. Let's find out if that's true..

    Harry, during a visit to the factory the question was asked ‘why the doors swing upward on opening’ on all of their models. The explanation was that most vehicles are sold in North America. Over there, the kerb edges are considerably higher than European, so to prevent the door edge whacking the kerb, they are designed to swing upwards and clear the edge - clever! 👍

    • @NarcFreedom
      @NarcFreedom ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I cannot imagine parking this car on the street anywhere in the US, let alone parallel parked against a kerb with some idiot in front and behind. I would in fact advise against it. I feel like the upswing is more of an ergonomic thing. It allows you to get into the car with a little wider opening without opening the door as far.

    • @matthewp9015
      @matthewp9015 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      @@NarcFreedom you’ve never been to Beverley Hills then if you think these kinds of cars aren’t parked on the street. When I was there they had Veyrons parked outside the shops. The kerb explanation is perfectly valid as imagine opening this length of door onto the footpath if it had traditional hinges - would be impossible to not damage the underside of the door.

    Fabulous car and very enjoyable review Harry. Next time you have one of these you may find it simpler when coming out of manual mode back to Auto to simply pull the + (upchange RH paddle) and hold for a few seconds and it will automatically drop back into auto mode. No need to press the D button on the centre console. Similarly, to engage neutral when sitting stationary for a while, pull back both paddles simultaneously and hold for a moment and it will drop from manual/drive into neutral.

    Great review and objective. I really love my DBS and just enjoying a plan B after the Imola GP was cancelled. 5 days driving through Italy and France really proved the GT capability. Relaxed fast and comfortable to drive the car seems to attract positive attention that my 911 didn’t and the engine is just a gem especially out of a toll plaza. Av mpg of 24 and an average speed of 74 mph so very capable as the touring car that I hoped it would be. Not sure the 770 gives you that much more but the styling and handling sound very appealing. I get a rush each time I start the engine and just love my time behind the wheel. All in all despite the size I love my car.

    What a design!! Sensational. Yes, I admit to liking the Beolab 3 tweeters too. The 'connection'. Its importance (me as a driver) connot be over emphesized. What a dream. Its just a shame I must wake up. I hope to see you soon Harry. Bw Mike in the Forest of Blackness.

    Love ur videos Harry - best in class ! I’d still take the 812 for the thrill of driving or the Bentley if i really want a whafter. Astons cockpits are so overaged old mercedes i am astonished it does not get thrashed more.

    Great video Harry. As an owner of a previous generation Aston I really didn’t like these. Recently the local dealer arranged an open day to drive the DBS both in Volante and Coupe and wow, just wow, what a car so the Ultimate looks good. However the EU have repealed the EV cut off (UK yet to) so the idea this is the last ICE Aston seems flawed. JLR have made a similar move and I think it is a massive mistake. Our Italian and German cousins haven’t! I just hope the next generation of Aston has ICE (maybe V8 / V12 hybrid) as an option.

    Excellent review Harry 👍. The Valkyrie spec wheels definitely would be up there on my 'like' list. Pretty sure all would agree that it's a proper GT in the true sense of the word, but as you mentioned, the console is a scratch your head moment really.

    The Austin Allegro had a similar shaped steering wheel. They called it 'Quartic' I think, and remember it being the subject of criticism and mirth at the time. Yes the dashboard area as a whole is a mess in the DBS and should'nt be in a car costing so much.
