My mom was born in 1921 and grew up near the Lemp, in Soulard. She swam in that underground pool as a small child. She said they would let the neighborhood kids in. There is also a story told by the mansion next door to the Lemp mansion, the Chatillon DeMenil, that they took a geologist down in the caves to see a rock formation. He stopped at a certain spot and would not go further. He said that there was something down there, and turned around and went back. I belonged to a paranormal group and got a great EVP at the Lemp. We also got an EVP in the DeMenil, as we looked at the bricked up tunnels in the cellar. One of our guys said, "I would love to go in those tunnels." The EVP said, "They're blocked, go back." I have never gone down in the caves, except for the spook house. Fascinating video!
This is awesome! My brother in law had his wedding reception in an area by the Lemp (I don't know if it was actually in the Lemp that was a long time ago lol) and it was super cool. But staying the night there... no thank you.
Thats my old neighborhood. I grew up three blocks from Lemp Mansion. My dad used to play and run around in the caves in the 50s and 60s. He also worked across the street at Cherokee candy company. Thanks for going down there. I have always wanted to go down there. I looked at the Lemp brewery every day i went school across the street. So awesome to see it. ❤🙏
I don't know. I wasn't born until 67. Most of my family grew up in that neighborhood and is still there. My dad has passed so I only can tell what he told us growing up. But there a few books on the Cherokee and Lemp caves. I few articles on lines also. Facebook has St. Louis profiles and they have some pictures. ❤️🙏
I must say, it does look a bit imposing. Kinda gives me the feeling that I got when I seen the House from the newer House On Haunted Hill films. Oddly off-putting for sure.
I think Ghost Adventures tried to get to those caves years and years ago but they told them they could not find the keys to the door, real cool you guys could get in there. Very interesting as always.
This is one of the best videos of the Lemp Caves I've seen, from entrance through the pools to the stage to part of the Cherokee Caves. All shot well in HD so the details are crisp. Also awesome seeing high up in the silo. I can't help but feel a bit jealous, but I'm glad and thankful you two were able to film it and film it well. Keep up the good work!
I live in St.Louis & am a huge fan of the lemp brewery history & the family. I love watching you two, and I was so excited, and surprised, that you were in Saint Louis, I hope you enjoyed yourselves and got to meet some great people and see some fun places while visiting 😊 Looking forward to seeing your next adventure!
Been down there several times. Rappelled down the chute at the 17 min mark the first time. Then found access through another building. Gave many tours to locals. Wish I could go back. Even just the basements of the compound are amazing. Like out of a horror movie just like they say. Glad someone legit finally gets to document this awesome piece of St Louis history.
Another instance of Michael & Jessica going above (below in this case) and beyond to bring us the Grimmest of adventures. As always, thanks for dragging us along and Grimm for Life! 👻
That really is a beautiful building and thank goodness no one has knocked it down for “progress”. Can you imagine how it was built, brick by brick back then, and the people that worked there when it was active 😮 Amazing footage and I hope more individuals give you access to document history 🙌🏻
I had to go read the history of these caves. Very interesting. At one time they excavated the clay in the caverns and found 3,000 fossils for the natural history museum. Other facts I found. The pool was heated. The trench in the floor was there to drain excess water from the caves. Those tall shafts you looked up were ice shafts. They would dump large quantities of ice into the caverns to bring the temp down for the brewing process. Cool video. I always enjoy learning obscure history.
Great video!!! I moved to the St. Louis area in January of 2000 and have driven by Lemp I don't know how many times! Thank you so much for doing this! I've heard the stories and am thrilled to have gone on this journey with you! Very grateful! ❤

This was so cool!! I wonder if there were ever any pictures taken down in the caves when they were hosting parties or whatever was going on down there. It would be really cool to see what the swimming pool and the stage looked like back then. I love "before & after" type pictures. The lights flickering at 33:00 was totally creepy but somehow very fitting, and OMG what was up with all the flickering lights??
I had never even heard of this place, so very cool. As a truck driver, I drive through St. Louis every day going back and forth between KC and Columbus, Ohio. The caves were spooky as hell. They really put a lot of work into that place. You guys really scored a great video on this one. Nice! 👍
This was fantastic. I’m not from ST. Louis so never have heard of the Lemp brewery. This is so amazing! You guys are so lucky to have gone here! Thank you for the wonderful tour
I can say for certain that you were able to access the caves through a sewer. NOT downtown but in the vicinity of the house. My father grew up in the area and as a youngster accessed the pool underground. Just thought I would share 😊 Thank you for doing the video. Awesome to see dad’s stories!!
I’d imagine with all the rumors, family death and pressures from prohibition that they wanted to stay away from the public as much as possible. I’d probably stay recluse as well.
Sure - of course you got access. I think you guys could get access to Area 51 if you asked. You guys are amazing and this was an amazing and really interesting tour. Thank you for making this happen!

Great video! St. Louis is an incredible city with such a rich history. I can't imagine all the people it took to build the Lemp brewery. There's so many levels of interesting things to discover and discuss there. The blueprints to that place must be somewhere in the city archives. The tour guide seems like a really cool dude too.
That brewery is an architectural marvel . To be still standing after 150 years . Especially all of those bricks . Over time , the mortar in between the bricks starts to disintergrate. Usually around the 100 or so year mark . Does St.Lois have a consistent climate ? No major freeze and thaw cycles ? And below the buildings , the Lemp and Cherokee caves are strange indeed . Why were they built ? Imagine back then how hard construction methods were . What does the future hold for this property ? Is there going to be funding to bring them back? I hope so, it would be a shame to let them go . Thank you for taking us along on this journey back in time . Happy, Happy Halloween! 🎃
@@gc4644 True. But I was thinking about the extensive work that has been done on them. Especially the theater stage and swimming pool. The many 'secret' access points. Guess business was low at the brewery at the time.
Billy Lemp JR was the 'wild child' he had already blown the Lemp money years before that, building the theater and pool and having the first electric in St. Louis City. He had lavish parties and his own hooker on the side from what I could find in the history. Sounds just like Billy Busch years later, Whom Ive met,...go figure. @@iRelevant.47.system.boycott
I love the old buildings in St. Louis: The old Catholic Churches, the businesses, the flats that had either a bar or a store on the first floor, the brick roads. I can go on and on. It's like you could almost go back in time and imagine what it was like.
I love visiting St. Louis, such a cool city. This video is unreal! I was not aware of underground caves at the old Lemp brewery. Simply outstanding that you got in there! Thank you so much for sharing with the world!
This video is VERY VERY well done!! I have been in the basement, the bank vault, and several other buildings on the property. THANK YOU for the EXCELLENT footage!
You two are amazing ! I love the adventures you guys go on . I live north of KC and I have heard about the Lemp underground and seeing it blows my mind! Thank you both for such an amazing journey . Love ya both !
That was awesome guys if those caves could talk. Seeing that old machinery that was cool. I bet it was cold down there. I could not have climbed up that high I am afraid of heights for sure and I am claustrophobic. Great video guys loved it.
Absolutely awesome. Really loved this video. Like you said, it would be interesting to see old photos and read up on the history of that brewery. Thank you for showing g.
So HAPPY to have come across these two. Their adventures and lessons are amazing and come with the best delivery possible. Listening is fun.. but when you get to actually see.. man. Love your work Michael and Jessica. Thank you!

This was an awesome video Grimm Life Collective. It was amazing to see the inside of that old building and what was inside. The staircase was very cool but WOW I bet that you were wore out, I know that I would have been 😂! Been watching you for awhile and you have made some very well made videos and I have my favorites but this one is Awesome! Nicely done!
There are actually multiple caves underneath St. Louis. A lot of the Eastern Missouri area has karst formations. And the Lemp caves aren’t the only caves in The Lou that were used for beer storage and even beer halls, etc. It’s really cool that you guys got to go ahead and do that. It’s not something that many people are allowed to do.
WOW, travel programs can learn some things from you guys, your filming photography quality and way of story telling and your enthousiasme is off the charts. In all your videos. Great work guys, great work👍👍👍👍👍. 😁😉♥️👄👄👄
How innovative and smart, and just plain cool that the Lemp company used the case system like they did. I mean how cool it is to go from your house underground to work, then have a pool and the stage as well. It’s a shame it was cursed
Something’s there. You can feel it. I used to go to all of Larry’s haunted houses when younger and loved them. I went to Lemp commercial HH once - NEVER again. As in the mansion, something real is in there and the pretend haunt just amps up negativity. I’ve never gotten that feeling in any of his others, not the Darkness, not out at Screamfest (originally Silo X). Part of the brewery (near the tall stack with LEMP on it) used to have a section for Missouri Rep’s prop storage and our theatre company used to rent items out. It was a very strange experience to even go in that part of it. Props hold energy anyway so that adds to the whole weird aesthetic. There is even a strange sound to it. This is great footage, but I wouldn’t stay underground like that for anything in the world.
I’ve been hooked on watching abandon places for several years. I live in Kansas City and have visiting St. Lewis on my bucket list. Nothing will ever be able to compare to this explore. I live in Arnold, Missouri, and I've been to the Lemp mansion twice and have passed the brewery many times. It's so cool to see the inside of the brewery. I love history and this video was awesome!
That maybe was the coolest place Ive seen on youtube. Amazing how it still is relatively in good shape considering the company started in 1840. Not far from 200 years ago. Went out of business in 1920 under the Falstaff Brewing ownership more than 100 years ago. That was amazing and the tunnels blow my mind. I can't imagine people taking tours down there. Wow. Great video
I've done so much reading of the Lemp stories yrs ago.. said he also had a bowling alley down there and him n his friends had parties with prostitutes and one became pregnant for him but was born with down sdyrome and was kept in the attic of the mansion. He divorced his wife in 1909.. and 1915 remarried but ended up depression and killed himself. His brother Charles moved in the mansion with two severants and the his brother child in the attic, which he died at age of 30 , sadly was buried at the lemp cemetery with only single marker saying Lemp. And Charles ended up killing himself from certain mental issues with his dog..sad, lonely story of a family with wealth but no happiness really..thank u and Jessica for sharing this underground..it was spooky, and yet lot history..
Ive been to the Lemp mansion, the Lemp brewery, the Lemp ghost hunter tour, and its haunted house attraction. Ive always wanted to see the caves & caverns, this is awesome!! Thanks so much for all the efforts!!

Michael and Baby Ghoul, this video is one of your best so far. I've watched alot of videos on the Lemp Mansion and loved the history. I knew about the Haunted Attraction ,but never in a million years expected to see inside the caves and inside the grainery. I love old houses and buildings. Thank you so much for taking us with. Much love :)
I went down there below the caverns, around 2008/2009. We went miles under the city. There’s a natural stream of water down there. It’s ice cold, but it gets hard to breathe down there once you get so far down. It’s such a cool thing to experience. My friends band used to rehearse their band down there so some guy took us down.

It would be really cool to see what the swimming pool and the stage looked like back then. I love "before & after" type pictures. The lights flickering at 33:00 was totally creepy but somehow very fitting, and OMG what was up with all the flickering lights??
Glad you both are safe & sound. Thanks for this great Saturday night sojourn!
Just thought I would share 😊
Thank you for doing the video. Awesome to see dad’s stories!!
I remember as a teen in St. Louis that Lemp would take the cave to and from work without ever going outside.
Why?
Because he could. !!
It was warm in the winter and dry, kept them out of the weather.
I’d imagine with all the rumors, family death and pressures from prohibition that they wanted to stay away from the public as much as possible. I’d probably stay recluse as well.
How old are you?
Fantastic Video Michael and Jessica! Loved going through the caves with you!! You both never disappoint!! Loved every minute of the video!
Sure - of course you got access. I think you guys could get access to Area 51 if you asked. You guys are amazing and this was an amazing and really interesting tour. Thank you for making this happen!
Outstanding locations Grimmlifecollective. I was hooked on the lost boys and Stand by me. Keep up the great work.
I'm so glad you GriMMs made it out of there, seeing as how you had time to edit it this episode---- love your Moxy... I'm very claustrophobic, so I would NEVER try doing this expedition, so LOVE your guts to pull it off. Currentl, I'm busy, but I will venture to view this one in it's entirity. .... Be safe werever your adventures take you, and thanks, again for another fine episode..... :^)""""""""
ALL US IN STL ARE COOL😎🤙
Guess the time of Prohibition has something to do with it. Wild potential as a gigantic underground club/scene.
@@iRelevant.47.system.boycottthose caves & caverns were there looong before Prohibition was ever implemented.
@@gc4644 True. But I was thinking about the extensive work that has been done on them. Especially the theater stage and swimming pool. The many 'secret' access points. Guess business was low at the brewery at the time.
Its hot and very humid, then icy cold with more ice than snow.
You two are fearless 🩷 what an epic video! It got a little iffy when Michael stepped out on the elevator! Take care
Thank you. Trust me…the entire time I was in the Lemp tower I was a little iffy about walking
You guys stay safe because we Love you guys!
@@grimmlifecollective
You guys are the best in the world for bringing such diverse adventures. Thank you again!
That looks like so much fun to explore my goodness, i would probably get Willy’s a lot thinking something was down there
I love visiting St. Louis, such a cool city. This video is unreal! I was not aware of underground caves at the old Lemp brewery. Simply outstanding that you got in there! Thank you so much for sharing with the world!
❤ ima STL MO BORN N RAISE
Awesome! Thanks for Sharing!!! The Lemp family has such a tragic history! Had no idea about the caves!
This video is VERY VERY well done!! I have been in the basement, the bank vault, and several other buildings on the property. THANK YOU for the EXCELLENT footage!
"If for some reason all of our lights fail, there's no getting out." Yikes!
Thanks for the tour, and Happy Halloween.
Thank you!
Probably one of the most amazing and coolest videos yet. I've been watching you guys for years, and this one takes the cake. Amazing job guys, and please keep'em coming.
Awesome and informative video. Glad I have "arrived" back from the afterlife to see another video again. Happy Halloween 🎃
Even those who have passed on get some benefits I guess lol. Thank you for watching another adventure
You guys are nailing it this year! Excellent places. Thanks😊
What a Video! 📹... Michael and Jessica are the Best!!! 👻 the cave looks like the movie, The Descent 🙄...
Right? Thank you so much for watching
WOW, travel programs can learn some things from you guys, your filming photography quality and way of story telling and your enthousiasme is off the charts.
In all your videos.
Great work guys, great work👍👍👍👍👍.
😁😉♥️👄👄👄
That was nothing short of amazing. So much history to that place.Awesome video Michael and Jessica!!
How innovative and smart, and just plain cool that the Lemp company used the case system like they did. I mean how cool it is to go from your house underground to work, then have a pool and the stage as well. It’s a shame it was cursed
Too cool. Very jealous. I have seen most of the lemp complex and mansion. Love the history. Nice job. STL is so lucky to have it. 🐟💜
Never heard of this before, but I'm glad to hear of it now!
Great find and documentary guys I'm amazed at the elaborate brick and stone work that was created thanks for the find and sharing the video
Man i'm jealous iv'e explored numerous abandoned places here in England but none that massive !! Larry and the other guy were super cool to do that to
I’ve been hooked on watching abandon places for several years. I live in Kansas City and have visiting St. Lewis on my bucket list.
Nothing will ever be able to compare to this explore.
This is the first time tuning into your channel and you just won yourselves a subscriber.
A big shout out to the owners for their willingness and kindness to let us experience a big part of history in St. Lewis.
“Walking out History “. I love it! ❤
It's St Louis😊
Ima STLOUISAN
I was hoping for the actual mansion included ite video as well. But still a super awesome video :) thanks Michael & Jessica!
I live in Arnold, Missouri, and I've been to the Lemp mansion twice and have passed the brewery many times. It's so cool to see the inside of the brewery. I love history and this video was awesome!
That was awesome you guys. History oh my heaven's nothing like going through that underbelly of the Lemp building! So glad you got permission! ❤❤
Very much reminds me of crawling around the Aquadome in St. Charles back in the 90s If any OGs remember
So good to see you guys again loved the video and this one! That place gave me the creaps!
Wow. Great video
How old is the building and caves really, is the question
HEY THANKS I'M A STLOUISAN ANX IVE SEEN MANY COMMENTS ON THIS VIDEO AS THE BEST❤
Drive by the mansion everyday, really cool to see this view of it. Thanks!
Wow!! Another awesome video! Thank you Michael and Jessica for all you do. ❤
Very cool video!! The history behind all of this is fascinating along with the equipment and artifacts still in tact. Thank you for doing this video!
Ive been to the Lemp mansion, the Lemp brewery, the Lemp ghost hunter tour, and its haunted house attraction. Ive always wanted to see the caves & caverns, this is awesome!! Thanks so much for all the efforts!!

That was fascinating!! I’ve always wondered what the caves looked like. Thank you. I lived off Tholozan st in 2005-2009. I had a blast living in STL. I’m obsessed with the history
I had heard of the Lemp Mansion because I'm really in to ghost stuff but I never heard of the caves. Awesome video. ❤😊
“Walking history.” Couldn’t put it any better myself. Great video, especially up on the silos. Amazing.

Thank you for sharing that awesome experience!! It was almost like I was right there with ya guys!!
Just wanted to let you know how much you two rock! Seriously outrageous travel and never seen before attractions ❤Thanks for all you share!
This place is beautiful and it seems like a real adventure. Thx for showing
Is there any place like this over in your neck of the woods? Would be so so cool to explore !
WOOW cool I'm in STL TOO
