    After 2 years I'm back here listening to the eternal wisdom again and it's even more valuable today. I too had great hopes that humans would reach an epiphany during the worst days of the pandemic, that there would be a great awakening, that a sense of oneness would persist beyond the heartening displays of coming together during the darkest days. Well, in my small part of the world, this is not so. In fact I've seen the opposite - a distinct increase in narcissism, greed and grasping, well beyond the ordinary days of pre-pandemic. It's a dog-eat-dog world and everyone for themselves again exacerbated by the fear and uncertainty of the economic instability brought about by a war, of all things to happen after a global pandemic . My despair and heartache brought me back to this zoom event in the hope of finding hope and a way to live in a world that seems even worse than the one that went before. Namaste

    A wonderful session with both Jon and Mark so much in this I will have to listen to it again - such a great explanation of the practice of mindfulness - thank you - anyone who listens to this will come away understanding that it is not some light fluffy topic but a very challenging discipline that needs to be practised well and throughout our lives but its a tool that we always have at our disposal. It really made me think about wat it is to be human.

    What a great session by Jon Kabat-Zinn and the Action for Happiness team.
    Jon reminded us that stress is a universal experience and requires adaptation and response. It's how we respond determines the impact.
    Highly recommended - perhaps a lunch and learn? Or a safety meeting? Stress has a massive on accidents, with holidays approaching - Jon's video is very timely.

    Ok, so this is to treat the anxiety and stress, but if I still have to work and take care of a child at the same time, how do I split my attention? Attention is a limited resource and it's been proven that we can't focus on two things at the same time. So what is the practical answer? I do meditate every night but my problem doesn't disappear the next morning. The reason for the stress and anxiety is still there. The mindfulness and meditation for 30--60 min a day can't help when I have 7-8 hours of overstimulation, multi-tasking and split-tasking.

    I read his book an still can figure it out. If I live in the now all hell break loose and I forget appointments and things I have to do. Reading him is like reading something from a zen buddhist, it gave me not enough hints on how to actually do this in practice.

    • @Milkshakman
      @Milkshakman 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      What he is talking about is completely compatible with all of your appointments and chores/tasks. Just practice noticing where your attention is, over and over again. Where is your attention when you're on your way to your appointment? Where is your attention during your appointment? Where is your attention while you're doing all these things you have to do? That's really it. It's the simplest and yet most difficult thing, because the mind doesn't want it to be so simple; it wants something complicated and at some time that is definitely not right now. But that's the *entirety* of its function; it never stops. You just have to change your relationship to it.
      "I don't have time for mindfulness, I have to do xyz!!" Just look at it, and then bring your attention back to what is in front of you. Over and over again.
