Is it ? Seemed a bit flakey to me. It would have been a much nicer card if it simply said thank you. Spare us the whole stay at home mom crap. That card would have actually made me a bit alarmed about the box because it makes it sound almost like a scammer who plays to certain emotions and heart strings. The internet is a weird and wonderful place. That box probably came from an old, sweaty, cross-dressing creep of a man.

Hey Rudy, long time fan been watching your videos for about 6-7 months now enough though I don't play magic and haven't since early 2000s. I was wondering if I could make a request for a possible series idea? I've read the comments and a lot of people like myself who don't play enjoy your content and like your personality on camera. Could you do a video series on magic sets? Like pick a set explain its history what cards are good in it etc? Would allow people like to me get more into your content and understand magic more.

I remember in early 94, in the city I lived in, all you could find for MtG for like 6 months were Antiquities packs. Virgin Megastore, Model Shop, and everywhere else in the city, just Antiquities. Antiquities cards were worthless to all of us. We couldn't even get starter decks or anything for months around there. I had stacks of every possible Antiquities card, and when I got out of MtG a year or whatever later, I sold everything I had for about 200. *sigh*
Even in 1999 finding sealed boxes of ABU or the earliest expansions was a pipe dream. An urban myth- that old mom and pop shop with a couple boxes sitting on the back shelf collecting dust for years. The fact that you can find sealed boxes even today is mind blowing.
Looks like she quartered part of a blue pool noodle float to protect the corners during shipping. Actually pretty ingenious.

I totally agree with your take on sets such as antiquities; hell while watching this video I was having flashbacks from seeing so much you described as trend years ago going into card shops. I shall continue to watch, and may your taco always remain floppy.

Rudy, I do that. No matter the product I ship, I always leave a handwritten note with a joke or a memory about the card/s, maybe an anecdote or the casual "Have fun unearthing" when I sold a reanimate spell. There's room for it, people enjoy seeing the trader's a nerd as well. I sold some EMA displays a few days ago and wrote a small letter. Buyer was amazed. Sometimes it's "If we can do it, maybe we should".

Hey Rudy, what do you think about complete sets for The Dark, same with booster boxes. I have always liked the set, it has some strange cards. I personally own about 60 Sorrow's Paths.
Rudy how did you find that booster box? I have been looking for sealed booster box's of older products but they are so hard to find. I cannot find antiquities booster box sealed like that anywhere. looked on ebay right after watching this video and still didn't see anything. HOW DID YOU DO IT RUDY!!??
I had a friend who's supposedly an expert at Pokémon TCG telling me I was dumb using regular binders and Ultra Pro 9-pocket pages for my modern MTG cards complete sets collection!! And there you are using exactly that for very old vintage cards like Antiquities!! 🤣 Guess I'm good with the regular binders and Ultra Pro 9-pocket pages! As long as I store them right and avoid binder dings on cards!

As of now 18 cards cost more than 100$ which is awesome bc that's like 1/5th of the set so in 60 packs you get a ton of value

That's actually a very good argument against the existence of the Reserved List. Reprinting RL cards won't nuke the value of the original print.
It will for cards that actually see play and are very powerful, there is some price/cost that does go in favor of original prints, the price of most of these card is precisely driven by their mass market appeal, they are very powerful see play AND rare if you take one of those out of the equation you will get a massive price drop.
zxb995511 we saw that in the time of Chronicles and 4th, but we haven’t been seeing it much with later reprints. I mean, sure, a fairly major drop can happen - maybe as much as half - but not like the old days when they’d lose 90% of the value.
The price of these old cards isn’t really determined by players any more, because there effectively are no Type I players any more. And especially not new ones needing to acquire, say, a play set of Workshops.

Great video. It blows my mind that I use to have a binder full of antiquities but not all of them. Not sure whatever happened to the binder. It might still be at my parents house in the attic.

Ah man, the thank you card reminds me of buying stuff from Japan. Always used to get neat little Japanese sweets and goodies from them, along with personalized little notes thanking me, even for just buying a few Super Famicom games.
I 100 percent agree. A lot of these cards no one sees coming in EDH. I use a few different cards from antiquities in my decks and people don't understand the interactions of these cards and how broken some of them can be.

right now as I'm watching this there's so many of those cards like 8 between $100 and $200 dollars factory is $500 candelabra of tacos is $1000 and workshop is over $2000 dollars the sealed non graded packs are $250 at least this set in a year has exceeded many expectations

I have Argivian Archaeologists, Gate to Phyrexia, and so on. All the stuff that you called low to mid range from the set.
in terms of singles, a lot of those cards do have higher demand due to play value over the last 12 months. There has been a really large spike in EDH/Commander play, where a lot of these cards shine. People actually need these cards for competitive commander builds.
Coffin, Triskelion, and few of those other mid price cards do have demand from Old school 93/94 Magic format. Which is growing in popularity.
I just checked Ebay and there is an Antiquities sealed booster box on there right now for $30k. Rudy is some sort of prophet of profit :P

right now, in canada, ebay has 3 booster packs for sale. all of them are graded and they are about 322 for a psa 7.
There's a sealed booster box of Antiquities, and it's going for little over 30k, and a booster pack going for $415. There's also a empty booster box going for $199, don't know why anybody would buy a empty booster box, unless they are into collecting empty booster boxes. You got me interested when you started talking about it, and got me wondering how much it is now, almost three years since you did this video.

Currently 4.5y later the sell price for these in stores is 65k, the actual market price is probably 50k ish, crazyness.

When you go into buying old stuff, are you mainly targeting the collector market as a viable return on your investment? Because I cannot really see that these cards are things the major players market would be interested in as they are mainly focused on the newest sets. If so, are the inflated values of old cards truly caused by scarcity or just the fact that card dealers manipulate prices to ensure they recoup the money they put into old cards?

Wait, so we want our tacos to be floppy? I'm still confused to as if a floppy taco is a good or bad thing. I went to a mexican place that opened up recently, and the taco was very floppy, and it was a miserable experience.

As we close in closer to the 25th anniversary of Magic, a lot of older cards prices are beginning to shift upwards look at freaking original duels, yes they may not come into play tapped like our newer duals and like the BFZ duals they identify as both a let's say plains and forest, so you can fetch them and also are affected in ways such as if your canopy vista is out and you opponent plays flashfires it destroys vista as well.
I was more impressed with the PoE cloth! Love that game - They sent me a signed cloth and a non signed cloth. Love the box as well

Gate to Phyrexia is the only (mono) black card that can repeatedly destroy artifacts. It has value due to it being the only card in that color to do that thing.

I honestly believe the inflation in mtg cards happened because the kids that played magic when it came out are now doctors/lawyers/have money. Investors are in now.. but Eventually though those people will get old and the newer fans wont carry it like the o.g’s

the prices you speculate are you adjusting for inflation?
not rudy, and 2y later but: adjusting for inflation is unnecessary if you are comparing across asset classes as you just compare expected return/time. these are speculative investments in collectables and his price targets should be considered in that light (risky). today you could probably pick the featured booster from someone @20-25k but i won't think of selling under 30k (currently ebay has one up for 30k from a low feedback seller that has sold similar product no problem on the site). when this video was made, Dave and Adam's card world was taking offers on behalf of a seller for an arabian nights booster box. that seller rejected overs exceeding 45k. today that box sells for 100k a 2y tbill offeres 2.43 return so that booster beat the 47+k safe play to "beat" inflation. stocks s&p 500 returned 12.15 over 2y turning 45k into 56.5+k. the arabian nights owner earned better than 49% in the same period.
now, what's more likely: more companies in the s&p 500 loses market cap for two years, the mtg market cools down over two years or the US goes bankrupt in two years and place your bets. if you assess risk properly and don't have to pay too much in the way of fees to processing agents, your interest in economics becomes your economic gain ;)
I had a lot of isngles, and now have a decent amount of older cards like antiquities, arabian nights, the dark, legends. Oh for the glory days when I coulda bought a black lotus for 15 dollars in the comic store roflol. C'est la vie, non?

My mother found half a box of Mercadian Masks in my old stuff once. I can see that happening with a full box of Antiques as well. Her brother might have bought that thing for $30 in 1995 and forgot about it.
