  • Here's an awesome radio cassette from JVC! It's a rare RC-646LB, and I paid too much because the owner was adamant that it was working perfectly. I just knew that it would need a teardown, service and deep clean, but she would not accept it! So anyway, I bought it, and guess what - it needed that teardown, deep clean and a service :)
I hope you enjoy the video. It was a fun unit to work on, and I hope it brings a smile to your face too.
Please subscribe and hit the bell for more cool old stuff, and thanks for watching!

Just seeing these takes me back to my high school 🏫 years!! I think I need to hit a few thrift stores for these retro radios 📻!! As if "Back To The Future", I'd like 👍 one of these to sit by my bedside 🛌 again!! There's no such fun as going back to the "Blast From The Past!! Tip, if ya don't want to lose your screws while working inside of one of these, just keep them on a speaker magnet. Just DON'T accidentally puncture the speaker cone. This happens all too often among radio 📻 restorers. Just subbed to your TH-cam channel!! Your friend, Jeff!!

      Hi Jeff,
Thanks so much for your support and for taking the time to comment. Always great to hear from a fan of the old tech!
Go check out those thrift stores and hopefully you'll find a fun project to get up and runny for your bedside!
Do please check out some of my other videos - I cover old games, Walkmans, all sorts - so I hope you enjoy it 😀
      Thanks again,
      D

Good pieces of DIY info - I still have my JVC RC545LB bought new from the NAAFI in the early 80s - not used now but a good doable project - I will have to do a little trouble shooting on the battery operation and tape auto stop, I seem to remember.

The 545s are one of my favourites, and will definitely be worth giving a bit of TLC. I've recorded a full length service video on one, which will be released over the summer - so please stay tuned! Thanks for watching.

@@retro_restos I was born in 1972 and had a few boomboxes and ghetto blasters when I was growing up going through my break dancing stage from watching the movies breaking and wearing of the ever popular parachute pants that Michael Jackson made famous. After nearly 34 years my last boombox was a small Sony with a digital tuner something new for the 1990’s back in 1990. I recently purchased again after 34 years a new in box Bumpboxx Flare 8 with U of A branding all over it for $200. My daughter will be going to rival university ASU next school year so I just took it apart and covered it in sweet black carbon fiber wrap. I’m loving this stereo and it is a stereo because it has an FM radio as well as Bluetooth. I love it and wish I could own what I wanted back in the day a Lasonic TRC931 but can’t afford one.

Superbe work!! In Argentina you can buy a lot like these from 5 to 30 US dollars. We earn 150 a month so they are not cheap. I serviced some... people dump them if they are not sold in days. Cheers!!!

Thanks for watching! They are extremely rare in the UK. In fact, I'm not aware of a single one for sale. And clean ones are worth the equivalent of $300-400USD if they ever come up for sale. So few survived through time once CDs came out I guess. It's just great to give them a new lease of life 😀👍📻

I have a 1965 JVC RC 8#8 JWE in parts for sale on Ebay and Reverb. All parts and screws. If you think you can put it together there's money to be made.
