    I love the fill job on that neck pickup! Could you eventually show how to add veneer to a guitar?

    I just put a push-push single vol pot in m custom guitar, which switches between a very high output bridge and a hotrail in the neck where the coils are connected in parallel (gives you a hot noisless singlecoil sound). I like hotrails in the neck placed very close to the neck so it does not create a visual barrier for my picking, I do not hit neck pickups with my pick, but somehow it is disturbing to me to have a pickup in my picking territory, that is why no middle pickup for me.

    Guitar aside, looks like it's time for a new bandsaw blade. Lol. Those burn marks on the plug are from a blade going dull. It's still sharp enough to cut but dull enough to slow down and cause friction burns. Not trying to be a backseat maker, just want to add an explanation in case anyone was curious :D

    I have a 91 Charvel Predator that has a Duncan Invader humbucker and a Jackson single coil w/ a single volume knob and a 3-way. It's my favorite set up.

    I absolutely need a neck pickup and always remove the tone knob on my guitars. I bought furniture screw end caps to plug the hole where the knob used to be. I also relocate the vol knob to the tone pot so its out of the way for quick pickup changes!

    My Christian Andreu Signature Jackson Rhoads only has the bridge pickup and it’s killer. Only has the volume knob too.
    Simple barebones guitar.
    That being said, the rest of my guitars have neck pickups too.
    I love em all

    I've seen another method for creating crackle-like textures, using a plastic bag to "dab" the paint while still wet. This would look good on one of your projects.

    I have the ESP black metal ( 1 pickup)
    I have a Jackson Rhodes USA custom (1 pickup)
    I removed the bridge pickup in my Schecter hellraiser
    I rebuilt my Jackson Kelly, filled in the bridge cavity, ( 1 pickup)
    And in the process of building a Gibson explorer clone kit, and yes, filled in the bridge cavity for only 1 pickup.

    Awesome paint job!!! Might be the best so far. I just had one come out great and it is my favorite paint job now. Sometimes you get lucky, and sometimes you have to re-do it because the concept did not work out. I like single pickup guitars, but don't own one. I like the sound of the middle position too much. Using a Duncan George Lynch with a Pre-amp / Duncan BMP-1 is one of my favorite setups. Match with a Duncan SDL-1N - Neck pickup. Sounds amazing. You can get pinch harmonics in really good spots when using both together. And the single size neck pickup gives you more real estate on body for the paint job. Rock On Mark!!!

    Concerning having just the bridge pickup and a single volume knob: While I do mostly use a single humbucker in the bridge position, I do sometimes use the neck pickup for either clean tones or if I'm playing on the first three strings past the 12th fret so I don't hurt my ears. As for the Tone knob, I don't really use it unless the pickups in the guitar have the "coil-split" feature, although it'd be nice if that was just a single toggle switch instead. Thank you so much for the content. Guitar's looking KILLER! Keep up the excellent work, sir!

    Single pickup and volume all the way for me. I play metal and hardly ever use a neck pickup. Plus, I prefer the look - hot rodded and simple.

  • @countrygrandpa
    @countrygrandpa 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Simplicity for metal and rock has always been the way I go. I like a humbucker with a coil split that's all I need. And of course a Floyd. Love your channel and that's a great guitar build. Glad the explorer deal worked out for you

  • @GarryParker
    @GarryParker 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    What would be cool is a volume knob with a built in killswitch on the top.

  • @1337million
    @1337million 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    6:55 I have one guitar with two hums and one volume + switch. I find myself missing the tone knob actually, even if it's rarely used. My old Epiphones, a Flying V and an Explorer, are perfect for me. Three-way toggle, two volumes and a master tone. I can roll off the neck pickup volume and basically have a killswitch. Or if I just turn the volume down a little the neck pickup can serve as a clean channel in a pinch if there's not too much gain! The tone knob does see some use for solos or clean rhythms because sometimes you just have to... tone it down!

  • @JROfDoom
    @JROfDoom 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    You could have slapped an ESP logo on that and I would absolutely believe it came out of their custom shop.

  • @jesseparrish9198

    Great result here, good work. I would make only one recommendation: polishing the frets, I polished the frets on my guitar a couple months ago and I used a dremel with felt wheel and some flitz polish. They came out looking like mirrors and will now be the only way I finish off frets that need some life breathed into them. Strings move effortlessly over them.

    a drumell would make that front polish in a hell of a lot easier than going different grits of sandpaper I mean most dremels even come with a polishing compound for aluminum or stainless steel you need to get a drumell is save you so much time and the other things that you can do with it is just a bonus but it'll guarantee making your fret polishing so much simpler it probably pay for itself in the build that you're doing so you can just add that in as part of the cost and get yourself a free tool but even if you have to buy it they're not that expensive anyways love your videos you take care and have a great day

    That is truly badass! That finish is sick! What is the pre amp you installed?!?! I have a Sterling JP160 with the push/push pre amp and want to install something similar on other guitars I own, but everything I have run across is hardwired to a rotory switch or toggle switch. Keep up the great work man.

  • @domoniquebrooks816

    I like multiple pickups for a variety of tones, but I've always found the traditional tone knob to be useless. Recently, I've installed a circuit that boosts/cuts mids in its place and so far its great.

    Love this one! Talking about the single humbucker/single volume, no tone is actually what I prefer. I don’t use a neck pickup much. I prefer hard tail like TOM or string through, just personal preference, not a huge Floyd fan. Great job man!

    Tone knobs can be cool - a lot of hollowbodys can go from more twangy blues to chilled out jazz with them, but so many tone knobs have a "great sound and intended purpose" side and a "washed out" side on them. It's a little frustrating because it's a cool idea in concept, but more often than not they just don't get enough use to justify them.

  • @BaldPerspective
    @BaldPerspective 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Very nice. I don't mind one pickup. It's like what EVH said--you're able to dig into the strings more without that neck pickup in the way & you can get harmonics from that that you can't get from a guitar with a neck pickup. Although, I really like the tone knob; I don't use it all the time, but it's something I like to fidget with more than most homies. Also, anyone know of any crackle paints that aren't black or white?

    Man I have a few guitars, lately I've been using just the volume knob, and a have a guitar with no knobs at all, just the Bridge straight to the jack! I still need the tone knob in some guitars, but in general I prefer to have both pickups, just because it looks nice, but I don't use the neck pickup most of the time.

    • @davidblake9079
      @davidblake9079 2 ปีที่แล้ว
