Installing a 12k lbs winch to my garage floor

  • As somebody who's working on cars that sometimes are not operational, pushing one up the driveway, and into the garage, onto the four post car lift can be a bit of a challenge. Installing a Harbor Freight 12,000 lb Badland winch to the floor of my garage made the most sense as a workaround from grabbing neighbors to help me push a dead vehicle up the driveway and into the garage.
At first I was going to attach the winch to my four posts BendPak, but after some reflection that seemed like something that could make the lift unstable due to pressure horizontally, when the lift was designed for vertical pressure.
After doing a little thinking and research, it made the most sense to bolt a hitch receiver to the garage floor, which allows me to attach the winch plate to the floor when necessary, and store out of the way when not in use.
Hope you guys enjoy the videos, feel free to leave comments and questions

That will make life a little easier on occasion. I just ordered a winch to mount in my garage floor. Hopefully I'll get that done during Christmas.

I have a D Anchor rated at 4000 lbs and have two 2.5" deep bolts torque at 25lbs pounds of torque according too the instructions. I use a 4000lb manual winch. I use this setup with no issues when i have too use it, which it not too often but a life saver when i have too. At what torque was the bolts tight down...if there over torque 35lbs they lose there grip... supposedly?

I also use mine on a limited basis, but it's a great addition when needed. Since this video, I added a D ring welded to a plate bolted next to the hitch receiver. This is in conjunction with a snatch block to reduce load stress, and double my pull rating

      Pics, videos of updates?
Also list parts to mount on winch to floor. I see Receiver hitch and 3/8 bolts, but what about the mount attached to winch?

Nice video! Was wondering what weight the step bumper receiver you used was rated for. Thanks

Nice! Any update planned for centering the cable while it’s pulling?

One of the things I did was have a local metal fabricator weld a 15k MBS D ring on an 8" x 8" x 1/4" steel plate. This will help add an anchor point, spread the pulling load, and double my pulling power. Using this with a snatch block on a small cross chain on the vehicle's tow points will help keep the cable reeling in even.
